I currently have 1h 16min 17s of 'flying time' spread over 24 'flights', almost all in the default C172, which corresponds roughly to the number of updates to the sim, the nvidia drivers, DLSS and various FPS managers. I just like to check that they haven't broken anything - that I'm still getting an impressive 9-10 fps in free flight, and that it doesn't fall below 3-4 on finals even with graphics dialed right up to 'minecraft' level. So absolutely, I've got nothing to lose and 50GB of HD space to gain if it's still the pre-alpha bill of goods I'm fairly confident by now that it will be. If it isn't at least useable by the full release of SU2 it's gone, and having been with the franchise since FS2 I will NEVER buy another product (other than Windows) that either Microsoft or Asobo are associated with.

The awful fps drops I've been getting in 2024 depending on which way I look in VR have been solved by setting fauna to 'Off'. I'm happy to try 2024 again now!

Is this the issue with crackling audio, coupled with cpu spikes to 100% for a few seconds?

@@gervanwilliams1409 I think it's different. I got huge swings in VR FPS depending on which direction I looked in (eg look left get 50 fps, look right get 20 fps), and this solved it.

I FINALLY agree with you Steve. VR is a mess. And I don't have much hope. Jorg needs to take this on personally because Martial is not going to do that. He sees his future in taking on the rest of the mess, not VR. It's been almost 4 years of broken promises as it relates to VR. They just renamed it as a platform while doing nothing. I read where people do not even watch their blog anymore because of all the hot air. But MS has collected 150-200 million dollars from VR users alone. So the time has came to hire an outside firm to fix it right. It appears that Asobe is not going to do that while Martial is in charge. He now even dodges questions as he did in this blog. And Jorg had to later "walk it back". That has to end. FYI - My VR rig generally works on 2020 (though limited).. On 2024 (which I just loaded) is a series of total reboot crashes just to get out of the locked up sim. And the functionality is even worse when it does run. Not only does it crash at "recenter" (sometimes) but it will not exit VR also causing a total crash to desktop. So all you fanboys, don't go telling me i don't have problems. Pimax Crystal (full) & 4090 & TotL Intel CPU. It is a high-end rig. I also have 40 years of computer Moxy. The time has come to stop pitching softballs.

Has nothing to do with Fanboy when I say it works pretty well in VR for me (RTX4080S and 7800X3D with Quest 3). Rockstable >45fps @90Hz, plays smoothly. Crashes do appear but very rarely. Yes, when closing the sim while in VR mode it can crash. Just end VR mode before closing the app, that's it. I don't want to defend MS, the Sim definitely has annoying problems in VR, mostly with the user interface (EDS, tool bar), annoying lighting effects on the cockpit windscreen and all kinds of other minor glitches. And of course the broken campaign. The sim definitely needs a lot of fixes, fully agree. And the release state of this Sim was an absolute cheek. But nevertheless it's (for me) already a very nice experience now and (in my opionion) already better than MFS2020. It cost me 1-2 days to find new optimal settings, but then it ran smoother than MFS2020 with nicer visuals. By the way, crashes can also appear with certain settings in the nVidia driver. Not saying that this is your problem, but some people are fiddling too much with all kind of settings in the driver and other tools, overclocking their system etc. and then wondering why everything gets unstable. Sometimes a fresh Windows installation with everything back to default is just the best solution.

@ Users spent 150 to 200 MILLION dollars for a sim they were told "VR users will be pleased". And that did not happen... yet again. It is time for people like you to quit pitching softballs. VR was neither fixed or completed and yet they took our money, a lot of it. Asobo can't or won't make it right and the time has come for Jorg to take his managerial control. I personally think he already knows that. He would NOT have "walked it back" if he was not thinking that. AND HE DID WALK IT BACK. I think he was telling Asobo, I WILL take action if you don't. No menu bar. Come on. Nobody tested a damned thing. Quit being so nice. They have your money too. With 17000 known bugs it may be time for some outside help for Martial who has put it at the bottom of his list again.

Wow, very kind words indeed. When you have to use a game and constantly ask if its a bug, me or my rig that causes this issue it's an easy answer, do not use 2024. I feel 70% of the time its the sim (MS/Asobo). Ill continue to milk 2020 and my G2 to the end, all though this is getting tough, LOL. 9900k, z390 MB and RTX 2080 super. OMG it should be a great time to upgrade, but..........What's a gamer to do? Thanks for the video.

Do you use Map Enhancer? I had the same issue, with 2 unsuccessful reinstalls, then found that Map Enhancer had edited the 'hosts' file in C:/WIndows/System32/drivers/etc. I was getting the full load screen bar (very slowly) but never got to the world map screen - apparently the hosts file had changed the IP I was trying to stream the scenery from. You should be able to search for a fresh hosts file (it'll be practically empty, that's normal), obviously backup the existing one though in case that isn't it. Good luck, whatever's causing it.

@ Hi, narrr I did you the map enchanter awhile back... and yes I did check my Host file.. :-) the main screen comes up, looks ok the CTD... looked at the logs, nothing in there either... Might delete both, install 2020, then 2024 and see how I go... but thanks for the suggestion!

i have top pc with a rtx 4080S and a quest 3 and want to upgrade either to an rtx 4090/5090 or a pimax crystal lite. witch updade makes more sense in your opinion? cant do both..

Depends on what you want more. Are you happy with the GPU, and want a higher resolution headset? Get the Pimax Crystal Light. Are you happy with the Quest 3, but want more FPS/Higher Settings? Get the 5090. Personally, i wouldn’t do either. Save your money or get a really nice monitor or get a Katwalk C2, or Full Body Tracking + bHaptics. But i don’t know what genres you play. If this is the primary game you use VR for then only getting the RTX 5090 makes sense. If you play other titles like Half Life Alyx, or Skyrim VR, then i’d get a Treadmill.

The one thing I wish Asobo / MS would adopt would be something like Steam's "Early Access" flag, if you see this, then you know it's a beta and early days of the title so don't expect it to be perfect until it comes out of "Early Access". In Example, AC Evo is now in early access and yes, it is no where near being perfect but it is in "Early Access" and was at a discount price at launch to reflect the "Early Access" This will be a great title once they get it where it needs to be, just like MSFS 2024 will be, but no one knows when that will be since it's not in "Early Access", AC Evo will be out of beta when it's out of "Early Access" and Version 1.0 is released. Just my random thoughts. 🤷‍♂

I already have over 180 flight hours in 2024 and have no regrets. What I did in 2020 I can also do in 2024 and the career mode is a lot of fun despite all the bugs

For GA and VFR 2024 is far more beautiful !!but 2020 Has better performance that’s true. For airliners pilots stick to 2020

2020 is not snappier for me. Pauses about 1 or 2 seconds every minute or two. And my PCL headset stops tracking and must be reset by my poking a toggle on my Warthog. This hardly ever happens in 2024. I gave up trying to cure 2020 VR of lags. Also the 2020 GA default planes do not handle on the ground or in the air anywhere near as nice as they do in 2024. 2024 has more mouse cursor disorder and the overhead bar hardly ever pops up. I can't click on things and make them work on the EFB screen. But these are small issues given the greater stability of 2024.

Good to know, some folks on my Discord and Facebook have said they've noticed better stability and smoother fps. Maybe a placebo effect!
