The Object 248 was a IS-2 prototype armed with 100mm D-10 antitank gun that was a derivative of a naval gun. After the IS-1 was deemed to be insufficiently well armed for a heavy tank, they were trying to find what gun would be the best for an improved version. The two contenders were this tank and the IS-122 armed with the D-25Twhich was a modified A-19 122mm gun that was a heavily artillery piece in service in corps artillery and that was found to be efficient as an improvised AT gun during the battle of Kursk. They chose the 122mm D-25T over the D-10 because it was both able to pierce the front armor of a Panther at 2,500 meters while the later could only do so at 1,500 meters and because the 122mm HE shell had considerably more destructive power. It was very important because soviet heavy tanks were supposed to help infantry breakthrough enemy lines above any other task.

That Object 248 isn't as bad as I thought it would be. As punchy as an IS-2 with the reload of an IS-1. And it seems clear now whenever Bo is in a PE-8 the enemy is in for a real bad time... 11 kills in two clips from two bombs, that is amazing!

I think this gun can pen. the Jumbos' hull without shooting the MG port... Srumling in that T-34-100 is like those chubby kids from old cartoons, with a sailor hat, and a candy cane. Also I still question the value of this top BP reward compared to previous ones, tough it probably more useful than the Su-8 or the T-10A.
