@@benprins8240 I've been playing on Exterminatus, the highest difficulty. You can one-shot basic cultists with a bolter but cultist champions take 3 bolter shots and things scale up from there. Chaos marines take numerous shots, Chaos terminators are insanely durable vs. a bolter, etc.. Exterminatus isn't too challenging though.

For those who don't know: Space Marines, in their basic armor, are fast. They are genetically, biologically, and cybernetically modified super soldiers and their power armor only enhances their capabilities. It's only in their Terminator armor, like in the Space Hulk games, that they are lumbering, walking tanks. It would have been nice to add the mobility of the Assault jetpacks, perhaps with limited fuel, to help traverse verticle spaces.

Simply an excellent game imo. I got it last night, and played 5 hours in one sitting, finishing act 1 and getting a few missions into act 2. looking forward to finishing the game in the next couple of days and then doing it again on harder difficulties! As a Warhammer 40k fan, it’s great to see actual good 40k games coming out.

I love how absolutely lethal you are in this game. They nailed the feel of being a Space Marine. I especially love how the bolter is the first gun, but always a great gun--its never not useful and it tears enemies into pieces.

Just bought the game, played a few hours so far and wow its really fun. I didn't know anything about 40k before a week or so ago, but its awesome and this game it worth it for sure. I love taking in the scenery and the blood and gore looks great. Now i want to watch lore videos to learn more about everything.

I really like that they included the classic computer game saving mechanic where you can manually save/load when and where you want, as well as quicksave/quickload. Contrary to what a lot of gamers think, that is very old school and was practically a given in most computer games for years! We could save our game when and where we wanted as far as 1980 with games like Zork, and certainly the early FPS games, like Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM had manual saving and loading on computers.

If there's only 1 legit complaint is that it features the Ultramarines, the stock standard marty-sue-ish chapter of the SPESS MEHREENS. The narrative actually continuing from the exploits of a legit badass member of the chapter is the redeeming factor. That's right, this is a story sequel to the AWESOME original Space Marine third person-shooter, set on the same planet even. With you as a Sternguard Veteran, finishing where our good Captain Titus left off.

It seems like it wouldn't be too much trouble in these doom retro shooters to add a few more frames to the overall animations. I think it would add a great deal to the visual fidelity and the overall feeling of speedy gameplay. ACG is correct in pointing this out, and quite frankly, I would love to see a what a decently budgeted sprite based FPS retro shooter could pull off graphically in 2023, utilizing Modern 2d technology; with no worry of adhering to old school game standards. I am imagining applying digital mocap similar to Mortal Kombat, Narcs, or pitfighter but with modern tech in a 3d environment.

I like shotguns that have a tighter spread, and decent range. In real life shotguns aren't blunderbusts. They are still lethal at some range, even with small game loads, and with heavier shot, they can be like shooting many 9mm shots at the target, with the range to match.

I like my shotguns to be more or less instant problem solvers for most of the enemies in close range and a good chunk of them in mid range. Basically double shotgun from Doom 2 is how I was raised.

As a huge fan of old school shooters and FPS games in general, Warhammer 40K Boltgun is right up my alley. It's not as challenging and complex as Doom 2016, but it's still a fun experience regardless. It's more along the lines of a budget version of Doom, but that's OK. Seems they pretty much hit every nostalgia trigger that is needed. That looks like the game I dreamed of when I was a teenager and painted my first Space Marines. I would have loved a chapter select for your character though. Seems the simple story isn't even too chapter specific. Unfortunately it's always only the Ultramarines.

Damn this feels amazing to play!! I wish devs could make games just like this, with the retro inspired feel, using sprites and voxely pickups and everything, but just at a higher fidelity... like here you can see they probably spent time writing shaders that make the game look aliased, poorly dithered etc. just to feel like old games. Why not this exact game but with higher fidelity? Still awesome though. Glad Karak echoed this sentiment briefly in the review.

I agree I only played like 2 hours so far, but dang its so fun. I'm not even that into shooters, but the visceral crunch of combat is so enjoyable. Purging heretics has never been so fun! And it works day one! Totally worth the couple bucks imo.

I prefer meaty shotguns still grounded in realism. Something I've always enjoyed is when games have weapon effects i.e. modern Fallout, where those effects are applied to each pellet. Usually pretty OP though haha. Edit: grammar

Figured I'd answer your shotgun question! (Nice video as well). I've always enjoyed tighter spreads that offer some greater range other than about 3 feet in front of you. Rising Storm 2: Vietnam had one of my favorite inclusion of shotguns in games. Though they were maybe a bit too useful too far away...I liked it though. While I admit that Halo 2/3's shotgun was good in its sandbox I was always annoyed at just how close you needed to be for it to give that satisfying shotgun impacts. Fallout New Vegas had some fun shotgun action with the multiple ammo types as well.

Great video. But I just want to ask if anyone has some performance issues? Like I had this problem with the fps going 0 in some randoms instances. The game freezes for a seconds but I still can hear the audio, the controller vibrates and all. That’s like the only issue and it’s random, but it happens. Playing in a series X

Best shotguns are the ones on the more realistic range spectrum, with a high damage blast. No good shotgun should take more than a couple shots to blow apart small to mid tier enemies.

Okay I'm guessing the hulking tank men is from Space Hulk Deathwing. Those are Space Marines decked out in Terminator Armor. This is, far as I'm aware, a Space Marine from the Ultra Marine Chapter (poster boys from Ultramar) Now I personally think this should've been a Custodes but either way the standard Space Marine is speedy compared to a human.

I love how every weapon hits like a MFer…every gun rips enemies into pieces very fast…the boltgun is just as good as others you get, maybe the best, especially with upgraded ammo etc…and every bullet goes EXACTLY where you want it to

I picked this up and can't wait to play it after I finish Evil West. Warhammer is like the new Star Wars and is becoming massively popular. The only problem is that as things become more popular they attract weirdos that feel the material needs to change to fit what they want instead of being happy with what is there. Here's hoping Warhammer doesn't go the route of Star Wars and alienate the fanbase that made it what it is in the first place.

I prefer shotguns more realistic. They can be good within 50 feet, but games tend to think they only use birdshot! Most shotguns in battle will be using buckshot, or slugs, which have much better range! Im a shotgun guy

I love the concept of that weapon but I always sucked with it. The projectile speed just throws me off. Ironically the only way I ever hit people with it is to aim at the ground in front of their feet and catch them with the upwards ricochet lol. I like the secondary fire, but if I'm gonna be lobbing "grenades" I'm more of a Bio Rifle secondary fire guy.

I like my shotguns to be deadly up close with a massive fall off at range. Shotguns that are done right are always my preference. Growing up on Gears of War spoiled me.
