Thanks for the video. This certainly gives one aspect to the comparison. But … could you also do some sort of comparison on the torque/power of the winch. Lower gear ratio usually means faster, but sacrifices power. Would like to see if the higher gear ratio (slower) winches have more power?

You had a big part of my winch making decision

Higher (numerically) means slower line speed and more pulling power. All things being equal,such as motor hp,amp pull,ect. Comparing a 12,000 winch to a 10,000 winch is really meangless. You count on your winch for pulling power, not rewind line speed.

I agree, buts it’s hard test the pulling power with 5 winches without proper equipment and setup. That being said, Most people never get to use their winch and if you winch a lot like We do especially Snowwheeling, having a slow no-load winch line is very frustrating and line speed could be an important factor when buying a winch.

Do you think the APEX Badland 12,000 winch is worth buying $479.00 ? And are they reliable ?
@4x2WagonFamily3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know. But i would fully test it out on the trail and return it if you don’t like it within 90 days:)

Great video! Interesting to see Tru compared results.Love the kids involved as well. Can you do noise level and temperature comparison as well?

I don't care about line speed I was hoping for a comparison on the durability / dependability and pulling power of the winches.
@4x2WagonFamily3 жыл бұрын
If you winch a lot line speed should be important. Testing the durability and dependability is difficult. I would say that most wench works great, so then it come down to line speed in about out.

@@4x2WagonFamily You have a point but most people will not be doing a lot of winching.

If you want reliable and longevity go with a warn. I don’t care about speed as long as it’s reliable and gets the job done for years to come. Smittybilt has some good winches but longevity in my opinion seems to be lacking… most I see people are replacing 5 or so years. Most I see on the warn is 10 plus years. Other then those 2 brands I cannot comment.

Not shocked at all. As a JEEP enthusiast you should understand the speed/gear ratio scales. You ALLWAYS sacrifice speed for power when you increase gear ratio. I bought a Chinese winch for my dump trailer to pull in skid steers that are not running. The 12K winch will not pull an 8K machine into the trailer, it broke the housing on the second time we tried it. A friend with a self recovery Warn 10K on the front of his F350, parked in front of the trailer and pulled the machine into the trailer for us. So a 10K Warn did the job that a 12K Harbor freight grenaded on. I don't care to save the minute ....... I will settle for doing the job it was purchased for, hell it can take 15min as long as it works. Tell me how well your jeep climbs with a 3.08axle compared to Jeep crawlers 5.38axle but that crawler is way slower than the 3.08 and gets horrible mileage with a top speed of 55-58mph redlined
