Warhammer 40K is a decades old setting (like DnD) about galaxy at war about 38 thousand years in the future (hence Warhammer 40K, 40000 years). There are many video games that adapt some part of it. Darktide is about couple of prisoners essentially being used as Suicide Squad, Mechanicus is about the priesthood of mars acquiring cool mechanical shinies. Very different games about very different people from the same setting. Also, chaotic and dark is very much the vibe. Darktide is just four entirely disposable people (its a multiplayer team game) purging chaos cultists. And yeah there are guns and shooting, but there is also lot of meele, smashing people with warhammers and chainswords. There is also Warhammer Fantasy, which is, as name suggests, less sci-fi more fantasy setting, with its own vibes and set of videogames that adapt it.

Warhammer 40k is not a series but a franchise that has been going for over 30 years it started out as a tabletop wargame, and has also spawned a lot of video games of many different genres over the last couple of decades it is the origin of the term "grimdark", thanks to the opening text of the rulebooks, and embodies that vibe: everything sucks, everyone is at war with just about everyone else and often themselves and wanton destruction is the norm Darktide is focused on a conflict of humanity, zealots in the name of the god-emperor, and chaos cultists that worship demons, so every single mission is either set in a church, desecrated ritual site, military or industrial building - or basically any combination of the above

A quick way to define the "Warhammer 40k" and subtitles, the 40k tag is basically the universe/setting, a futuristic grimdark setting where everything is bad and there's only war. Warhammer without the 40k tag is a more fantasy past style setting. For the subtitles such as Darktide, Space Marine, Mechanicus, etc, those are the specific story point within the univese (when someone says the 40k universe, it litteraly has it's own galaxy map and everything, it's been around for a long time and the lore is pretty fleshed out by this point) Your comment though that it feels very mechanical/industrial is pretty on point to what they wanted; it's set on a industrial planet that's responsible for producing some of the highest quality metals for tanks and such for the frontlines, but also one of the people giving you field info is a techpriest, someone who has altered themself so much they're more machine then man at this point and spiritually worship a machine god. And finally, to explain what they mean by "action game", I'd say think back to Left 4 Dead style, it's a horde shooter with melee capabilities. Darktide focuses more on the melee aspect though, as like everything in the setting, ammo is sparse, and the volume of enemies running you down makes any gun you can carry just too slow to clear through enough (also they're not exactly quick to kill, Nurgle cult which is about plague/disease and that mutates them to be harder to put down). But yeah, just a few things to clear up what you had wondered throughout~

He's an Assassins Creed's 2 Composer as well as; Borderlands 2, Kane & Lynch and a much more GOOD stuff... Disposal Unit IS an assassination theme. (A boss battle basically) and what's good about this theme is; It kinda works with what happens in battle itself; - At the start of the fight boss has shields you need to take down first. (No lyrics - just music itself) - And then, when you bring shields down you got what you heard at 3:38... and it fu**s ._____________. in a best way possible. You - yourself drowning in a wave after wave of a trash-tier heretic filth, and yet you kick boss's ass harder than he would've guessed... And dont get me wrong, at hard difficulties he's quite ABLE to defend himself. If recommendations are a go: - "The Gauntlet" - Same game, same composer. Song of fighting for your life as you being caught in a trap And god damn it's even harder EDM than Disposal Unit. - "Light of the Imperium" It's.. well.. how would I put it... It's a Main Theme remix, but it's also a theme of The "Moebian 6'th" a guard's regiment that is a heretical now - Basically a "Bad-Guys of Darktide" theme :P They both are quite worthy of listening. - If anything that is absolutely MUST be heard in a Darktide, that - it's "Imperial Advance" (Main theme of guys you playing...) AND THEN "The Emperor of Mankind"... Do I even need to explain why? And just as a bonus :P If you want to FEEL (in your bones) the MOOD of this universe currently - you might as well try to hear "The Admonition" -> It kinda hints on fact that Humanity is FUC*ED, since chaos steps on it's feet, orc's bite everything they can bite, and we're surrounded by Tyranids from EVERY angle of the Deep Space (and I'm not even mentioning 5 or 6 more conflict sides), and at some point they're ALL gonna be here.. And they're know no peace, since there's only WAR. ._____. And thank god (Emperor, no doubt) you chose an Imperial Mix of Disposal Unit, there's other version without lyrics.. for some reason.

DarkTide currently is one of the best 4 player co-op experiences in existance. The gameplay, atmosphere, fight mechanics, dialoge between the player characters and the music are top notch. Spent 1400 hours so far. Game got held back by its awful itemization, crafting, FOMO shop with recycled items with more expensive bundles every time and FatShark being slow to react to player feedback. Otherwise it would be much bigger right now.

There are at least 30+ Warhammer 40k games. But in context to Mechanicus, there are a lot of factions with their own identity. Like Mechanicus features the Tech Priest of Mars. Which is a faction of humans diffrent from the Imperium of Man. Which has diffrent theme than the Orks which tends to have straight up rock and metal themes. In context to these songs, the Imperium is a religous totalitarian regime. But Darktide is more about lowlifes (by the Imperium's standards) fighting a zombie horde in a giant city on the behest of the secret police. Also it is boss music. It plays on assasination missions. Well, assasination in the vain of a witch, a giant ogre man, a gun nut, and a crazy person with a hammer run screaming at the top of their lungs, fighting through 100s of guy to get to the target.

In Warhammer, the soundtrack depends on the factions because of how different they are. This is why Mechanicus sounds like Gothic dubstep because you are playing as a cult that literally worships machines. Darktide, you play as rejects of the Imperium of Man in a hive city but with still very heavy-handed religious zealotry, so it's like church club music. I do like that, Mister Kyd managed to sneak the Skavin Fiddle from Vermintide in (find "The Skaven Come Out to Play")

Warhammer comes in two varieties. Warhammer, sometimes called Warhammer Fantasy or Age of Sigmar, which is a fantasy setting and has games like Vermintide and Total War: Warhammer. Warhammer: 40,000, or just 40K, is the distant future version of the setting (originally, they’ve diverged more over the years) with games like Mechanicus, Darktide, Rogue Trader, and Space Marine. Darktide is what’s known as a hoard shooter, where a team of around 4 players work together to shoot and/or melee their way through a hoard of enemies to complete objectives and get to safety. Mechanicus is an isometric, turn-based strategy game.

One of the best things about Darktide is the music. That music starts pumping during a big horde and you can just feel yourself get into it. so the thing about darktide is darktide is set in a thing called a hive city, think a city that's a giant spire that reaches into the atmosphere of a planet with billions of people living there, the players are fighting a war in the hive city, it's why the music is so varied in its style, you have certain places where it's like a military battle hymn, other places where it's more electronic, other places where chaos just errupts

Warhammer 40k is a very vast setting by Games Workshop. The setting has so many different things going on you can basically fit every kind of music in it and it would not be strange. Like in Mechanicus you play a group of technophile religious Zealots called "The Adeptus Mechanicus" fighting/looting an Alien faction of undead egytian themed Robots named Necrons thus the electronica mixed with churchmusic. In Darktide the players are basically condemed "criminals" tasked with purging a Hive city(a giant City/Fortress with inhabitants counting easily into the double digit of Billions) from Cultists, said Hives are often filled to the brimm with production facilitys and the cultist come at you in swarms of mindless zombies and whatnot therfore the more pumping/technoid soundtrack making sense. But you could easily find something for all othere music genres and styles. Like you could easily go with rock music or metal for the orks in the setting. You could have country music and a slow paced farming simulator on an Agri world(giant farming planets). Heck want some folky music? Fits right in on Feudal planets(basically medival planets), and if you want folk with electro combined? Do something on a knight world(also medival planets but they have noble houses with giant mechs) If you can imagine it, it could exist in warhammer 40k but it will most likely be the most evil/dark/horrible version of what you thought it to be.

Warhammer as a whole is a massive rabbit hole, the entire setting is so massive and there are so many things to Wahrammer like all the media, lore, tabletop game and then there is even Warhammer Fantasy which is the setting reimagined in a fantasy setting. Video game wise there are quite a lot of Warhammer games set in different parts of the galaxy and each games soundtrack is vastly different, though the general consensus after Mechanicus, Darktide and Rogue Trader is that the general ost vibe is dark church techno music and in Darktides case: Churchstep. I highly recommend listening to Darktides Main Theme as well as "Light of the Imperium" to get the broader picture of what Jesper Kyd was cooking here.

Warhammer 40k is the grimdark future, things are bad, nothing is going well for anyone, war is a constant. Warhammer is a fantasy setting and Warhammer 40k is the future setting. However, it is a medieval future setting where science has mostly been lost and tech priest handle all tech. The mechanicus game is about sis tech priests fighting living metal Aliens. This game however is about humans fighting demons in a hive city. Which is why there is less organ music in this game, less priests and more soldiers in a technological city that operates like modern and medieval city. Post Apocalypse is not a bad word yo use. The warp is a hell scape they travel through to move through space quicker than light since the laws of physics don't exist there.

Warhammer originally started as a tabletop fantasy-parody franchise strongly influenced by lotr; since then, it’s evolved into several different settings with similar attributes. 40k is the ‘sci-fi’ version, basically. There are many different interpretations of it because the creators essentially toss their license to whoever is willing to play around with it, resulting in a variety of different sub-settings and genres. The music they choose to use, while often sharing some aspects like chanting or organs and such, help reflect that. Mechanicus, for example, is about a bunch of tech-worshipping zealots exploring/pillaging/excavating the planet-spanning ruins of an ancient advanced civilization. As a result, a lot of the music has more overtly religious parallels, is slower, methodological, and mysterious. Darktide on the other hand, is an action shooter/hack n slasher that takes place in what basically amounts to ten versions of New York stacked directly on top of each other. It’s more grungy, punk-metal/electro-cyber-ish as a result. But as religion and its use/consequences is a major reoccurring theme across all of 40k, you can still hear the implementations of things like chanting and organ music here and there too. It’s really interesting and it shows what sort of mood the devs wanted to convey.
@windsgrace6886 ай бұрын
Darktide is described to be a "first person action game" because a significant portion of the game involves first person melee combat (swinging swords/clubs/axes/etc., blocking and dodging attacks, shoving enemies away, etc.) in addition to shooting. I haven't played in a year and a half but from what I remember I think I'd say you're doing melee combat maybe about 50% of the time, though that's mostly depending on your class (and now apparently class build). I'd hazard to guess that some classes can be in melee upwards of 90% of the time and, on the other extreme, probably only spend about 30% of the time in melee. The ranged weapons are powerful but have limited ammo and you're also often fighting swarms of weaker enemies interspersed with more powerful "elite" enemies and occasionally bosses.

I wouldn’t say it’s completely ridiculous to listen for similarities between Warhammer/40k games, but it is probably worth noting that many of these games are licensed games, based on the same property, rather than a cohesive series of games…They vary in theme, location/setting, genre of story, genre of game… The original Warhammer is a fantasy, tabletop war game, with a decent part of the hobby being collecting, assembling and painting the models, then rolling lots of dice to defeat your foes lol… Warhammer 40k is pretty similar, except they take the original game and convert it into science fiction, set in a backwards, post apocalyptic future, where another apocalypse has started lol. It’s set across a vast galaxy, with next to endless possibilities… You have farming worlds, hive cities (basically a city built on several other cities, with a population of a country… Cyberpunk dystopian…), crazy alien planets, forge worlds… Demon dimensions… Their version of faster than light travel is essentially popping in and out of hell to save on distance… Strategy games tend to be the main game type, given the origins of the franchises, but the universe works well for various genres… There are some shooters, there’s RTS, turn based strategy, at least one RPG…

"Grimdark" is the genre spawning from 40k, being alive in that universe sucks. Warhammer and Warhammer 40k are both a thing. They share some similarities with different races like High Elf - Eldar, Dark Elf - Dark Eldar, Chaos Demons being the same; but the universes are not directly connected. The Warp (like hellish magic place) and the 4 Chaos Gods exist in both. The universes are V A S T, especially 40k. Some games follow lore, some does not. Darktide is basically the 40k version of Vermintide, which are like game series Left 4 Dead. A lot of blood, a lot of action.
