My assumption for all vampires being generally evil, is due to the idea you don't just lose your mortality as it once was - but also your soul and humanity, and your past morality simply erodes over time or is flat out abandoned. This is why I personally think Abhorash not accepting the dark gift, but instead being tricked into drinking, was paramount. After all, he didn't make a choice to become a monster, did he? Often vampires in fantasy settings are considered beings of Negative Material energy, they require energy constantly from living creatures to survive. Ever watch Cowboy Bebop? There is a kid whose age is locked in at a very young age, but has lived far longer. Moreover, nothing could kill him, not even total destruction of his body - he was cosmically locked into existence and could not "not" exist. Being immortal turned him into an utter monster.

Heck, in one of the very few times when GW actually came up with something relatively unique, that being the Baneblade, it got stolen by the makers of Command and Conquer, with next to no alterations whatsoever. GW did nothing, of course, because all this IP protectionism is for show to try and boost their market value temporarily before selling to someone (my guess is Hasbro).

@@Jupiter__001_ Sorry, but the Baneblade is hardly unique as a concept, tanks similar in both design and concept existed in Sci Fi long before WG came along. Virtually nothing WG have brought out is new, sure, they have put their own spin or mark on various things but literally everything they have come up with is essentially copied from somewhere else. Hell, its arguable that the Adeptus Astartes are based on Sci Fi Power armoured warriors from books written in the 50's and 60, amongst them being Heinleins Starship Troopers. At the very least they are certainly influenced by such books.....

@@alganhar1 Yeah, I know that tanks have existed in sci-fi for ages, but this thing is almost an exact 1:1 replica, even down to the colour scheme. The only difference I could see is that the front machine-gun port was changed to be cylindrical rather than a small dome. The entire rest of the design was identical. I am aware that both the Space Marines and the Cadian Guard Regiments were taken from Starship Troopers (the book and the movie respectively), and that the entire setting is modified from a combination of Dune and Foundation, but they refuse to defend their IP from actual infringements (like the Baneblade being stolen to make CnC) because they are just bullies. In short, the Baneblade is an original creation, even though it was inspired by real world machines (what isn't inspired by something else?) and is one of the few things in all of Warhammer that isn't a blatant knock-off.

Given how most humans and the Bretonnian chivalric ideals have undead as "kill-on-sight", we can probably assume that Gilles did not *win* their duel. That would almost certainly have resulted in Abhorash's death. I see it far more likely that this duel ended in a hard fought victory for Abhorash, or even a tie. The vampire has a history of respecting mighty opponents, and this oath seems very much in character for him.

I will say Arch, the ancient Nehekarans did live a SHIT long time, so Lahmizzash living so long, same for Nefereta. Look at Settra, for example, he conquered Khemri, then conquered up to the black Mountains, AND THEN created the Mortuary Cult. he was king for at least 160 years, and had been a loyal prince for decades before that. So someone living for 80 years is not massively unusual. It's why Neferata was able to be so influential, her long life made it look like the golden age of Khemri had come again.

Wow, they _really_ changed the lore of the Undead over the years. I remember when they first split them into two factions, and that was more of an expansion of the lore, but they changed it pretty significantly later I see. I don't know if I like it though. Originally Nagash was basically Vecna in all but name, but he seems to have gotten kinda nerfed since then - at least until the End Times and then the Age of Suckmar which I refuse to accept as canon.

There is a question in my mind that I have had since I read Giantslayer as a boy, where it was referenced but never detailed, how would an Elf and a Vampire interact each other? Teclis clearly saw the Vampires as parasites that feed on humanity to keep themselves alive, but how would the Vampires see the Asur (and to a lesser extent the Druchii)?
