Not sure if they can show up in a shooter proper. Those involve gunning down waves upon waves of enemies, and any 3rd or 1st person shooter would probably end up with you gunning down more Eldar than exist in 40k canon.

The dialogue being so awkward and formal is actually perfect, they're space marine being dryer than the sahara is a feature not a bug. The guards are a perfect mirror whereas space marine are blocks of contempt the guard experience the full spectrum of emotions. Space marine are dorks with enough emotional maturity to topple their own country because they didn't feel validated by daddy, they're stiff, formal, and have a power sword shoved up their cheeks. They're distrusting because one feels alienated from the rest of his chapter and the other one has an ego problem AND the new guy refuses to answer any question. Except Chairon. Chairon is a bro. The awkwardness is truly delightful and chairon is perfect to try and lighten the mood and disarm a conversation, always positive (for an astartes) and genuienly concerned about titus and even the guardsmen to whom he spares no praises. Chairon is our disney princess Space marines are properly sociopathic which is why they're so awkward but they still have this lingering human impulse to try and form bonds even though their lexicon is limited to insulting their ennemies and chanting their exploits

Love the game so far. Only issue I have is with how slow progression is; all colors should be unlocked from the start like they were in SM1. Im hoping there's more customization added for the Chaos marines in the future, with a Chaos PVE mode like how there was in SM1 (again)

My only complaint with the game is that I think it is dumb for a Space Marine to fight without a helmet, so I use the option to always have helmets on..... and then in every cutscene Titus and co take off their helmets, then put em back on for the gameplay. Just leave the fucking helmets on D:

For me the coolest moment was when you get dropped off on top of the spire looking out to see actual navy warpships chilling a couple of kilometres off. One cool detail I noticed is that Imurah's dialogue in the mission where he's trying to seduce the UM's to chaos changes depending upon what character you're playing as during that mission. It gives a little more backstory to Chairon and Gadriel. (Also, him imitating Titus's voice is pretty creepy.)

Space Marine 2 is precisely just simple and pleasant. It might not have the complexity in the stories, but its production, methods of sales and gameplay loop are considered minty fresh air amidst the AAAA environment. I wouldn't say it is game of the year, but damn sure it is among the top 5 or 10 this year. For 40k fan, it's no competition.

A bit to help with loading times is to make sure that you install SM2 on an SSD and not a HD. Another thing. If you have the issue where you try and launch SM2 and it doesn't and evens team says its running. It's because you need to task manager shutdown the EPic Helper program because that's what's blocking it from loading. For cut scenes freezing and Desyncing I have found setting...I can't remember the exact setting since is a month since I did it but setting the Framerate/Quality to variable to keep the game from freezing helps alot.

The story wasn't amazing or anything, but I enjoyed it. I went in with zero expectations due to Space Marine 1 having only enough story to keep the slaughtering gameplay going so getting a build-up with Gadriel's suspicions that hearkens back to Leandros', Titus realizing his poor communication was the cause of all of this suspicion, and then ending with Titus actually opening up to his squad causing them to understand him and prevent another Space Marine 1 was nice. It made that "The Codex Astartes does not support this action...but I am looking forward to it." mean just a bit more than a simple funni meme reference. Going into the final mission Gadriel and Chairon wholly trust Titus and Titus wholly trusts them in return. Again, it's nothing wildly amazing, but I enjoyed the story. IMO, Gadriel was my favorite. It helps that I just love his design, but how he goes from initially being in awe of serving under a veteran Firstborne, to coming to be suspicious of him after his new lieutenant hides information from them, digs into classified files, turns out to have been a Blackshield, and seems to know and be familiar with the forces of Chaos, and finally seeing the truth and coming to respect Titus as his leader and as a true brother. I loved the addition of Chairon being at Calth during the Heresy as it's a fun little bit of lore that your more dedicated 40k fans will understand. The game felt full of stuff like that; little lore deep cuts that hardcore fans would love, but it wouldn't confuse those new to the series. Like how that giant statue of Sanguinius is essentially the real life model for him for Horus Heresy. Really makes the game feel like a passion project by people who love 40k.

This game got me into 40k and it's just been a great experience since Everyone in the hobby has just been so nice so far, a combat patrol magazine has started so i have a decent ultramarines army starting point, this game is amazing and simple fun, everything's just been great

You are absolutely not alone on the performance issues. I don’t even record it and I still have to wait forever and have cutscenes turn into slideshows. Not to mention having to skip the opening cutscene to even play the game.

As far as warhammer channels go this is probably the most balanced review I've seen, I hope they keep the momentum and keep adding more content/quality of life improvements otherwise like you said this game will get stale for sure.

My biggest issue is “Him” being a chaplain. Calgar acknowledging the gravity of him losing Titus for a century is knocked flat by the insinuation that he earned a promotion for depriving the Ultramarines of an incredibly effective commander. While Guilliman is obviously busy, he was pretty clear on criticising the elements of the Ultramarines who worship the Codex as holy dogma. That being said, getting to see Calgar, and the (ironically) human emotions of the Marines was nice. Truly one of the best 40k games.

That you wash over the big reveal at the end is interesting. There is Leandros, who is kind of responsible for Titus suffering. Standing there as his superior as Chaplain. Sure he saves Titus, but man, as Titus I might have killed Leandros on the spot if I could in Titus stead.

Better beings then Titus, suffered worth fates, while being far less suspicious. By Imperial Standards not only was Leandros right, Titus got away extremely leniently.

For the operation mission with the ripper swarms, all they need to do is buff the pyreblaster. That will solve 99% of that problem.

As a heads up there have been fixes made for the loading times by the players on day one of the games release. The process are short and only a tad complicated but, you'll go from ten minutes to loaded in under a minute. It also fixes the freezing and such. It has something to do with the files, administration, and steam but, it's been a bit since I've done the process myself. I'd suggest looking it up because it fixes that problem without issue.
