I've always thought that Jane's addiction does a nearly perfect job of capturing the ambiguity of drug use/drug addiction. Let's be honest, parts of it are really fun (this is part of why we get started) and parts of it really, really suck and destroy our lives. Jane's Addiction really does capture both sides of it, and made me see that moderation was the path that kept you from being either too bored or too self -destructive.

I think it's the guy who raises his leg and twirls it. Ow. That's impressive to me now in my '40s.

"Been Caught Stealing" appeared on Jane's Addiction's 1990 album, Ritual de lo Habitual. It was No. 1 on Billboard's U.S. Modern Rock Chart for 4 weeks and the band's most commercially successful song. The instantly recognizable intro features a dog barking. According to front-man Perry Farrell, that wasn't premeditated. He brought his recently rescued pound puppy to the recording studio because she didn't like being left alone and when he was trying to record vocals in the booth she began barking because she didn't want to be separated from him. They had some pretty good audio clips of Annie barking so they decided to mix that in and let her "sing" at the beginning of the song. The humorous video was extremely popular and of course made its rounds on MTV. It was directed by Perry's then girlfriend, Casey Niccoli, who also appears in the video for "Classic Girl". It won best Alternative Music Video at the MTV Video Music Awards and appeared as No.47 on a list of the all time greatest music videos compiled by VH1. Stealing is wrong, boys and girls... Don't steal but listen to this song. 🤨

I think the only thing I ever stole like from a store was this really nice African coffee back in my college years. There was a certain glory to it.

this video was filmed by my uncles house at a local market in on washington blvd in LA/Venice CA called Royal Market, I used to walk there as a kid to buy candy and cap guns. it closed not long after this video came out and was torn down and they built a 99 cents store in its place.
