Warcraft 3 Reforged - What The Hell Happened?

Until not too long ago, Blizzard Entertainment still had all the prestige that the developer had typically been associated with over the years. When Blizzard put out a new game, the entire industry would pause and take notice, and almost as a rule, these new games would shatter expectations and be met with rapturous critical and commercial reception.
Recent years, however, have brought a few blemishes to Blizzard's pristine record- and probably the biggest blemish of the lot is Warcraft 3: Reforged.

I almost bought reforged, for a good 10 years now blizzard had started getting a bad track record, and I'm glad I didn't buy it. I hope they fix this someday as I always wanted to see this in its full glory, new models, redesigned areas etc, I'm stil appalled that this was never finished...

I actually pre-ordered it, but as soon as the reviews came out, I contacted Blizzard demanding a refund based on that information, and because I never downloaded and used it. Customer service said at the time that they could only provide me a partial refund, as the pre-order was bundled with the BlizzCon digital pass, and that refund could only be in Blizzard store credit. I understood about the Battle pass part, but of course when it came to the refund itself I didn't take that lately, so I replied that I would be more than happy to sign a document that would exclude me from the eventual class action settlement if they were to provide me a full financial refund of the game itself. Interestingly, they suddenly had the ability to give me a refund. Not only that, but they also gave me a refund for the battle pass... who knew? They never did ask me to sign that document, though. 🤔

It wasn't until I even _hinted_ at joining an inevitable class action that they suddenly changed their tune; I didn't mention that until after 3-4 messages in the chain.

The game is now playable i think. they improved some areas and the client definitely one of them , i mostly play on old graphics and new ones arent that baaad tho but still . i think next patch will be the turning point as they added tournaments and some cool stuff

What we really wanted was only a SLEIGHT update in the model/asset details, with the same base unit models.. Not a complete rework of everything to the point it isn’t immediately recognizable as the same unit, visual unit details are actually changed, and the models/units feel different when you play with them.

I preorderd Warcraft 3 Reforged from the moment they announced it, and if they would have told me "sorry the game will be delayed" I would say "take your time and deliver an amazing game" but what I get on release was straight forward scam and this makes me really sad. I love this game so much, that I'll still buy it once they achieve a state of quality I can live with-.

Do NOT compare Warcraft 3: Reforge to Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, the first is a remaster, the latter is a remake/the 5th expansion pack. What you should compare it to is AoE2:HD, which also got mediocre review, but was given expansions that lead to a complete resurrection of the franchise and a growing E-sport scene. Given that development on title this old is very cheap and quick, there’s no reason why Blizzard couldn’t do the same, especially when they have a stronger brand name. If Activision wanted Call of Duty Money, potentially, they lost way more.

What I want to know is if the campaign and custom games are in a good state. That's what I always liked about Warcraft 3. I don't play competitive online in strategy games, I get wrecked in the first 5 minutes.

@@radicalcentrist4990 Even when you buy the reforge model, the skin will revert back to the classic skin on some maps. Some of the glitches I've experiences are in Kodo Tag and TD. Can't point out specifically since it's been a while since i played, but it involves the AI's movement pattern.

Everyone just shrugged, stuck with classic graphics(which you can still play for free), and switched to the new community made ladder, W3Champions, when Blizzard broke the old one. At this point Bliz could abandon the game completely and the custom game and ladder communities would live on uner their own support and power.

There's a lot to hate about this horrible attempt, and while the graphics themselves are not the primary offender, they also have various flaws. Some of it actually looks pretty good, but on the whole too many things look drab, washed out, and difficult to distinguish compared to the original. Like Breath of the Wild and other "cartoonish" looking games, original WC3 still looks pretty decent even today. It seems like they tried to go for a more realistic art direction for reforged, and the graphics suffered as a result. A lot of the up-close detail looks pretty nice, but as soon as you zoom out to look at a battlefield it completely lacks the punchy, pop-out-at-you style that is a MUST HAVE for controlling units on the battlefield. A large part of that is that shadow work seems pretty terrible. But also team-coloring on many units waaaaay too small.

I've been playing the campaign, it's been great up to the undead mission 3 which is very broken. I have had 6 crashes on it and after defeating sylvanus once she never respawned. Decided to take a break to have a look at custom games, there's only about 15 lobbies mostly less than half players in each. None of the games are decent either.

@@pas0003 Lots of people experience crashing yeah, apparently if you tweak some graphic settings to minimum it may not crash. But I have a 2080 super and it's a beast of a PC, don't want to compromise 🤣 I had great fun up until frozen throne, there was also two undead missions when you attack silvermoon or chase sylvanus in the woods that crashed constantly, had to save every 30 mins and load after every crash to even beat the levels. Frozen throne mission even saving that often didn't help! Just be warned if you're like me and grew up on classic WC3 or you're obsessed with the lore, this sparked my temptation to play WoW again...😅

I never played Starcraft, so I cannot compare them to each other. But the original Warcraft 3 was fun. I enjoyed the SP campaign and I was addicted to MP maps for a while. There were a ton of good ones. I can’t remember all of them as this is like 20 years ago, but Tower Defense and DoTa stand out. There was a horde mode MP map too. Where waves of enemy’s came at your fortress and you could fall back until finally your team was defending a small building. When that fell the game was over. It reminds me of the final battle in LotR The Two Towers.

Blizzard is a classic story of massively incompetent senior executives who refuse to step down and instead either blame mid-level management and entry-level hires, or just outright refuse to accept their own failures and just keep trying to move past them without fixing any of the underlying issues. Blizzard-Activision will either go under or be forced to completely reorganize by shareholders within the next 10 years.

It’s a very fun game and personally I have reforged and play custome maps and have a blast with friends we play everyday after work m-f and weekends so many different game modes that come with it is amazing and have yet to find a similar game on the scale of custom maps

I certainly never asked for re-recorded voice lines. What a waste that would be. Overhauling the UI is far more important. The UI of WCIII was designed for 4:3 screens. Just like Doom it was a giant statusbar taking up the bottom of the screen, effectively making the "game" widescreen. Leaving that same statusbar where it was in the bottom-middle of a widescreen monitor is just plain stupid. It needed to be broken up, but at the very least could have been made vertical for the left side or something.

I never played the original but got the remastered. Once I saw that I could not pause nor save offline matches against AI, I never ended up playing and wish I got the refund. As someone only grinded RPG or ORPG map with save load mechanic, the graphic of reforged is kinda mehh when comparing to some high quality makes custom maps........ Heck, they even want to claims all the custom maps makes by the community, are they really brain dead I wonder? The map makers struggle to keeps the game survives for more than 10 years, but this reforged become a finishing blow to PURGE all the left over map makers....

D2R was better compared to WC3 Reforged, but does not mean it was good, D2R still has that amazon tranny, the chinese assassin, the dindu paladin and so on, stiff as shit animation when it should have been better animated, some running and attacks look like shit. played some D2R and then abandoned it.
