Other than the spiritual aspect of the shadow, this song will always make me think of the concept of the Shadow as presented by K G Jung. That ancestral, irrational unconscious that guides us even though we never really are aware of it consciously. That is exactly what the song encompasses, the dialogue with this jungian shadow, the trial of understanding our unconscious and comunicate with it; the perfect culmination is the ending of the song - "the answers you will find within", cause they have always been there. Beautiful Wardruna, dearest Einar and Lindy Fay Hella... true masters at work.

Yep.. same.. this unites my two hobbies. Jung's psychology and Norwegian music :D and also Mythology...
@oscardelucas9942 жыл бұрын
I think the song is meant for you to face your shadow, to wrestle with an entity that knows all your deepest fears and weakness, and bring it to the light. For me it strucks a chord because the song starts in a pretty contemplative manner, where he’s alone, and then the dark figure appears. In a way that is how the shadow really manifests itself, quiet and unnoticed, and if it’s not seen it will move the strings and leave you at the mercy of your deepest unconscious desires. In the song, the man Einar represents asks the shadow for meaning, and the way forward, but gets no real answer. That is until the night falls and all is revealed in an intricate dance where your self and your unconscious shadow merge. In short, for me, it’s all about growing by integrating the aggressive element of the shadow.
@KalosAgathon2 жыл бұрын
I also thought of Carl Jung and his shadow concept when I first heard the song! Would be interesting to know if Einar reads Jung. I think Jung, Nietzsche and Black Metal (also Wardruna) have a common philosophy. At least they have similar ideas of individualism and nature.

True, a treasure he is, just as you all are. Men are tanglled in time, but for the photon, it all happened in an instant, hence those that come from eternity, to eternity they shall return, for eternity is not an option, but the nature of our existence. True, energy cannot be created nor destroyed, and things that came into existence in this reality, from Energy they came to be, that which has no beginning nor end, that Energy Eternal belongs to One ruler, His Name is יהוה, the One that eyes of men have not seen, He in Who's Hands the stars of all the galaxies are like mere dust, yet even that does not give justice to He, the Almighty, the King of Infinity of Energy through Whom all things were made. You can claim to think to know something, but on the Day of the Sun there shall be no human opinions or knowledge, for human knowledge is like wax in the presence of the Sun, and the Truth stands firm forever, for time has a beginning and an end, and the beginning is where it ends. Anyone can speak words, but Destiny is a burden to endure for some that words cannot describe.

I've been loving this song lately, perfect timing on dropping a music vid. The echo response message in the last bit is so good.
