I like the idea of a space pirate with a prosthetic eye instead of a patch, or bionic leg instead of the peg leg. I think it would be cool and based and with the size of this universe I fully expect that someone already thought of it and did it and there is a 40k game or book somewhere that I need to get my grubby mitts on.

The Mechanicum's doctrine is that human operators are central. A machine without a once-baseline human mind directing it would be abhorrent. The MIU interface is a pretty good example of how they envision communion with a machine.

I always like the bionics in this universe, they all look rugged and durable and actually look "realistic", I never liked the overly advanced bionics in games like cyberpunk because they look so delicate and prone to malfunctioning more easily. Also, do Augmeticists have a understanding on how machines work to repair and maintain them or do they rely on the mechanicus to do repairs for them?
@alexandarvoncarsteinzarovi37233 жыл бұрын
Bionics or cyber mechanic advanced prosthesis if we want to full grammar loyalist, are not always the best option unless you are packing in the currency to afford it, if we use the main idea that Imperial Credits exit in 40K then something that looks like a piece of art that is taking enough firepower that can damage or take out Terminator Armor, you have to at the very least be a royal, there, for example, several variations of this the Custodes have, for example, there are a few of the senior members among them who have Digital Bionics in their eyes & helmets, certain members of the Inquisition do this as well, limbs can also work the same way, from a power field generator to turn your entire arm into a power fist, to flamer, or a needler, or the good old fashion extending power blade,
@SusCalvin2 жыл бұрын
Most people just have bionics that restore lost function, and lot of it just restores it "good enough". A bionic hand is better than no hand. On the lower scale, you might just get a simple grasper. Or they figure you don't need colour vision to do your job. Bionics, like a lot of other imperial tech, can be reused over and over.

@@alexandarvoncarsteinzarovi3723 I can't remember what bionics cost in the original Dark Heresy. It followed the same quality levels as any other gear. @SusCalvin2 жыл бұрын
Orks are Toughness 4 as standard, equal to marines. You can do a lot with a marine's physiology that a normal human wouldn't survive either. Ork doks have the same intuitive knowledge other specialists of their species exhibit. They would never be able to explain it in words, but they can build and fit bionics in fellow orks. Just because you have no word for a neural link doesn't mean it needs space magic. The... Thingy-bit just goes in the grey jiggly stuff at you-know-where. One dok can't explain their work to another dok. They follow the other design philosophies of that race. Few safety standards, hastily stamped-out parts, rugged simplicity, small shops run by individual "artificers".

In Dark Heresy you could get into the lower-quality bionics. If you want the good stuff that improves your function or grants you entirely new ones it's going to be costly. But if you want to just restore function or even only restore it "well enough" the price range dips. Worst-quality bionics is always ugly, bulky and obvious. It's mass-produced parts stamped out in standard formats or cobbled together in small shops. It's better than nothing, an eye that can only see monochrome is better than no eye, and a "hand" that's just a simple grasper is better than none. Bionics, like other imperial tech, can often be reused. If a tech-priest dies with a relic bionic, the other priests might decide to recover that bit. Like with other archeotech, there are relic bionics as well who has been traded down for several centuries.

@@GrimDarkNarrator Most bionics have no impact on the scale that you fight a battle on. Bionics could give you a save, like a chance to take a bullet in your prosthethic leg instead of something vital. As you mention, it restores but does not improve function. Fantasy Flight gave all gear a quality rating. A lowest-quality lasgun would lose its reliability, lowest-quality armour was janky and ill-fitted. While highest-quality stuff would not necessarily be high-tech, just made with better craftsmanship and materials. Like a +5 to hit with it, or an extra armour point.

I know this is sort of off topic but it kind of had me thinking....what if the old earth federation managed to survive? How do you think that would have played put with the rest of the galaxy? Would the emperor showed himself still and try a take over? Or how would mankind fair against everyone else with havings its superior tech
@justinians93676 жыл бұрын
Ian Hardin hay just my 2 cents but with warp fuckery thats completely possible maybe not the whole federation but maybe like a chunk of it or an exploration fleet i dont think thay would like the imperium to much its like haveing Jon luke Picard meet a Commisar that would go south rapidly
@soontir_fel18166 жыл бұрын
Justinian S i guess in the scenario what if the federation with sol and a few other systems manage to make it and somewhat be thrown in a martial law way to where they dont fall completely and manage to hold its position until the storms stop. Would the emperor still initiate a take over? How much more progress would they be able to achieve having dark age technology.
@GrimDarkNarrator6 жыл бұрын
I believe the Emperor's plan always was to help humanity be free of Chaos forever. That's why he tried to finish the human webway project in the detriment of everything else. If things were different, I think the Emperor would've still attempted to do this but maybe in a somewhat different manner. If a more "democratic" version of the imperium existed already then the Emperor wouldn't have been forced to launch a Great Crusade to reclaim it. The approach would've been less militaristic maybe.

@@GrimDarkNarrator I think GW has used a lot of different interpretations of Him. I like that the man on the Golden Throne is the final mystery of the setting, there's no consistent story or art of Him. Some interpret that the Emperor just stopped acting in the background, and came to believe He needed to become an enlightened despot. A lot of failiures in the Imperium are down to how it's designed for the Emperor and the Imperial Household to keep steering stuff. There was no plan for succession, just delegation of power from the Throne.
