Only a genius like Jeff Rolka would be smart enough to put up a warm down video . I always questioned why and what for is a warm down exercise and how important is it . As you mentioned your a runner and I have noticed you are in great shape Jeff Rolka, I've never seen ironically a video on warming down after running. Running by far is the greatest exercise for vocalist .How important is it to warm down ?

Thank you so much for your comment! I have to admit, I didn't used to think too much about warming down for voice, but the more that I sang, the more it helped to focus my voice and mind at the end of the day, so here we are! Enjoy the videos and enjoy the channel in general! Thanks for being here! Jeff

Such bliss! Must try the outer octaves in tomorrow’s warm-up. I love to squeeze a P4 descent and M3 ascent between key areas - so smooth 🙏

Hi Jeff, I've only heard about cool-downs recently, and yours sound to me the simplest and more straightforward. Thanks a lot! And I'm curious, what makes for a cool-down. Is it the descending of the notes in the exercise? Because I noticed that contrary to warm-ups which tends to go up (like 1-3-5-8, and then they repeat while gradually travelling to the right side of the piano), these cool-downs seem to go the other way round. Even your second exercise is travelling to the left. Is my understanding correct?

Yes! I'd say you have it mostly figured out. The idea is to settle down into our thyroarytenoid dominant singing voice (chest voice) in a gentle but focused way, hence the use of the /i/ vowel. We want to get back to neutral phonation so we're ready for tomorrow. Best! Jeff

Great explanation! And what's special about the /i/ vowel?
