@@yami2828 get an MRI to see if there is disc bulging and nerve impingement. If not, get a doppler/ultrasound to see if there is blockage or narrowing of leg arteries. Leg heaviness and fatigue are symptoms of blockage or severe narrowing.

I had experienced this. got rolled into the ER with this exact pain down both legs. Seemingly normal 30 yr. old with extreme pain with no trauma accident. I was in tears asking for an MRI and was denied because I wasn't in a traumatic event. I called my ortho & told his staff what was going on & they immediately ordered an MRI. There it was, sitting soo pretty was a HUGE bulge at L5-S1. Because of some other health issues & medication, the bulge receeded. After I was taken off the medication, it swelled back up so I had another ortho visit. He ordered another MRI & got my insurance to approve it. I had surgery to correct it. When I stood up after surgery, I cried because the pain was FINALLY GONE.

I'm so happy for you. I, too, had this experience when I was in my 30s many years ago, but fortunately my family doctor sent me to a neurosurgeon who told me if it were him, he'd be on the operating table. I cried but immediately scheduled my surgery. It wasn't an easy rehab, but I, too, cried for the relief after surgery. So glad you are out of pain. Only those who've experienced the intense pain of this can fully understand the relief. Be well 🙏

I didn’t get surgery but I am having trouble exercising to help heal I’m in pain most days but I can walk thank god. My mental isn’t there and feel like the healing process could be going better still can’t lift much and other days I walk with a cane and wear a back brace. Any tips on getting motivated to do stretches?
@aaronchyea
@aaronchyea 6 ай бұрын
@@amandabrown9387 From my experience any amount of stretching actually made the pain and symptoms worse. Seeing a good physiotherapist, lots of rest, nerve flossing and basic walking were what got me on the road to recovery. The long term works becomes addressing the postural/physical imbalances that caused the disc to bulge in the first place.

I am 54. When I was 25 woke up with severe excruciating pain- dr gave me meds said rest- 2 nights later woke up pain changed to numb like then in am had trouble "closing" when I went to urinate- dr sent me to er- went mri then straight into surgery- Cauda Equina- happened again 6 months later- 1 more surgery 2 years later due to myelogram findings - life changed forever- but could have been worse- still have nerve damage and pain - now have severe deg. disc dis and severe spinal stenosis - dr says 2 rods min 12 screws needed through several surgeries not guaranteed to work. I am crooked- have trouble standing at times- or walking any distance-. I am alone and can't go through that surgery now- just trying to keep teaching 1.5 yrs and retire- Are there any groundbreaking therapies or advances? Thank you for showing this- I pray no one else has to go through this but if they do- should NEVER delay contacting dr. I am despondent about my future at this point- so sick of pain. I have an intrathecal pain pump and am trying ablation in next month- its all so scary. I do Pt, accupuncture, needling, cupping, only med that works is baclofen and it knocks me for a loop even at lowest dose. My MRI results are frightening and have recently had spinal "collapse"- now 2 inches shorter. People should appreciate and maintain spinal health- and understand possible devastating consequences if they don't. Cauda equina damage can be irreversible. I wish there was some hope. Thanks again- people need to know how serious this is.

Baclofen is the drug I should have been using all along, but I don't get side effects they just work & I'm getting back to my normal self again. Effects my erectile functions up until I had tapaildilf, now I'm back on the saddle. Hope you keep improving buddy, God bless 🙌 🙏

Here’s the problem… I have been in Agony for 2 weeks. I went to 3 ERs and the treatment was horrific at each. Each copay $500. They wouldn’t treat my pain. My ankle, hamstring, gluteus, and pelvis burning and pulling and felt like a bulldozer was on it. I couldn’t go to the bathroom I think because the pain is so bad. Can’t sit. My foot is swelling up. The on call doctor mocked me like I was drug seeking. Nobody would help and I was screaming in pain for days and days and days. They treated me horrible. FINALLY my outpatient MRI came back and my regular Otho doctor looked at it and had a surgeon call me within 15 minutes for emergent surgery which is Tuesday. I am utterly disgusted with the ER treatment and the suffering I endured. I can’t wait for Tuesday to get some relief. Finally yesterday the doctor prescribed a few pain pills to get me to Tuesday. So going to the ER is worthless because they won’t do anything but collect your money and watch you suffer while they roll their eyes at you.

Exactly. I was hospitalized for two days last year with my back and I was accused of being an iv drug user. Seriously I hate pain pills and I hate needles. The hospital was so ignorant to me. I'm not a candidate for surgery though so I'm supposed to just suffer for the rest of my life.

It's truly unreal how ignorant some doctors are about the pain and s/s of Lumbar disc issues. L3-L5 issues include, "Disc bulge that flattens ventral thecal sac....mild to moderate left neuroforaminal narrowing....nodules obscuring neuroforamen...even disc free fragments can be seen which almost ALWAYS presents as person UNABLE to walk on one side, as the dermatode corresponding with vertebra is affecting the LEG, calf area. One ER doctor saw an MRI that was obviously showing disc issues, including bulging disc and a 7mm herniation, and wrote it off as "arthritis." One can't explain such apathetic incompetence. Clearly, these out to lunch docs need to find a different profession. Thank God there are still some great docs out there, but lately, there seems to be an increase in imbeciles with an MD.

Im a fellow Ontarian and this video only made me very very sad about the current state of our healthcare system. I will quote my diagnosis here from my MRI results report -->"At L4-L5 level, there is disc bulge and a right paracentral disc herniation compressing the thecal sac and the right-sided traversing nerve roots." I went in MANY times to see multiple doctors and in to the emergency room and each time I get brushed off, and literally nothing has been done about it. I have the saddle paralysis when it flares up and have zero ability to walk as my right leg is useless from the knee down. Not a single plan was put in place for me as far as treatment goes other than being given fancy advil. lol im only 33. THIS SUCKS 😅

Iam on my 5th pain pump. Which used to help me, so much so I could Hit Gym Hard. Not in last 12 years due to constantly reducing pain pump medicine and my oral medicine., Specifically the last 6 years. Doctors keep blaming opioid crisis and a ton of other excuses. Stay away from stimulator if you can. I've never known a person they've helped. In fact I took a count, in a chronic pain sufferers class of how many hands, went up. People that started out with a stimulator and then had to get implant pain pump. 26 out of 32 patients had Stim first then received pump. The pump works. Most times the stim does nothing and is turned off before the pumps implanted. And if you need hip replacement on top of lower back pain. Well you're out of luck because you can not have MRI of soft tissue in hip if you have a stimulator. BC it's located above the right hip. Most times. I hope this helps someone

Back in April of 2019 I started having severe back problems between S1-L5, L4-L5, L3-L4. I went through physical therapy for 18 visits and they gave me 24 steroid shots into my spine over the course of 5 appointments. Then Covid hit and seriously delayed anymore treatments. They keep having me try every pain killer and muscle relaxer there was and nothing worked at all. I finally got the insurance company to accept me getting an MRI and after the neurologist got the results he called me up and said he just scheduled me for emergency surgery in 5 days because I was 1 of the worst cases he'd ever seen. So after 2 years of brutal torturous pain I finally got the surgery I needed and have L4-5 fused, the other 2 disc problems were resolved with physical therapy before surgery. My muscles below my shoulders atrophied so bad from laying on the couch for 23 hours a day for the 2 years before the surgery that it took another full year to recover after the surgery. It's now 2 years after the surgery and I'm now about at the strength before the problems started happening. I will still have to be careful about twisting and bending because it will wear out the joints on either side of the fused vertebrae.

Then the muscle in my right leg refused to work. My doctor paid me a home visit and did several tests. One of which was he lifted my left leg and told me to hold it. I did that without pain or any problem. When he repeated the test on my right leg it fell to the ground uncontrollably. I have had both hips replaced one of them twice. Your thoughts?

I had a laminectomy, and L4-5 spinal fusion in 2017. My symptoms had been: not being able to feel my legs and feet from the waist down (intermittently); sometimes not being able to make myself take a step up. I had no pain whatsoever! I saw an ortho doctor in 2015, who said there was nothing he could do. However, in 2017, I lucked out finding the best neurosurgeon in our region who did the surgery and totally took care of the problem. He said that if I had waited any longer, it would have been too late! The MRI showed degenerative arthritis, scoliosis, and congenital narrowing of the spinal canal.

Prior to the back pain and bilateral sciatica developing, I had sciatica in my right leg only that lasted for 8 months and was sent for an MRI which showed DDD of L4 and L5. I went into my primary care provider with these exact complaints(all 3 of them(They checked me everywhere), she sent me to the ER and they were able to get a me a MRI that day. It came up that I had this but they had not ever run into the problem with someone not being able to go pee before. They were kinda weirded out by that. They recommended Ortho, Ortho sent me to go get a EMG done. I go back in a couple of weeks to figure out what the next step. I am however walking with a cane(it is honestly hard to get around, it is extremely painful and feels like constant pressure) and there is lots of numbness and burning down both my sides of buttocks and legs and feet and also gained numbness in my feet(I have tripped& stepped on/over my feet now). I am hoping for the best. This is my first video Ive watched about this too. Thank you for the video and I hope I see more of your videos. Can you talk more about what we can or cant do? So having another MRI so we shall see. I have a lot of these symptoms. The PA at Spine doc just laughed off the disc hanging g half out. he said physical therapy but I can't do it with my feet and pain. after watching this I think I need a new doc.

I was diagnosed with lower lumbar disc bulges in L2 L3 and L4 is fragmented with a piece of that disc in my spinal canal. I can’t stand or sit for any longer than 20 minutes or I’m in pain,I’m on oxycodone for chronic pain but only a low dose which is 15 mg x twice a day. I could end up having to have back surgery to remove the piece of disc from my spinal canal if it starts to move. I’m scheduled to have a MRI soon to see if it has moved since my last x-ray. Chronic back pain is debilitating,it affects everything you do. I wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone,it’s horrible.

I definitely have all 3 of these symptoms. MRI said I have L4 L5 and L5 S1 that was over 3 years ago and pain has multiplied X10 !!! I am terrified of having surgery though, I've literally had add probably 100 about having surgery and waking up in a paraplegic. As much agony as I'm dealing with, still rather suffer, than end up in a wheelchair. What are the chances this could happen, I just want/need to hear the straight up truth, answers around the internet very hugely as always, with lots of speculation and half truth's. I would do just about anything to get rid of this pain, but losing my ability to walk is not on that list of just about anything....

I had the pain in both legs and butt. Quiet strong pain. I "cured" it by hanging from my arms so my body and legs are hanging, so the spine separates a bit and the disc bulge sank back in again. If I bend forward, it pops back out, so I never do that. It seems to heal a bit slowly, after weeks-months it's a lot better. It comes back sometimes if I bend forward or lift and I have to start over. I hope everyone takes care of their spines, it's really bad when things like this happens. I have to think about this all the time and it can break esialy, I will have this problems for the rest of my life.

My appts can’t come quick enough to calm me 😞 on my cat scan it said moderate diffuse disc bulge versus medium sized central disc herniations are evident at L4-5 and L5-S1. There is no compression fracture or listhesis. Mild levocurvature present. I’m almost afraid to move around. Yesterday I sat to long and my belly and waist swelled up. Most surgeons will push for Physical therapy first. Before and after surgery. So You def want to keep moving. Use the heating pad, it helps heal and loosen your muscles. If severe chiropractor will not help nor will you want someone adjusting you when you are in pain. Well wishes...Spine Surgery is a Neurosurgeons specialty. Always get more than one opinion. Pain management shots are a temporary fix to sooth the pain. Check into a laminectomy a procedure my surgeon is doing. Not fusion in lumbar I'm Well wishes...Good luck

I have MRI's, x-rays, and CT scans of my spine. I have a total knee replacement in my left knee that increased the length of my left thigh and raised my left hip by 10 mm. Herniation on my left side of L5-S1, pain shooting down both legs and numbness the more I walk. Went to the ER and they sent me home because I have Medicaid and with all the testing I've had and told that surgery could help, not a single doctor will help. My saddle is numb as well. The doctors that installed my left total knee incorrectly and has burning for 14 years are the doctors that work for the ER in our town. That facility has denied any problems for every visit as it is workers compensation and WC has sabotaged or denied any hospital in our state to see me.

So I was in a serious accident in February. I have a bulge L4and L5. I have continously pain in my lower back and butt area. I get occasional pains in my left left for sure. My right leg is more complicated. I don't know if it hurts from its injury, tendon tears, sprains, and bone marrow edema, or if it's nerve pain from the back. I'm working with a specialist for my ankle currently and will be seeing one for my back soon. I have been having major issues with my cycle since the accident. It causes me tremendous pain and continues to show up later each cycle since the accident. This month is 5 days late. Which is very unlike me. I was very regular prior to this. Being a day late was uncommon for me. I still have the pain that comes from my cycle but no cycle. I am also struggling with constipation of an on. I don't struggle with going pee or holding it so much as I have a uncomfortable feeling while going. I kept wondering at first if I had a UTI; but it wasn't the case. And still isn't. Could this be related to this syndrome? Would it affect my periods in this way? Is it normal that having my cycle makes my back and leg pain 10× worse?

Hello. Sorry for the late reply on this. You are asking a lot of good questions. The nerves of the lumbar spine feed into the pelvic organs and legs. Any one of these organs can be affected with lumbar spine alignment distortions and / or disc bulges. Hopefully things are better now. It is best you get checked by your doctor and also a corrective care chiropractor who can assess your spinal alignment.

I'm in the US and our health care stinks. I was diagnosed with DDD almost 4 years ago in my entire spine. 3years ago I was having some upper thoracic pain and I nobody took me seriously. Fast forward to last year(2022). Grade 1 spondylolisthesis at L4 L5 and degeneration. Saw a neurosurgeon in July. Did 5 weeks of PT and was told fusion surgery when I quit smoking. I couldn't afford to take the time off of work so I continued smoking. Feb this year, pain was getting worse. Had an MRI and had 2 herniations at L2 L3 and L3 L4. uncovered disc at L4 L5 but only mild compression. By Oct I had bilateral sciatica with intense numbing from the waist down and I can't move my legs till it eases up. I also noticed I was having saddle anesthesia and some bowel leakage. I've been to 3 Emergency Rooms and my Primary Care DR. I've had 1 MRI and ! CT. They both still say mild compression and nobody is concerned about the saddle anesthesia. I do have mild thecal sac indentation at the T11 T12 and the T12 L1. I just wish somebody cared about my quality of life. I've had to stop working(added stress, so still smoking), and I very rarely leave my house. I am in so much pain just making a pbj sandwich. I have not even been sent to pain management. I'm taking OTC BC powders arthritis strength. And they just ain't working.

You're at rest. When you up moving all day you keeping it moving. Instead at rest when it starts to get stiff. Use a heating pad found that helps. Place a pillow under your knees. Well wishes

Probably hardware pain from the fusions, can sometimes be removed.. Could also be facet pain, or adjacent segment disease (the disc above the fusions)

Hello. I am sorry to hear about what you are going through. I can not comment about surgery. Discuss that with your medical doctor. You can also look into physiotherapy and/or chiropractic for non-surgical conservative treatment options as well.

What if there is a tear in L5 and the disc has collapsed, and sometimes it feels like you're sitting on a hot plate, with the skin on your upper back feeling like it's burning?
