This video has such a calming and classic feel to it. Thank you! Watching before a local weekly tournament and had already planned to show up a little early and hit the range. Great video!

Thankyou. Hope it makes a difference in the first 5 holes and you go on to a good round. Best of luck. Simon

Looks good to me Simon, the problem as I see it, is if people take your advice they will get better and make them more difficult for you to beat. Keep swinging. Ron

One of the best video series can be found in the search "pre-round warm-up routine pga". Without a warming up big part of the round will feel alien. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

I don't understand not trying to give yourself a decent chance. I can't go to the 1st tee and just go. I play rubbish if I do.

great tip about not starting with the wedges. most courses i go to dont have a practice range so all i can do is warm up the short game around the chipping green
@thehairygolfer4 ай бұрын
I don't know why but if I start with a wedge I hit shanks. But they have too much loft to show your faults anyway. Well, at least a chip is a short golf swing. Should still help you find your grip for the day, if I get stuck in traffic I still try to do some chipping. Cheers

David, I remember a club championship. 36 holes over 2 days. I walked onto the practice ground and I was the only one there on saturday morning and the same on sunday morning. I find it quite bizarre. I prepare for a video the same way as a club championship. If I'm recording on saturday then this week I will play and practice until I'm certain that on saturday I can go and hit the shots I'm talking about. If I'm doing a chipping video on the course then I will practice it.

@@davidwalters313 A friend of mine got 6 lessons from his Wife for a Christmas present. I asked him how the practice was going and he said he wasn't practicing. Waste of money. He didn't improve one iota. Never tried. I don't know why.

Excellent advice Simon. Yes, I always try to warm up, and chips and pitches are a large part of it, as are 4ft putts (the logic of which is entirely thanks to your advice - but it works so much better than any other method I've tried as you "groove" the sound of the ball falling into the hole!). Really useful video with some great advice!!!!
@thehairygolfer5 ай бұрын
I will use a net if nothing else is available but you can't see the ball flight. But you can 'feel' it and have some idea of what you are doing. I've tried the 'listen for the rattle' on short putts and I miss them all left if I don't move my head to look at the hole. Strange that.

Good advice Simon. Helps enormously if you actually enjoy the practice.

A lot don't like doing any practice whatsoever Stuart. Then they wonder why they drop 8 shots in the first 5 holes and go onto shoot another 94 just like they did 10 years ago. I don't understand people who don't realise that shooting a lower score is more enjoyable. Perhaps I'm the one who has it wrong?

Very , good advice , warm up the brain and the muscle memory especially if it is fifty quid a round and three quid a ball

I don't quite understand the get out of the car and go to the 1st tee and then wonder why you're playing the same crap as last week. I recken 2% warm up. Odd when it costs so much to play.

@@thehairygolfer absolutely, makes perfect sense , when I was a club runner I always warmed up that was a few bellies ago , though 😁

I would warm up more if had the facilities. Our putting green is nothing like the greens on the course. I do some 54 degree chipping onto onto onto it and some tiny short putts. I shot 40 points with a 77 at the weekend my best score off tge whites. Came 2nd to someone who has 3 cards counting to his handicap, I feel slightly robbed...
@thehairygolfer5 ай бұрын
Putting greens can be at odds with the course. The worst I know is Minchinhampton, the putting green is like glass but the real greens are normal speed. 40 points? That's a cracker of a round to shoot 77. And the guy who beat you probably shot 91. Welcome to my world!
@aslkdfjasdlkj42435 ай бұрын
40 mins seems a bit long for most people. You are very dedicated to your craft which is commendable. I'm amazed you never got down to scratch at one point. Do you think it was technique or the mental game? Or maybe something else? Looking forward to seeing some away day course vlogs this season. Either way it's great to have you posting twice a week again.
@thehairygolfer5 ай бұрын
40 minutes is nothing. But it's more than most people will put in. I want to do the best I can. If I made no effort I'd be a 12 handicap still. Why didn't I get to scratch? I started too late and then I didn't take it seriously until 1995. I was off 14 then and a good round made me try harder. I got to single figures in 1998. Plus I've had so many injuries that set me back. My neck is ruined and it stiffens and I lose my swing. Still have it. Part of the problem with getting the handicap down was the course I was playing. It was a par 72 with a scratch of 71 and virtually all summer the competition scratch was 70. It's hard to get your handicap down when you need to shoot 2 under just to shoot 'par'. I had days when I would have a good round and still got a 0.1 back on my handicap because of the competition scratch. It's hard going out knowing yo uhave to do very well to get cut. So some mental issues for sure. But I believe those mental issues were driving by the course rating. I really wasn't good enough and too old really. I'm too old now! I think I can hang around 5/6 a few years longer. Cheers
