I was at BYU when many of his powerful talks were heard about communism. As a youth I read many books written by those who had escaped from communist countries. Patrols would tare apart homes hunting for Bibles or religious materials. Offenders were killed not to mention what happened to their families and associated. As teenagers we were terrified of communism and it's horrors. I am 74 so as a child we played with WWII toys. Soldiers, Jeeps, and you name it. Let's all pray and repent daily to avoid the curtain to not smother out our Constitutional freedoms.

The counsel given by Ezra Taft Benson has been largely ignored, and because of this, both America and the Church are in danger, as foretold by the Book of Mormon. Do you think this is all just crazy talk? Consider what happened to the Church in America before Christ visited. While it’s true that the gospel will not be taken from the earth as promised, how many of the saints will remain faithful if the consequences for not take seriously the new and everlasting covenant which is the Book of Mormon continue to be realized? It’s no wonder that Ezra Taft Benson did everything he could to encourage the Saints to read and study the Book of Mormon. It was Heber C. Kimball who worried that a test-a great test-was coming. Is this not the period of testing he warned the Saints about?
@rugburn47832 ай бұрын
@@TheWordsofChrist Yes I think this is the exact period of testing Bro Kimball warned about. The Church will go through a sifting, and many will fall away. While I have tried to follow President Benson's counsel about the Book of Mormon, I fear I too have to a degree fallen into the trap of not taking it seriously enough. I am trying to redouble my study of it and liken it to myself, my family, and our time. From what I read, I am thinking we are about to enter a period of war, likely throughout the world. @TheWordsofChrist2 ай бұрын
I would not question the Lord on this point, as He is perfect and does not make mistakes. President Nelson is undoubtedly the man the Lord has called for our day. It is highly likely that Ezra T. Benson would be heartbroken if he were here today to see how little the saints have followed the sound counsel the Lord impressed upon him to share with us. President Nelson bears the weight, with the Lord’s help, that President Benson warned us about, hoping to help us avoid what we are now witnessing unfold before our eyes. While you and I may have different approaches, the Lord knows exactly which man needs to be in place at the right time. President Nelson has given the saints and followers additional time to repent, turn to the Lord, and make the temple covenants required to bless the people of the earth. I am grateful that Russell M. Nelson is still with us today, and I hope we are granted a little more time to follow the counsel he has given us as directed by the Lord. This testing has only just begun for the saints and all faithful followers of Christ on the earth!

We need what the Lord has given us. President Nelson is exactly what we need right now. The Lord knows what he is doing. Why would you say we need something different than what God has given to us? He, the Lord, sees the end from the beginning. President Benson isn't saying anything different than what president Nelson is saying. Read what president Nelson says, read what our apostles are saying. What president Nelson is saying and doing is meant for us in our times, take head to those words.

This is hardly relevant in our present day.. The threat of communism was greatly exaggerated even at the time Benson gave this politically inspired talk. If there's anything we should be worried about is the rise of neo fascism and ethno-nationalism that is on the rise, not just in some countries, but all across the globe.
@TheWordsofChrist2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your perspective. It’s important to consider the context of statements made by leaders and prophets, as well as how their teachings might still be relevant today. Ezra Taft Benson, a former President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, did indeed address concerns about communism in his teachings. His warnings were rooted in a broader principle of vigilance against ideologies that oppose the freedoms and values upheld in the gospel. He stated, “We should remember that communism is not just a political system but a philosophy and religion which is opposed to the principles of freedom and democracy. It’s not just the government that’s important but the principles that government represents.” (Ezra Taft Benson, "The Red Carpet," 1966). While the context has evolved, the underlying principle remains relevant: the need to stay alert and discerning about any ideology or movement that might undermine freedoms and moral values. In our present day, concerns about neo-fascism and ethno-nationalism are indeed significant. These ideologies can pose threats to the principles of liberty and equality that are important in a just society. As President Benson warned, it’s essential to be vigilant about any ideology that seeks to erode these values, regardless of its form. Modern prophets continue to emphasize the importance of standing firm in our values and principles. President Gordon B. Hinckley once said, “We are not a church of politics, but we are a church of principles. And we ought to stand for the things that are right.” (Gordon B. Hinckley, "The Great Things Which God Has Revealed," 2005). This advice is timeless and applies to current global issues, encouraging us to focus on righteous principles and act in ways that promote justice and peace. It may also be valuable to study the historical ideologies that have influenced political systems, including communism. Understanding the roots of such ideologies can offer insight into their impact on societies throughout history and how they have shaped political and social structures. Based on your comment, I would strongly recommend reading "Live Not By Lies" by Rod Dreher. This book explores the historical context and present-day implications of various ideologies, including those that have historically challenged freedoms and moral values. In conclusion, while the specific geopolitical threats may have shifted, the call to be aware and stand against ideologies that conflict with our values remains pertinent. The teachings of past and current leaders remind us to uphold principles of freedom, justice, and morality, irrespective of the specific challenges we face. If you have further questions or wish to discuss this topic more, I’d be happy to engage in a thoughtful conversation. Thank you again for your insights.
