Only have the elf shrine in warhammer but have 4 of the large ruins for 40k and the road system,fun to paint and great on the table,also a few tanks and aircraft also one of the studio L shaped ruins from the 3rd edition rulebook and they all grace the tabletop 20 plus years later.

They’ve made some incredible stuff over the years, love the aesthetics of both the Fantasy and 40K/30k stuff.

That is a great looking sculpt from Forgeworld and you painted it up very nice. Would love to see Games Workshop releasing some of these Forgeworld scenery pieces for Old World if possible. I love that we got the hills and the chapel/watchtower combo that can be built as seperate building or as a mansion.

I hope something may have survived to be released again 🤞

The classic FW terrain was brilliant. I have two of almost everything they did for Warmaster, including the historic Ireland castles. So detailed, they make even the simplest battlefield look so characterful. The Warmaster windmill was a complete pig's ear to tidy up, though.

The Warmaster stuff looks so amazing, bet your tables look incredible.

Looks great! For my buildings I found picking out some stones in other tones gave a nice sense of variety.

Thank you, and yes that’s a really nice effect.

Terrain always used to be a hard task when we were kids. Scratch building really is a skill in its own right. But the terrain does make a game so much more immersive. I thought the GW cardboard terrain was pretty good ☺️. Friend and I make a 6*4 foot MDF table. Lots of PVA and sand and then a Dulux colour match of goblin green and sunburst yellow dry brush over th top ☺️
@MiniatureRealmsАй бұрын
I think my first gaming table was a bright goblin green, my old gaming clubs table were all bright green as well. Very much the standard for years 😂

Lovely paint job! That throwback through the old catalogues has brought back a long forgotten memory of me, my brother, and 2 of our friends on holiday in France in maybe 2002 paying to use the holiday camp computer (!) to go on the Forgeworld site and dream about what we wanted. I'm fairly sure we were put off by them being about £50 in some cases (shock, horror!)
@MiniatureRealmsАй бұрын
That’s awesome! I’ve got fond memories of the GW and FW websites back then, I can remember logging in and watching the webcam they used to have in the WHW gaming hall, god knows why, but it was fun to ‘wish I was there’. Oh I’m sure £50 was expensive back in 2002, probably double that now in inflation.

I still like the more organic look of resin buildings over MDF or 3D printed. That's why I invested in some of Hovels resin buildings, really good price for what you get. Even for someone living in the US.

I’ve got a few Hovels buildings in 15mm for historical games, they’re very nice.

Beautifully done! I have quite a lot of the old forgeworld terrain, but not this piece. They are really wonderful, my favourite is the siege earthworks, it's so impressive in person. I do think in terms of the buildings tabletop world has really picked up the slack and taken it forward, though they've recently moved a to a very high grade in house 3d printing process, their cast stuff was incredible. Their way of making stonework is really incredible, essentially the same as making a real stone building!
@MiniatureRealmsАй бұрын
Thank you. Tabletop World have been on my radar for you years but I’ve never picked anything up, probably time I finally got around to it.
@henriksorensen82Ай бұрын
Looks fantastic! I wonder if GW will enter the 3D printing scene and then I'm thinking primarily of resin printing? It's something they could do and give us fantastic models. Of course 3D printers for home use in all their glory, but the professional ones are much, much better and we don't have to sit in toxic air because not everyone has the space to have a dedicated, well-ventilated place for a resin printer
@MiniatureRealmsАй бұрын
Thank you. It would be very cool if they did, but not sure if they could print the volumes they needed, maybe the future is someone inevitable in that regard though.

Fabulous tutorial Stuart :) The model looks fantastic! I think whether 3D has replaced traditional methods / casting depends entirely on the intended use and implementation. Assuming whether the bulk of the terrain is MDF / papier mache etc., the surface detail and texture, and small objects, could I think be 3D. Then the question is resolution. Even high resolution PLA will /probably/ show the individual layers, as will a low resolution resin 3D print, but PLA may be more robust. Also either method will take hours just to print, even assuming you already have the requisite STL file(s) and don't need even longer to design what you want from scratch. I think in the future - if they are not already - the likes of Forgeworld etc. will cut their costs and not mould /any/ models themselves, and just sell STL files for the modellers to 3D print themselves. That also avoids any QC issues.. if the model print is rubbish that's not the sellers fault. There'll be catalogues to show what a completed model /could/ look like if you 3D print and paint it properly. Also originally Forgeworld had no competition; now they do so the company's profit margins will have become tighter. Regarding the roof.. could it be /hinged/ at the bottom maybe with a hook either end of the lower edge locating on the top of the wall to keep each side from falling off. Then you could have both sides removable. On the subject of the roof, didn't you make life a bit harder for yourself by gluing one half on /before/ you painted it? As one half was going to be off anyway, why not leave them /both/ off to paint? LMAO at 'baby poo colour' !
@MiniatureRealmsАй бұрын
Thank you . Because the roof sits into the window slots, but also an indent on the chimney, it means it need to move in two directs, otherwise the hinge would have been a fun idea.

Lovely looking terrain there. Shame they won’t likely produce it ever again but in this day and age of 3d prints and companies specialising in terrain it wouldn’t make sense for them to even try and make it again. Definitely sometime in the coming months I would like to give it a go doing some terrain myself. I’ve collected a few pieces which work well in addition to the fortified manor set I do hold out some small hope we could eventually see the plastic castle return from GW…
@MiniatureRealmsАй бұрын
I think you could be right, would be a good surprise to bring that back one day, and it’s certainly appeared in some of the new pictures.

Thanks for this I was researching this over a week ago and I didn't find these ! as far as old WHFB terrain all I could find were the latest Old World terrain releases from the past and the the large wizard tower “Witchfate Tor”, its smaller, ruined “Dreadstone Blight tower and the Garden of Morr/Sigmarite Mausoleum (all at silly ebay prices). If you can think of any other pieces I am missing out on then please tell me. Btw I know all the Age of Sigmar terrain pieces many which are now lost in time, I even own a full blown 2 sets of the Chaos Dreadhold Helfort which my The Old World Warriors of Chaos are going to love - an amazing Chaos castle.
