Well presented vlogs and tutorials! I appreciate the effort and it is a tremendous help to me. I have had the large Prussian box for a while but never dared to approach it. I also bought the large push of pike box and not really sure whether the 1000+ or 1300ü miniatures inside is a good slogan! It frightens me. :) Anyway, have started to paint the first Prussian infantry stands and while doing so I am watching your videos. I might be a history teacher but I am not too interested in all the super small details of uniforms (which seems to be a thing when it comes to Napo TT) but have a way more relaxed approach, so I can relate to your idea of using them in the Peninsular war as well. I also started to do an Peninsular British army in 28mm years ago and we played a few games of "Kugelhagel" which is a German book and relatively easy to start with as you do not nead hundreds of miniatures. Unfortunately, there are not too many interested chaps in my area so I would have to go to other parts of Austria to play or a miracle happens and one of my friends starts epic Frenc...you never know! ;)

Thank you very much. They’re certainly huge projects to embark upon, I’m not anywhere near finishing mine, they’re something I’ll return to again and again in between other projects.

I think the KGL for the scale its come out brilliantly. I really like the command stand though with the bit of kit bashing. Fantastic. Did you see the size of the boxes for the starter sets on the Warlord post on FB about the Epic boxes. Huge!!! Look the same size as the ACW box....but thats just one army !!! LOL

Thank you, I love doing the command stands, looking forward to doing more. Yep those boxes look amazing, I can’t wait until they’re out there and the groups are full of pictures of peoples projects.

Yet another great video. Slowly working through my French OOB now The infantry parcel quite well into D'Erlons 1st Corps, the cavalry are a bit more dotted around though, especially the lights. I'm basically going to go for just selecting regiments but keeping them in their Waterloo groups as much as possible. The Heavies fit better with Kellerman's III Cavalry Corps, 11th / 12th Divisions with 2 each of Cuirassiers, Carabiniers and Dragoons. I will have two regiments of each seeing as I plan to split the units in half and have cavalry based in 3s with three stands per regiment (as per Epic guidelines). The lights I'll just try to find the best match, either 1st Light Cav division + bits or 2nd and 5th Cavalry Division which satisfies my OCD nature to have units in pairs LOL. I like the interchangeable flag option, I'll have to see if I have any plastic spears LOL. On that front, I often swap metal spears on ancients for plastic using thick (ish) bristles from a broom. Cut to length, squash one end flat with pliers and then trim the flat end with an Xacto knife. Biggest problem for me will be not having enough standard bearers, converting a musket won't be an option as it's over the left shoulder, not the standard bearer right. Maybe the standard bearer was giving his left arm a rest LOL

Thank you 😊 I need to sort my Water OOB, might try to do that this week if I can find time. I’ve got the info I need to adjust and design my little scenario, so once that’s sorted I’ll pretty much have my OOB. Maybe look at minifig command as an option for the flags, or how about ranked riflemen, there’s a couple of those with the rifle ‘kind of’ across the other shoulder.

All really nice the terrain is very effective and I will be borrowing your paint scheme for the Rifles/ lights, very effective. As to the Brigade commanders I wouldn’t worry too much. I think a lot of Officers etc wore their blue overcoats. Usually the Brigade commanders were affiliated to one of the regiments so most probably wore their facing colours although as you rightly say a lot of Officers chose to do their own thing! Enjoying this project a lot

The KGL looks really nice. It makes sense to take the highlight up a notch so they stand out on the table. Can’t wait to see your tutorial for those. I especially can’t wait until you get some highlanders. Definitely nervous about painting tartan!

@MiniatureRealms 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, the KGL/Rifles should be the next Tutorial out. The Highlanders should be fun, looking forward to getting my hands on some, I don’t think the tartan will be too bad, at this scale it’s more about creating and impression of it rather than the minute details.

Great idea with the colours (flags). Brit infantry in the Peninsula had Stovepipe Shakos with the plumes at the front like the Light Infantry Shakos. Whereas the later uniforms had the Belgic Shako with plumes on the left side of the Shako. Unfortunately you can’t buy light infantry sprue’s separately. This would solve 2 small problems, 1). The Fusilier Battalions, (most importantly the Welsh Fusiliers) had the elite company wings on their shoulders as did the Light infantry. 2). Fusilier Battalions had drummers not buglers. I don’t know without looking through my British uniform book(s) although I will need them shortly. On the bright side you could use a scalpel for the the removal of the plumes and to level the top of the Shako, leaving a small amount in the centre to replace the plume. If it looks not quite right build it up with liquid filler. As an aside I’m wondering what some of these bases would look like fore a sharp practice game but using a roster to track damage. 40 Figures in 2 ranks for a company.(that’s almost 1 to 1).

I’m totally with you on the uniforms, I’d have loved earlier uniforms. When the rumours and leaks stared to filter through back in the autumn I talked a bit of videos about being torn around what era to do, I love Peninsula, but understood why they did 100 days. That’s partly why I went late Peninsula rather than early, as while I know the 1812 issued uniform hadn’t really made its way to Spain in any great number, I at least knew it existed by the time I was planning, and some of it may have made its way over either via resupply of equipment or replacement troops. How much so, who knows, and it really depends on what source you read. Warlord initially said they had no intention at all of ever releasing Stovepipe Shako troops, but I think - going on more recent interviews/comments - that it’s at least something they might consider in the future should it all continue to sell well. I certainly hope they do, I’d definitely buy them. I’ve definitely considered painting the ranked Rifle troops as redcoats, and might give that a go, the sword bayonets stand out a little I guess, but think they will look fine once painted. I’ve very tempted to try and convert a battalion as you’ve suggested, not sure I’d do many though, once on the table I think most of the impact could be achieved with just painting the trousers a mix of white and patched brown cheap Spanish material. Love the idea of using them for Sharp Practice like you’ve said, would be fun to represent a battalion 1:1.

I was looking at my work bench while you were going on about flags and thought could you use the smallest plastic tips for brushes we get ? Too Short ? Or a Brass tube of a small size to slide over the original ( i got no idea if its possible but the idea is there ) . Make finials from a modelling clay mold and Green stuff

I like that idea of the plastic tubing, would certainly make them last longer and more robust.

I think that as you alluded to generals could either wear their old regimental uniform, a formal general officer uniform which as far as I can see had dark blue facings or get away with doing whatever they wanted wearing what was basically civilian clothing as per Wellington and Picton. I've seen generals with grey cavalry overalls or white or buff coloured breeches so either would work. Remember at Waterloo some may have come straight from the Duke of Richmond's ball! With regards to this see wikipedia entry on Charles Alten who was a KGL general in the Peninsula and Waterloo for a picture of him: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles,_Count_Alten As part of your tutorial on the Rifles in close order are you thinking of painting up a few bases as another red-coated light infantry unit? the most obvious example is the 52nd who had an illustrious history in both the Peninsula and at Waterloo. Making a full regiment of these would involve somehow moving ensigns across from the main infantry set as the red-coated battalions carried kings and regimental colours as per the normal line units. Which means perhaps not a head-swap but a torso-swap?

Thank you for this Mike, what I thought might be the case, and very useful. This is the first link I’ve seen in the comments that KZbin hasn’t auto deleted the whole comment for as well, the comment has usually gone before I can reply. 😂 The Rifles tutorial just covers rifles now, but I will definitely cover ‘painting conversions’ in later videos. I’ll likely convert flag bearers from the Rifles each side, or just cut up a normal command strip, depending on the unit.

The only thing I now want to know is when do the pre orders start being delivered. I am sure this is all great for those who ran out and bought WI for thhe free frame but I have nothing as yet to work on so I am marking all these videos as 'watch later'.

That’s fair enough, I really do realise how lucky I have been to receive review stock. As far as I’m aware they’re close to shipping, overseas ship first as they have further to travel, then UK. End of the month is the release date I think, it’s always a Saturday I think, so officially in shops from 29th, with pre-orders shipping over the days/week before that, so not too much longer to wait.

Great project and an excellent choice in picking an actual french force to depict. If you are representing the army of Portugal at battalion level as opposed to regimental, the french regiments are multi battalion unlike most British, usually 2, sometimes 3 battalions fielded together with the first carrying the eagle and the others with fanions. The nafziger oobsfor spain give the following battalions per regt at this time- 1,2 for the units in 4th div (so each brigade has 4 bttns) and 1,4 for the 118th and 119th line and 122nd line and 1,2,4 for 120th line so one brigade would have 4 units and the other 5. Makes for nice brigade sizes for gameplay. There are also several (2 or 3) foor batteries and one horse battery in the army reserve.

Thank you for this, really appreciate it. When I was editing I suddenly had the thought that they were likely multi battalion regiments, so thank you for not only clarifying, but also checking the details for me.

@@MiniatureRealms no worries. Really like your project. Peninsula oobs are notorious for missing batteries out too- especially for the French. Even as late as this campaign some french batteries were making do with 4 pdrs while most others had old school 8pdrs- the more modern artillery park being used in Russia and Germany. No 12pdrs either.
