Apparently the way to maximize XP from the mirror event is to wait. You eventually figure out how the mirror works and you get your crew back if you do.

Would have been great if devs highlighted which option is [Exit Conversation] then. For example by putting it at the bottom(which it wasn't this time) and making it a different color and font. I'm disappointed that Retcon didn't pick it, but it's not his fault, that's UI "bug" right there. Most players would believe that "Wait" in this situation would be the one ending the event, not an option above it.

Considering how many people are forced to live in the 40k universe I think their life is not bad!

Sadly that concept is(was?) far beyond the comprehension of most Black Library authors and vast majority of "fans". What we "see" of 40k are their versions of Verdun, Stalingrad and Nanjing. Vast majority of Imperium lives on civilized worlds like modern Earth and die of old age. Imperium has a million worlds. From them a few hundred are hive worlds since their they're based on archaeotech and can't be neither recreated, nor restored en masse. Same can be said about Machine Worlds. And both are usually renowned by name in the setting. Several hundred more are Astartes worlds as there is 1000 chapters in Imperial hands and not all of them have homeworlds. Then there are fortress worlds that exist only in places where strategic location can exist in three dimensional space with FTL that you can't block or intercept in any way ie not so many of them. The rarity of fortress worlds(and war) can also be gleamed from the fact that Imperium doesn't have universal conscription. Most of nowadays Earth does. And they don't have conscription for the same reason there aren't many agri and penal worlds - FTL in 40k is very limited and unreliable. So having a ship dedicated to prisoner transportation is an extremely vane/lavish solution. And transporting all your food from offworld is extremely unreliable. So most worlds are "normal" planets that are self reliable worlds with no particular fame or specialisation behind them.
