Guardsmen stories > space marine stories anyday. They’re just so much more empathic and relatable, whereas space marine stories need tertiary humans to that end. Or to be told through a satirical point of view, at least, to be worth anything beyond the imagery. Which is fun in its own way of course.
@billl29034 жыл бұрын
Andrew Holcrft but they’re basically space vampires who exist to fight and fight to exist. Honestly I find the most ‘human’ to be chaos marines sometimes, or marines struggling with the idea of mental independence.

Are there any follow up yarrick audio books?
@Smacstac4 жыл бұрын
I dunno. In storm of iron you get a real sense of how alien human concepts of hospitality are to space marines. The imperial fist captain from that book always made me chuckle at how he fumbled with normal human social cues the way a child would and yet how easy it was for him to form military strategy.

This actually made me dream of hiding from gretchin and orks in a blitzed city. I don't know why but it's easy to forget green skins are terrifying and not just comic relief.
@BertramShord3 жыл бұрын
Quite interesting to notice, how similar dreams can be across different persons. Being chased seems to be some kind of deep seated, subconscious pattern i guess. Had that one some times and once, like you, it was orks (off different sizes - so gretchins'n'stuff?) It was the very first time i could exert some measure of controll about the whole scenarion. For at some point, running and to be hones, scared as fuck, i thought: Wait, there's some distance between them and me, maybe even a corner. Didnt think that, but basically: "Line-of-sight is broken" . So why not step aside into those bushes at the side of the wall or damm i was runnig on and possibly they just run past me. Thought that and made the deliberate choice to do so. Didnt help, they got me and i woke up. And the few seconds in which they found me made it more akin to a nightmare. But i still remember making that choice and thinking in a dream, without waking up. 1. Nice to read your commend 2. more controlled lucid dreaming is a fetching goal. 3. Yarrick is beast. Not half a fuck for Astartes, who are bred to "know no fear" and still fall to Chaos, probably because they do know fear (how to survive without that signal telling you: "Danger! Danger! Be aware!" ? But surpress it, which doesnt make it go away for good. It comes back after a century or so and fucks them up royaly. Yarrick knows fear ... grabs it and than crushed fears head with his powerclaw! 4. calling a voluntary return to service "making a Yarrick" . Like: "Yeay obviously he's to old and didnt have to serve in this battle, but he wanted to make a Yarrick. So sure! We can use every man." 5. n'other dream: Me and two friends (i mean my dream version of Helge and Ole - how could we share a dream, thats nonesense) found our selfes in a war like WWI or again some WH40K scenarios (had only little exposure to that universe back than, but hey) trenches and dirt everywhere, and i, like it is in dreams, just knew my friends an me were somekind of officers. Responsible for those grunts in the trenches. Cloud of gas encrawled on us and i was convinced i could safe some of them, just by dragging them away from the brownish mist. (remembered making some kind of split-decision- cant leave them there!) Tried and pulled someone a few meters, than noticed that i was just holding somekind of coat filled with the remains of a man, no lower body, just empty eyes and what my teenage mind must have imagined entrails looked like, hanging out. Like the "gas" had corroded them completly. Had watched Deathwach some days prior. So that whole WWI Gas/ Trenches'n-swollen-unrecognizable-corpse - thing was a freh imprint on me. Interestingly i never considered this one a nightmare, but - strange as that might sound - an amazing experience i still wish to repeat. 6. 'nought rambling in a comment section :D

Don't let meme brain let you forget that the only reason Orks don't rule the galaxy is that they spend as much time fighting each other as they do WAAAGHing. Even Chaos doesn't scare them. If humanity ever got to the point of almost being push back to just the solar system, the warp would become an Ork dimension. Gork n Mork would have fun beating up the big 4 chaos gods on a regular basis... Except maybe Khorne, Khorne would get so strong from an orky galaxy that he'd become the 3rd Ork god. The Octarius sector is an Ork empire the size of Ultramar.

I had a dream I got to be a living bomb from one of these stories. another time was being on a wall as a steel legion member trying to keep the militia rallied on the wall against the orks on Armageddon, I got to see a old man who lost his entire family jump into the green skins coming up I then saw a young boy too small to hold a rifle do the same in another spot and a few more after them do the same to the groups of orks that were climbing up, all these people who were either too old or young that had nothing left had explosives on them and it bought enough time for the glorified construction loader to have a man welded inside rigged to blow and sent to fight a mech that was coming. After a little while I died to a large axe in my guts near the top of a hive spire we defended while giving the man at the top the signal to detonate the base of the building now that I knew the entire thing was full of the xeno, my last thoughts were of the chipped ork tooth hitting me as I shoved what was left of my weapon and the arm holding it past the broken teeth and down my killers throat, the dumb beast was already dead as was I but I let it taste my las gun I had rigged to detonate anyway (a guards men trick Eisenhorn had to deal with) just to really make sure my killer never made it out of here alive. Had another dream I was a guardsmen or officer on a wall pushing a artillery shell off the side to stop a engine of woe climbing up the side. I knew we’d never survive as did we all but I’d be damned if I’d let the enemy win regardless. All these things are from various stories but by god it felt real at the time.

My 9yr old boy's favourite bedtime story! We've listened to it sooo many times. Since it was posted; 3 years now! (Since he was 6!) Bas' is a great role model for a squishy "grub" modern kid. Being 'ard is an admirable trait that is becoming rarer in our 'feelings first' modern world. Bas' story puts perspective on going to sports training when youre a feeling tired, pushing through on the rugby field when you feel exhausted. Not confusing adrenaline for fear when bowing in for a judo match... Never give up, always have hope, know your feelings but dont let them stop you. Bullies speak bully "Don't you ever back down, don't you ever let them win. 'Ard leasons are the ones that count. 'Ard leasons make 'ard people." And at least dad isnt as mean as Bas' grand father 😂🤣. The knife work in the story is a bit graphic for a kid's tale, but I havent been stabbed... yet... 🤔 And my boy hasn't smeared himself in faeces to hide from Orks either. 😁 Thanks so much Aborder Prince for doing such an amazing reading of this story!
