You got to understand, he was frozen in time at a point where he thought the Imperium was looking up and felt his father's dream will be realized. Then 10,000 years later, he wakes up realizes everything he worked for, and all the dreams his brothers and armies fought and died to make reality are now ash. Like the church, one of the main points of what they were fighting for was to abolish religion. Now he has to pay lip service to an organization that worships a man that hated worship. Guilliman is a man forced to lead a humanity that is a rotten perversion of everything he stood for and it eats away at his soul constantly. Man really needs a hug.

Some context here: The narrator is Guilliman. Primarch of the 13th Legion Ultramarines. He is the current ruler of the Imperium of man and the first Primarch that came back. Guilliman is kneeling at the grave of his brother Sanguinius, the Primarch of the Blood Angels killed by the traitous Horus. This trailer reveals that the victory of Guilliman's Indomitus crusade is just propaganda. Nothing is going well and there are more nids. Btw, there is a new Primarch that came back: Lion El'Jonson. You should check the reveal. He is brother of Guilliman and I am just dying to know his reaction with the state of the Imperium. Ps. You should react to Helsreach, a fan animated video with an excellent Warhammer 40k story.

The Indomitus Crusade was successful as a counterattack to halt Chaos in their initial drive after Cadia. It’s just not ‘victory on all fronts’. It’s holding a line slowly, falling back in others, and winning a few times. Better than the Imperium could expect honestly.

The Imdomitus crusade was a victory, it achieved its intended purpose of bringing relief and reinforcement to heavily besieged areas of the Imperium. I think this trailer shows Imperium Nihilus which is an altogether different story.

This is a war that will never end. The second you believe Imperium Sanctum is won, you've lost it, and it's not coming back. The pressure to take it down, from the inside, from the outside, and from another universe will NEVER STOP, and every time those forces lose, they will find another way to win, even if they have to have your own people deliver that victory for them.

Strangely , that is not Sanguinius's grave. On the GW Community Page , they said it was the Silver Door. The Door to the Golden Throne. So why the Blood Angel banner was there is anyone's guess. Unless ofc _every_ first founding chapter's banner is outside the Door and we were shown that one to make a point.

Also, from what I understand, they actually did NOT fight Hive Fleet Leviathan; that was just a splinter fleet. What's coming, now, is the TRUE Hive Fleet Leviathan. That's Roboute Guilliman, aka: "Robot Girlyman". He's the Primarch or leader of the Ultramarines. The blue space marines. He was frozen or missing for the past ten thousand years of history or something like that. Point is, he remembers what the Imperium was supposed to be like and, in the video, he's lamenting what it's become. But he has no time for that because humanity is locked into a pitched battle for its very survival.

Just so you know the guy at the start is the narrator. He is Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the 13th Legion. He's basically one of The Emperor's demi-god sons. His specialty is organization and logistics, not even The Emperor was as good at those things as Guilliman. Following The Heresy he was drawn into a trap by his traitor brother Fulgrim and mortally wounded, he was saved due the sacrifice of his space marines and brought to Maccrage where he was placed in stasis, which slowed the effect of the poison and kept him comatose basically. He was resurrected after 10,000 years from this state of being half alive, half dead, then became so depressed at the state of the Imperium he essentially wanted to die again. Since then he has taken over the Imperium, saved it and started a renaissance of sorts, encouraging research and development again after 10,000 years of stagnation. Purging corruption and leading the largest crusade since the days of the Great Crusade to bring relief and reinforcement to the heavily besieged Imperium.

Forgot to mention how Guilliman got rid of the High Lords of Terra and wields the Emperor's Sword. And most importantly, it was Guilliman who wrote the Codex Astartes which also mandated the reorganization of the remaining Loyalist Space Marine Legions into Chapters that can only number 1000 Space Marines. Serves two purpose. Lorewise, done to prevent another Horus Heresy in that traitors won't have the resources to wage a galactic civil war. Gamewise, players have the option to play A. Astartes from the nine original legions B. Astartes from the Successor Chapters (ie Crimson Fists and Black Templars are from the Imperial Fist Legions) C. Design their own Chapter with paint scheme, tactics, background/history, specialties, heraldry. Perfect example are the Blood Ravens. They were created for the Dawn of War computer games. Lorewise they do not know who their Primarchs is (records are lost) so it is a mystery. Are they a Successor Chapter from the Blood Angels, the Ravenguard or from another Legion? In addition, because of a mutation in their gene-seed they have more Librarians than usual for a Space Marine Chapter.

Guilliman is one of the Emperors 20 sons called Primarchs. Basically Demi-gods who were in charge of a space marine legion, his being he Ultramarines. Every space marine in a legion had genes put in them based off their Primarch. During the Horus Heresy half went traitor minus the two Primarchs erased from history (so people can make custom ones). Guilliman had his throat slit by his traitor brother Fulgrim the Primarch of the Emperors Children. He was in a stasis field for 10,000 years so he never aged and the wound closed slowly during his coma. He reasons recently and is now more or less in charge of the imperium.

UltraSmurf™ has fully realized his UltraDepression™. That sword, btw is literally the Emperor's, and it randomly catches fire when wielded by one of virtuous intent and strong soul. Guilliman is an agnostic and pragmatist, and the only other Primarch aside from Dorn and Vulkan to actually do his taxes and even send them in. Robot GirlyMan knows full well what Tyranids are actually capable of, and one of his most trusted captains has actually faced the *actual* mind of the Tyranid and he realizes that they are beyond even the scope of the galaxy or even the power of Chaos. The librarian saw a mind stretching through both time and even other dimensions and realities and utterly alien to any kind of life the galaxy understands as a civilization. They are by far the greatest threat to status quo humanity has ever encountered, and the empire he helped to found has regressed into barbarism and religious fanaticism, two things both he and the Emperor absolutely despised. This is the tool he has been given to fight with. On top of that he has met with his father again and and has seen now what the Emperor truly is, and it has left him cold. Instead of family reunion, it was the Tool of Supreme Administration receiving instructions from a now cynical and now uncaring Master, who simply wishes the business of Humanity's ascension to be furthered at any due speed, costs be damned. He has been shown greater kindness in his return by Xenos than those whom serve him unto death, and the only equal he can currently confide in is even worse than the Emperor in manipulation and lies; Lion El'Johnson might have been a compatriot once, but that was long long ago, and the Verdant Lion cannot be trusted any further than he can be thrown. Rowboat GorillaMan has very long road ahead of him. and it is full disappointment and very very sharp teeth.

I'm a megalomaniac and that line resonates with my soul the same way yelling "WAAAAAAAAAGH" does for orks, I mean, every cell in my body is energized by that line. God I've absolutely fallen in love with Guilliman's personality and character and presence, I completely dismissed him as an administrator and little else when I first got into Warhammer, and hearing all the comments of the Ultramarines being Mary Sues and generic marines, etc., etc., lots of hate going their way. The Space Marine with the glowing axe and eyes is a Librarian- a Psyker who becomes a Space Marine- and his weapon is a force weapon, which is built to focus Psychic energy from the wielder's mind into their victim. Between their powers and their combat skills, they're incredibly valuable to their Chapters, but every Librarian remains at risk of Chaos corruption thanks to the Warp, so they're usually watched closely by their fellow Space Marines. Short version: Just as in our world, do not mess with a Librarian.

The average lifespan of each Space Marine is somewhere between 50 and 400 years, based on the source. So collectively they lost upwards of tens of thousands of years of battle experience in that one fight. Every Tyranid that was killed was probably less than a week old, and their biomass will be consumed to make a replacement by the days end. This is why Tyranids are such a major threat beyond possibly having conquered all the nearby galaxies too. They just fight in what is effectively unending numbers. We might win some battles and have hope, but every victory against them is a "Pyrrhic victory", which comes from an ancient real life general who lost most of his forces and all of his friends in a few terribly costly battles. He basically said afterwards, one more victory like that and they'd be doomed. This is exactly what is represented on the map of the galaxy Gulliman was looking at, knowing exactly how costly this, the 4th Tyranic war, will be.

I keep remembering a saying I saw someone say somewhere can't remember who, "War isn't hell, War is worse than Hell. Because in Hell there are no innocents." The Tyranids are such a terrifying enemy, they come off as mindless beasts but the moment you treat them as mindless beasts you die. THey adapt and evolve to counter specific threats and have such numbers that the Hive Mind considers it a very valid and feasible tactic literally throw bodies at a position to run the defenders out of ammunition.

Not only has Guilliman returned from the Primarchs of the Ultramarines in the 9 edition. Also the Primarchs of the First Legion Lion El'Jonson is back in the 10th edition. I hope one of those primarchs will come back too. Leman Russ from the Space Wolfs, Vulcan from the Saalamanders or Corvus Corax from the Raven Guards. Although Corvus Corax will be warp altered.

Kind of makes me wonder if having a full legion would have helped rather than the reduced size of the chapters. After the Horus Heresy chapters were only around a thousand marines, with about a thousand chapters. The legions originally had around 10,000 though some may have reached 15,000. It depends. I haven't read recent books so I don't know if that's going to change now that the ultra-smurfs primarch is back. Although I think The Black Templars have numbers in several thousand, having like three crusades at once, though they once had 14 I think. Lore buff fact check? All in all I love how serious the tyranids were being depicted here. When a dreadnaught falls, and a squad of space marines in terminator armor, a Librarian pysker space marine and several having shields (That golden skull with spikes on their back) did absolutely nothing. Also seeing that big boy was great. The Lion looks pretty cool so I hope we get to see him animated like this soon.

If a space marine legion had 10,000-15,000 space marines in it, it would be considered almost dead and in need of emergence rebuilding. Before the Horus Heresy the legions varied in size between 80,000 to 250,000 space marines.

So there is a lot to take in this trailer. For Guilliman he awakes from once a time of peace with his father and is now surrounded by bloated bureaucratic incompetence and corrupted leaders who wish to remain in power. Another major thing is that there is victory that is mentioned. It is the same adage that the imperium use to fan this lie to its citizen's. That victory is possible. Guilliman knows this is a lie but what choice does he have. If the populace is not fed this then the panic that would grip the entire imperium, riots would take place, and untold massacre would unfold and some would worship the dark gods for salvation. So Guilliman is forced to fight and hold the line in every sector of the imperium and to bring "victory " but a great cost. There is also talk about his brother returning, so if you search up lion El Johnson's model reveal it will show the brother returning to help him in this fight. I know my breakdown is long but Guilliman has a whole galaxy on his back that he must defend. But he won't be alone in this fight.

What also bears mentioning is the Tyranids evolve by consuming other life-forms. Entire new strains have been birthed because they omnomnommed on the species of our galaxy. ...aaaaand now one Hive Fleet was exposed to the Warp and it's denizens for some time. So now we get to fight daemonic Tyranids. 40K... where the entire setting is just a big "FUCK YOU!" to every living being inside it. Apart from the Orks. They are just having a blast. XD

Tyranid players are hyped because the new 10th edition is going to have Tyranids be the big bad, like how Necrons were the big bad of 9th edition. And we got a lot of new models coming, including old models being brought back with a fresh new look (like the big bug that 'screamed' plasma on the space marines) and fresh new versions of things like the little bugs, who have molds that are more than a decade old.

Awesome trailer especially because they actually show us Guilliman but it is weird that the UMs would send down 10 marines without support including a captain, apothecary, dreadnought and a librarian to fight nids during night-time in a jungle, obviously would not be like this in the real lore.
