makes sense, The constant interfactional fighting involved with chaos would lead to a high attrition rate. Their would probably be 100 chaos marines who claim to have been from the heresy (members of chaos would have no qualms about lying and would kill anyone who calls them out) to every marine that was actually from the heresy

I enjoyed every minute of this story. Great writing and an excellent job narrating. It's not a flattering portrayal of the Chaos Legions in the end. Perturabo told Honsou that "this is a new kind of war" and Changrel seems to have ran afoul of that fact. He named his opponents cowards, and perhaps they were, but his honor and his arrogance made him underestimate the lengths a coward would go to if provoked. And he certainly did that, which turned out to be a mistake. Boasting of a superiority you haven't earned makes your eventual humiliation inevitable. Maybe that's the reason Changrel never became a Warsmith. He harbors too much desire for other people to be impressed with him, and that is the rust that eats at his iron.

The sorcerer is right though ... it never occured to me that the reason the imperium still stands after all these chaos incursions, is that chaos isn't even comitted to the battle. 90% of them simply do not care any more, they have the entire immaterium to explore. What could they possibly want from this dreary, stagnant material realm? There is no future in past -- the Imperium drives this point home with every passing day, monotony ad infinitum LOL

Aye it is a theory a lot of people say and I can't deny it doesn't have merit. The Imperium for all of its flaws is perfect for Chaos. Same could be said about the Orca. People also say the reason why Abbadon was chosen was because of how incompetent he is. Just good enough to not get crushed himself. Many others like Huron could possibly lead to a "chaos" victory but the Gods don't want this stalemate to end. The masses of human grief, pain, suffering, and all the emotions are just fuel for them. They want the status quo which is why they do seem to react when something throws a wrench into their plans.
