It would be really great if you, Jake, Mark or Jacob (Maybe even all of you) would make a "ton" of Epic American Civil War battle's report's, there are only a minimum of them out there .🤷‍♀ So there's definitely an opportunity to get some more "customers" to the channel on that account ...🙏 Many thanks for showing and please keep up the good work

My first table top game was Napoleonic and was hooked ever since. Haven't played in decades so I really enjoy this channel's content, especially battle reps of course.

Forage Caps is the main hat the union soldier wore that was issued. There was the Hardee Hat as well and of course the civilian hat. Confederates wore Kepis along with civilian head gear. Thank you for the unboxing. As I have tons of 15 mm ACW I won’t be wasting my money on this. But that’s my opinion.

Some day Warlords is going to learn to put their rulebooks in wrappers so they do not get chewed up by sprues. Have the same issue when I order loose sprues and rule books from them. They stuff it all in the same box and almost always the book is damaged. As for the hats, just trim the brims on the yanks. Not difficult but takes a bit of time. Well worth the effort though (did it with my free sprue with the magazine). You will also find Kallistra brand figs work well with this scale. Got my cav and spare officers before Warlords came out with the second wave. They also have dead and wounded packs to use for fatigue markers. Last thing is on the base sprue, it is 6 infantry, 1 arty, and TWO Officer bases.

Can you get by without that supplemental book? I thought the rules would be a completely different book to normal black powder. Couldn’t make out much other than scenarios in there, movement etc.

It took me about 2 hours to trim all the hats to kepis on the 10 ranks of one union sprue. I'm not looking forward to doing it to 11 more sprues. It would have made more sense to me if warlord had molded 5 ranks on each sprue with all kepis, and 5 mixed. That way you could easily make all kepi units if you want, and Warlord could have stuck with using a single mold for the sprue.

totally agree. That's what they should have done, but I guess they were really sold on the grey and blue sprues

I have 28mm ACW but have considered buying this set since it will allow for much larger scale battles. I share your concern about the kepis, though given the production issues I can see why they just used the same sculpts. I'd be very interested to hear about how easy it is to convert the hats to kepis.

Sharp Xacto and a few minutes to carefully trim. Not difficult at all and the crowns seem to be the same on both hats so looks good. Done 2 sprues from the magazine release already, waiting for he box now.

They look pretty cool and you get a lot of figures for a very reasonable price. My problem is that I already have a lot of 15mm ACW based for Johnny Reb. I really like Johnny Reb 2/3 rules which, to me, feel very realistic. I'm not sure I want to invest in another ACW game with different rules and figure basing! I'd be very interested in your opinion on how the rules play compared to other rules systems like Johnny Reb, and whether you can use figures you already have. Thanks.

I'm familiar with Black Powder so I can answer that. You can use whatever basing system you already have though obviously it helps if it's consistent across your collection. Black Powder is designed to be fairly generic so lacks some of the substance of more specific systems like Johnny Reb but it is easy to learn and plays fast

Is there enough cap battle lines to break them up into two armies, caps vs. brimmed hats, ignoring the color of the plastics?

Not really, the troops come in 10 man strips with a mix of hats. You can but them up and mix them but I find trimming the brimmed hats with an exacto knife seems to work better.

Hi Jon have you tried again yet we have been playing in 28 mm but I saw at my local game store they are offering this box for 160 bucks I was wondering if be worth it let me know what you think

It's up to you, If you already play at 28mm I would ask myself what going to a smaller scale would mean and how it would impact your collection.

I don’t get it. How does a new war gamer get excited about the upcoming battles when no soldiers are in battle poses. Everybody is just at shoulder arms. Must just be me.
