Jingles, you kinda messed up the guy's name. - Hans - is just his clan or whatever, his name is Heartbreak One, which is an Ace Combat reference. Not a big deal of course, but if this guy's got that as his handle, he's as big of an Ace Combat fan as I am, and I'd wager he'd be a tiny bit peeved that you were calling him by his clan tag and not his name.

Hey Jingles, awesome video, thanks for that. About IL-28, my Godfather was military technician and worked as part of ground crew on one of AFB in Poland. He had alot of stories about this aircraft, as "our firends" from the east sometimes flew squadron of IL-28s to his AFB. First of all, bombsight was copy of Norden bombsight, very good copy. Where russians could get this bombsight you ask. Well, as you are aware USA used Russian airfields for bombing raids. From one of those airfields 3 B-17s disappeared over one night :>. Tail gunner section was also copy from B-17. Not so good though. It was very very cramped. 23mm cannons were so big that gunner could not sit straight. His both legs had to be on the left side of his cabin. You've also mentioned gunner escape hatch. It's also good one. It was opened by a lever that was placed right next to gunner legs. Once when they were "visiting" my Godfather AFB one came with gunner hatch open. Gunner was inside but nearly dead and scared so much that they had to send him to mental iliness hospital. Oh, and gunners were conscripts.

Thank you Jingles, not only for this video, but the many hours of quality entertainment you have provided. This particular video may well be my favorite out of every Jingles artwork I've seen, so far of course. It's not the funniest, it's not the most action packed and it doesn't have the most historical or educational information, but it has what I feel is the perfect balance of these three components. Plus, it's a War Thunder Air Realistic match, my personal Sunshine & Kryptonite game mode that engages me more than any Arcade style match (i.e. normal WT/WoT/WoW), while at the same time mercilessly punishing my complete lack of joystick aiming skills. P.S. Funny that last bit, I'm perfectly capable of landing a Hellcat on a carrier in a Simulator battle, but can't hit a B17 taxiing on the runway even in Realistic.

Random little fun fact for aviation enthusiasts: Heartbreak One losing the Banshee in the sun means he fell victim to one of the ten rules of the Dicta Bolka, which is THE dogfighting textbook that basically started the whole art. One of the rules stated - and it might have been the first rule, I don't remember - was to "Attack your opponent from the sun." As Jingles said you'll spot the enemy long before he spots you if you come at an attack angle that has the sun to your back. Neat little detail I noticed

The problem with the IL-28's back turret in WT is how accurat it is over any other turret, and how quickly it can turn into you. It can turn almost 90 degrees in less than a second and put a single killing round into you, while tanking 3 different planes pumping 20mm rounds into it

Funny to see the ranges in warthunder and the speed in which you close in on them, the time it takes to go 10km in a jet in warthunder is near identical to the time it takes a DD in world of warships to traverse the same distance.

Wouldn't it be better to camp-I mean wait at the enemy airfield and force the Il-28 to land? I mean, he has to land if he wants to refill bombs, and that's what I'd do. Wait at the enemy airfield.
@TheJurassicPony9 жыл бұрын
In theory, yes. However, AAA exists, and can easily kill you in RB/SB. Furthermore, many bomber pilots, especially jet bombers like the B-57, decide to climb to space rather than land, as they know landing spells death. This is usually only in RB though, while in SB not many people fly bombers unless it has turrets so they can gunship with it. And in AB bombs reload after a minute, so they do not need to land. So usually bombers are ignored or futilely chased if they can fly faster than a jet fighter (such as B-57's on Hokkaido, where the British meteors fly at about 2/3rds their speed) and, unless they land or choose to bail/be engaged, the game goes on for another 20 minutes of nothing. Source: I fly the meteor in War Thunder. B-57's are a nightmare.
@Thearbiter979 жыл бұрын
M'Carthy I can't say much for jet games, but from what I've done, I tend to stay high/just far enough to avoid the AAA while being able to attack the enemy airfield. And well, it works, usually the B-25/B-17/Yer-2 or whatever lands eventually. Not to mention, but doesn't the Canberra have to land eventually or it'll run out of fuel? PS: I should note though that this happens when our team has at least 1 bomb carrying plane, but yeah, even if the bomber doesn't come back, can't you just attack ground targets to force the bomber's hand?

The next stage for wargaming is clearly to group the 3 games together. Majority isolated, but some battles where you have a Hosho to take off from and you torpedo a st. Louis, or where an Iowa starts wreaking havoc with coastal bombardment, or where a tank destroyer on a cliff scores a detonation hit on the Minekaze before being struck by a dive bomber. THOSE things are what I really want to see.

+Orson in charge That would explain why things started so badly for Britain and then it all went wrong for Germany. Rumour has it the reason so many Bf109's were lost in training is Jingles had got heavily into waffles and the undercarriage just couldn't take it. He therefore became the highest scoring British Ace without firing a shot.

Jingles, just so you know, in War Thunders current form, the 23 mm gunner on the IL-28 will oneshot every time, more reliably than a german 50 mm anti air cannon... Also, the il-28 has 400 rounds for its gunner in total, but for some reason they cant run out of ammo... Also, the vampire IF FULLY UPGRADED cant go any faster than 800 kph, or it will rip, so cathcing a IL-28 by diving? Nah, not possible... Please jingles, check up a little more, when talking about jets, becasue youre giving biginners ideas that wont work in the game :( Anyway, as allways, great video, i love how you talk about some history, and some technical stuff aswell :D

Love your channels. First off, hands down Frank Whittle invented the technology in Britain and gave it to the US. Just a knit on the "decades" taken to "catch up" to British jet engine technology; I cut this from Wikipedia: "The Nene was designed and built as a result of an early 1944 Air Ministry request for an engine of 4,200 lb thrust, and an engine was schemed-out by Stanley Hooker and Adrian Lombard as the B.40. In the summer of 1944 Hooker visited the USA and discovered that General Electric already had two engine types, an axial and a centrifugal, of 4,000 lb thrust running. On returning to the UK Hooker decided to go for 5,000 lb of thrust and, working with Lombard, Pearson and Morley, a complete redesign of the B.40 resulted in the B.41,[1] later to be called the Nene."

IIRC, Britain sent jet engines to the US during the war with the exact opposite terms: that the US would not build civilian jet aircraft. There is some real controversy over how useful the British assistance was, but I think most of the complaints can be put down to poor documentation during wartime. The V2 had the same problem. After the war, Labour agreed to lift that limit for a one time payout of three million dollars. General Electric likely appreciates that.

Reminds me of flying the a-20 havoc during the early days of War Thunder. I might just return for this jet bomber.

You should really do some replays from the IL2: Cliffs of Dover Team Fusion mod. If you like the realistic games in War Thunder, you will absolutely adore the ones from this. Just check out some videos for it on KZbin, you shall not be disappointed. However I realize your plate is probably already pretty full.

British selling jet engines to Russia reminds me a little of Canada's CANDU nuclear reactors, except not quite on the same level. Essentially, a CANDU reactor is a nuclear reactor which can use unenriched Uranium, making it exceptionally cheap and easy to use, can be refuelled while in full operation, and is very safe. It also, unfortunately, creates a byproduct which can be used for nuclear weapons. In every sale of a CANDU reactor to a foreign country, Canada requires them to sign documents basically stating that the CANDU reactors will not be used for the production of nuclear weapons. We sold one to India. They immediately made nukes.
