For fear of SDC (Steve Dice Contamination) please follow these simple and straightforward rules. 1) Do not eat from the same chip bag/bowl as Steve. 2) Drink from different soft drink bottles. 3) Do not order from the same take away venue as Steve. 4) Do not look at Steve in the eye when rolling your dice 5) Do not use the word dice in Steve’s presence. Even the case of homonym examples ie “hey Steve, how fine do you dice your onions?”

Video Request: Could you make a video discussing how to make a good list that complements itself well? I don’t mean saying what exact unit to put where, but to explain the formula for how you make a list. For example: you will need “X” amount of battle line for this reason, and “X” amount of vehicles for this reason, and “X” amount of characters. I know 40K has a ton of variables so maybe I’m asking too much, but to understand that actual PROCESS I feel would benefit many of the newer players (myself included). Great video as always gentlemen! I always learn so much from you both! Growth > Fixed

“Functional fixedness” ~ a cognitive bias that limits a person's ability to use an object in more ways than it is traditionally used and affects an individual's ability to innovate and be creative when solving challenges. This is essentially the psychological issue you guys touched upon. Thanks for putting it out there. Feels like a lot of players get caught up in the “I have to….” Dilemma. Just because a unit can deep strike, or just because your detachment rule works on charges, it doesn’t mean you have to over commit to those things. Infiltrators have far more uses than just sitting in a backfield. Kudos!
@hyperspacehobbies
@hyperspacehobbies 2 ай бұрын
Functional Fixedness interesting, thanks for your definition. I didn't even know this was a term. Thinking outside the box is important in 40k, the game is just so wacky and varied with all the units and overlapping rules.

My biggest mistake is how I have been reacting to other people’s mistakes. My real life has been quite stressful the last couple years, and recently I have had trouble controlling myself vocally when things go sideways. I own my control issues and have decided to take a break from our hobby until my life is in a better place. I guess I don’t know why I posted this, except maybe to remind people that everyone’s life is different and self care should be everyone’s number one priority. I think all of us forget that sometimes.
@spacemarinesteve6057
@spacemarinesteve6057 2 ай бұрын
I think that this is a good statement, and thank you for saying it. It is hard to admit that things are hard. Stress surfaces in so many ways, and there have been times that the stress of my personal life punches through to the time I spend in the hobby, with my friends, etc... I think a self-imposed "time out" is good for all of us sometimes. It is fantastic that you can recognize that. I wish you the best, Battle Brother.

You've already done the most important thing. You've realized that there was an issue and your doing your best to get better. And youve done that on your own which is difficult, but awesome. I hope you don't mind, but I'm just going to go ahead and sacrifice 1000 psykers a day until you are back in fighting shape.

I had to take a break for six months as well. I was getting too consumed by the hobby and ended up with a huge pile of shame. So I just took time off from gaming and spent time building and painting, but without the stress of "I need that for the game next Saturday." Now I'm back and it's a lot more fun. Good on you for knowing that you needed to take a breather.

Saving CP is legit difficult. This game has so much happening all at once that your mental stack goes completely haywire. I recommend having notes on what you want to achieve so you can look at it from time to time. There's situations where I legit forgot what my secondaries were and I moved my stuff, then realized I couldn't score max when I could have done it easily. Seriously, take notes, it makes organizing your thoughts so much easier. My friend actually had the successful turn 1 issue last game. He was World Eaters and got first turn and got basically everything except Angron into melee due to some issues on his sequencing of charges. He killed like 10 Poxwalkers, two Termies and dented one of my PBCs. I absolutely ANNIHILATED him on the crackback. Maulerfiend? Dead. Exalted Eightbound? Dead. Jakhals on homefield? Dead. Angron? Dead. The only reason and I mean ONLY reason he stayed in the game is he got lucky and resurrected Angron immediately on his next turn. We actually rolled the prayers after my fight phase to see if he would concede the game right there. On TURN 1. Just because he thought he was going to do way more damage than he actually did. Having a gameplan going in depends on the matchup, I agree on this point. But yeah, keep in mind what your list is good at doing and don't contest your opponent in a way you will very likely lose. Yeah, with the unit selection, I've recently tried things in Death Guard that aren't considered the best but something I think has merit, like 10 Blightlords brick+LoC. It smacks REALLY hard, and with Disgustingly Resilient, damage 3 weapon profiles are suddenly not killing them in one shot. It's extremely potent against melee threats, very few things can beat through it with any sort of consistency, especially things large threats like Angron or C'tan because they can't really kill enough in one turn to not get slapped back pretty severely. I'm doing it to learn, not to win. This is a good video, definitely some good advice in here. Simple and pretty obvious when you think about it but sometimes, the fundamentals are lost in the sauce.

Vanguard strat to do mw when battle shock failed can be used twice a turn since reivers cause it at beginning of fight phase, then again at battleshock phase. So good. Plus they all have precision on shoot and melee. I love them

Also, seems like competitive players go on and on about how great certain combinations are, and then you think you need them, but think they kinda suck, but you keep using them, cause tyhe internet says they're the best. Like Bloodcrushers. Online players rave about how great they are, and I always felt like they were one hit wonders. Good charge, but then they suck in combat after the charge. And they cant fall back and charge. But I kept bringing them, cause people talk about how good they are. Finally quit using them a couple games ago, and I'm scoring more. Alternately I love pink horrors w a Fluxmaster, but online people complain about them. So point is, listen to online stuff for ideas but build armies that resonate for yourself. BTW, this is the first comment I've ever made on youtube! Whoa.
@hyperspacehobbies
@hyperspacehobbies 2 ай бұрын
Your first comment ever!? Well we am honored. Hey Bloodcrushers are a mixed bag, sometimes they destroy and other times they fall flat, your 100% correct after the mortal wounds from the charge they usually flub it in combat. The internet net lists should be taken with a grain of salt. No list will be better than one that you craft with your own style and plan in mind. but lots of times playing a Net list can open your eyes to a different style of combo that might benefit typical lists you play.

Love this video!! So many good points made. A vid recommendation: can you make a vid that details how to remain clear headed and calm once the game begins. It’s a weird feeling, so much planning goes out of the window. Then I find myself on the hoof! The old adage - play more games or play better, won’t matter as I play once a month. Anyway, keep it up guys

One big thing that helped me was to remind myself you win the game through VP, so each important action or movement I do I ask myself does it score me vp? How does it do that? Sure I can kill a unit with my suits, but maybe I just DS and get BEL. They don’t kill anything but their alive unit can’t accomplish much next turn and I got some VP out of it.

I would have went with you have a plan you try and stick to the plan. But this is also a 2 player game. If your opponent has thrown your game plan into the shredder you don't keep working the plan as it's failed... you need some adaptability and alot of flexibility with your list

The CP thing: Always plan out and save CP for what you need. Without it, Morvenn Vahl can't shoot 3 times in a single battle round, Characters can't stand up, and Repentia can't cut down a Land Raider. True story, so WATCH YOUR CP
