Fantastic job! The mixing of the Apothecary White and Gryph Charger Grey for the gun carriage is brilliant. I've been using the Contrasts for almost three years, but actually mixing Contrast colors is one thing I never really ventured into. I didn't think it would work very well, but you show here it can be very effective if you choose the right colors to mix.
@MiniatureRealms3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mike. Contrast is like any other paint really, each colour is different in its viscosity and the way it behaves when mixed and thinned. Just trial and error really.

Another Fantastic tutorial and greatly appreciated. I have the British Army Painting War publication and found the guide for the cannon chassis came out really well. Used the Vallejo model colour guide. Basecolour was 862 Black grey and the graining highlight colour was 994 dark grey. Metal parts very much in line with what you did Stuart.

Thank you 😊. Those greys seem quite dark, but I’m really no expert, that’s just based on a few internet searches on the colour and Osprey books 😂

Great job Stuart. Interesting poll this passed weekend on the wargames Atlantic fb page. Topic new scale. Warlord games was mentioned. I'm sure I've read a post or email from Wargames Atlantic that they had a joint venture with a well known UK manufacturer. But for the life of me can't find the ruddy article 😕. Speculation at this point. But could it be? 🤔 after all WA has a new factory up and running in the USA and logic suggest that a joint business venture makes common sense. We'll have to wait and see. I have access to both companies products here in NZ Product is a bit more expensive but postage is a lot cheaper, and delivery time is a couple of days instead of the usual 4-6 weeks.
@MiniatureRealms3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Stephen. I saw the WA poll, would be great if they filled a gap that WLG weren’t able to do for a while. They tend to do single boxes rather than ranges, so would be difficult for them to say For example, ‘fill the gap and do Russians’, as they the number of releases would be huge, and I don’t see the point in doing an infantry sprue if there was still no way to get Cavalry and Guns etc. However, I could see a Peninsula British sprue working if WLG didn’t do it for example, little one offs like that would sell I think. I haven’t seen that other article you mention, but having the ability to manufacture in different countries may well help the issues we’re seeing with global shipping. I guess if a range is manufactured overseas, the projected sales in those markets would have to stand up to the extra cost involved in tooling for the plastic production, will be interesting to see what happens.
@stephenmarsh88213 жыл бұрын
Stuart. Wargames Atlantic has a warehouse in Australia, USA, and EU/UK. The problem with WA is having too many pies (ranges) and not enough fingers (sculptors dedicated to completing a range before moving on to a new project).
@MiniatureRealms3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can see that being a problem for them, and imagine it’s harder to find freelance sculptors who work in CAD in the historical market (that’s a guess though, could be way off there).

Very nice, try flank companies and foot artillery
@MiniatureRealms2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The flank companies are covered in the Infantry tutorial (mostly part 2), at this scale with these models it’s just 6 men on the end of each flank, and they’re on the same stands/strip as normal troops so you have to look close to see them. I’ll likely do the foot artillery at some point, a lot of similarities with these though, so a lot is transferrable from this one.

Crikey. For much of the vid, I was wondering when you were going to paint in the woodwork of the gun in the usual British ordnance blue-grey. I thought your initial effort left the wheel far too light. How wrong could I be! On the final model it looked absolutely spot on. Just the right brightness to represent painted wood at that tiny scale.

At this scale, the finishing touch of gold highlight that Stewart does on the cannon barrels is hugely important. At tabletop height, looking down on these models, that gold highlight puts a "bright line" on the barrel. When you see a lot of cannon lined up in a battery, your eye will pick up on that gold line on the tops of the barrels as your eye scans them, and make the whole artillery battery "pop" when viewing them from above. It's a very subtle thing, but in this small of a scale makes a huge difference to the massed aesthetic of numerous cannons lined up for battle.

Thanks for the videos you are doing. They are helping to secure my confidence in this foray into Napoleonics and epic scale, coming from AOS, 40K and Star Wars Legion I was dubious of painting at this scale but these guides are helping temper that down. I will be attempting the grey seer followed by a heavy Praxeti white dry brush from your other video. For the gun you’ve left a lot of black on the end, should I be applying a black to the end of the gun before painting with the rune lord brass, or will grey be fine? For your black metal what’s the closest citadel paint for that, I’ve found a few conversion charts but they don’t have all the colours. Thanks
@MiniatureRealms3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words, I enjoy recording them, and it’s nice to hear they’re helpful too. The only reason I left it a little black was that I didn’t need the white pre-highlight as I was painting a flat metallic colour over the top, so don’t worry too much either way if you’re using metals there. I’d say Iron Warriors or Leadbelcher

@MiniatureRealms3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. No I don’t think there’s any difference in rules between the guns, there’s range differences for Horse and Foot Artillery (among others), and Smoothbore/Rifled etc, but nothing for the distinction between 6/9/12pdr.

Brilliant video. Great to see the Contrasts getting used so extensively, they are such a time saver IMO. What green do you plan on using for the French Dragoons and line Lancers? I'm currently figuring Creed Camo as it's not too bright and can be highlighted. Did you try / consider using yellow in lieu of the gold at all? Yours looks good but whenever I try gold in quantity on 15mm figures, especially when I want it to contrast well against a colour like blue, it's always turned out a bit meh. For that reason I was actually considering using Nazdreg or even Iyanden yellow and then highlighting with Flash Glitz yellow. The Arianrhod Blue is a nice colour, sadly not easy to get in this part of the world. Have you tried any of the Vallejo blues that might be suitable? I was planning on highlighting French infantry with Prussian blue (but that might change after I watch your Votigeur video LOL, next up). Plan to take a close look at the Army Painter speed paints too, see what's suitable in that range. From what I've seen they are getting good reviews, cheaper than Contrasts and better bottles too IMO.
@MiniatureRealms2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ade 😊 I’ve not decided on the green yet, Creed Camo is definitely a possibility, Dark Angels is a potential as I have a system that works for the rifles, I’m going to test Militarum as well. Yes I’ve used a bit of yellow in the British Heavy Dragoons I’m playing around with, I expect I’ll mix it up a bit. Luckily Scale 75 Golds are very strong and easy to use, so will all depend on the way it looks for each model. I’ve not tried too many Vallejo blues, just because I have so many of other brands, I expect I will try some at some point.
@joeswift4033 жыл бұрын
I might have missed this in one of the previous videos, but are the wheel diameters over the three sprues identical? If so there's some scope to mix and match the crews right? With appropriate head swaps for between the horse and non-horse artillery variants. My understanding from a historical point of view was that the same mountings were used, I'm just not sure that the wheels were the same if that makes sense?
@MiniatureRealms3 жыл бұрын
Totally makes sense, I had the same thought of mixing and matching the RHA as they’re different sculpts on the Heavy Vs the Light Cavalry sprues. However…the 6pdr on the light Cav sprue is smaller, including the wheels.

Yes each artillery piece comes on a sprue with other models, infantry as well etc. warlord provide a sprue of bases for each one of these, they have 6 bases for infantry, two for commanders, and one for the artillery piece.

I was hoping for a British infantry giveaway with WI but the cavalry was given. I did comment that I didn’t want to spend £25.00 for a box of infantry then not use them, but sadly nothing so after my initial planning on how to get the command in front of the battalion. However without the test frame I won’t bother and Cary on with 10 mm or 18mm either way my old Mini Figs strip 15mm won’t be used.

Hi Leon, thank you for watching. Yes remember your comment and replying to it, sadly I don’t think anyone at Warlord Games would be reading the comments on my videos, however they are giving away an infantry sprue with February’s edition of WI (so the one that comes out the end of this month), but I think that was planned all along as I’m sure they have to plan months ahead.
