Warhammer the Old World - But Where are the Dwarfs?!?

Well where are they? The little stunty folks were announced months ago, yet still we wait. What could be the hold up, and what does this mean for the future of the Old World?

Yep. Radio silence - I would actually be totally fine with it if they just told us what was going on! I don’t expect old world to be pushed hard (as I say in the video) but knowing where we stand would be good

It’s just likely the main studio doesn’t want anything to interfere with AoS 4th edition release BUT… Valrak said the rumor is the next thing for tOW will be chaos warriors. This could mean those he spoke with consider Dwarves as good as released OR that something happened and Specialist Games decided to delay the release of dwarves.

That said it’s likely his source meant CW are next because dwarves have been announced already. Part of me hopes Specialist Games realized how badly balanced dwarves are in FoF and decided to rewrite the Arcane Journal though! 😅

Wtf are you guys getting on about? You can use the dwarf models from age of Sigmar in the old world. I understand wanting rules but I saw Mordian Glory playing his dwarfs in an Old World Game..... Also most dwarf players still have the dwarf models from the original version. Didn't you save yours? Geezus..... What is wrong with you people?

Good for Mordian glory. I don’t know when you last looked but you can’t get your core dwarf warriors on the GW web page, and the other units cycle through in terms of availability. So it’s not doable in terms of a proper old world force in my view. And as for not still having old miniatures two things - what about people who didn’t have dwarfs but want them now? I used to have a small dwarf force but couldn’t afford them as I was too young (we are talking 2004 and 2005 here) and would love to put that right now I’m an adult. And secondly that’s just intrinsically a bonkers argument isn’t it? 😂

none of the artillery is available, same for basic dwarf warrior, thunderers and quarrelers. I am a new player who never got an army before so i just have the longbeard and ironbreakers

@@bleizh_le_rat Slayers are also available, they have the models in Age of Sigmar, might require a little bit of conversions though, also the Empire Cannon makes an decent proxy for the Dwarf Cannon.

In this area, the radio silence has basically killed the interest for Old World, but also WAP and the OPR fantasy regiments game, both of which were doing really well at the start of the year. It's a shame, really. I hope GW kicks things into high gear soon and breathes some life into the game soon.

All the dwarfs you can dream of are available cheap if you invest in a 3d printer. And many of them are better sculpts than the now dated GW ones.

Yeah but like I say in the video for me the nostalgia is a major part of it. Even if they aren’t as nice as the 3d prints the ‘proper’ plastics are the ones I want 😬

Yeah I guess its annoying and a bit shit of them, but I'm just so stoked the old world is back. I've been playing a lot and having the best time! Also, there's so many on par if not superior 3d printing options out there atm especially for dwarfs. Just get some of them and get on the tabletop. We have the dwarfs rules and all the other rules for that matter. Stop torturing yourself by waiting and complaining!

If AoS 3 in 2021 was any indication, GW will vastly overproduce Skavenblight boxes and they'll sit on shelves for years, gathering dust and getting marked down for sale.

@@TabletopSaga Sure, AoS was a disaster when it launched, but I commend GW on doing a No Man's Sky and turning it into a real game. I think GW got really burned on Indomitus in 2020 and are determined never to have that happen again! Thus, overproducing launch boxes.

They have a monetary reason to increase production capacity. As soon as they announced they were building a new factory their shard price raised by 1/10. They need to keep all its fans happy weather they are 40k or old world.

Well, we all have been waiting uncountable years for Warhammer Fantasy to return. I think we all will survive a ridiculously few months to get our beloved stuff. I'm playing Chaos all my life. Imo the 30k assault marines took so long to release because they wanted to release the primaris assault intercessors first. For Tow it is the same. They want to release the new AoS edition first.

The people who really wanted to play TOW fall into three basic categories. First, people who still had their old armies and didn’t need to buy anything. Second, people who have found work arounds. Either buying second hand off eBay or going to third party creators. And third, sadly, the ones who have just given up and moved on. I can’t imagine that anyone who was really motivated to give TOW a try hasn’t, by hook or crook, already cobbled together the army they wanted. So, when the Dwarfs finally release, who’s going to still need to buy their army? I mean, people are playing Skaven and Lizardmen in Indy tournaments and those armies are apparently never going to be officially released for Old World. I’m sitting here painting AoS Dispossessed Irondrakes and Hammerers. So... I won’t be buying those units if they release something different for Old World. (Unless the new sculpts are just amazing) This whole situation makes little or no sense, that I can see.

I can’t disagree with anything you say. I myself am running a game of old world at an event in October, and I held off buying anything in the hope that I would be able to buy new. Given the circumstances I’ve been forced to head to eBay and see what I can find. Not ideal!

What I'm finding is that the older players are helping the newer players get models to a point. Also lots of the 3d printing is just placeholders until the GW plastics are released. The secondary market requires a bit too much money. I think the more we have released, the more players will come to the table. We are already starting to have larger RTTs and GTs for it in my state.

I agree the highland miniatures dwarfs are lovely. But they aren’t the dwarfs I used to covet and love as a teen! It’s the nostalgia hit that really does it for me so unfortunately no 3d print will be good enough. That possibly sounds churlish, but really after an announcement in March I thought I’d be able to get some now 😂

I think you also take into account that the AoS design team never wanted Old World to come out. So they might be throwing a wrench in this. Why wouldn't they release the Dwarfs in June? Why are there even Legacy armies?

@@TabletopSaga yeah, it's possibly a fight for limited resources. I don't think GW thought that Old World would do as well as it has. And that probably worries certain people within the company. All the Legacy armies are armies that have been redone in AoS. I'm enjoying putting the AoS Lizardmen and Vampire Counts on square bases. I'm sure that doesn't sit well with some.

I think you do you mate! I’ve seen lumineth used as high elves and they look awesome. And I think it’s probably true that the success of old world has taken GW by surprise. And in really excited by that - while it means we aren’t getting our stuff in the short term I can console myself that in the long run it’s great for the game!

@@TabletopSaga ultimately imo it's one of GW's best games. I've been playing since 3rd and I'm super happy to just have it back. A few things I wanted to mention are that if you check Best Coast Pairings, the tournament scene is healthy, and getting bigger and bigger. The FLG group in the US is hosting Old World in more and more of their events, including the Las Vegas Open. Zac Addington who runs the London GT is going to have the largest Old World event there to date. So where as GW might have to come to terms with Old Worlds success, the community is already healthy and thriving. I also wanted to mention that I work with a local game store to host events and we are doing an escalation league and thanks to one of your previous videos, we are going to be playing Border Patrol. Oh does it bring back great memories of 6th edition! Thank you! Please keep the videos coming!
