i can't say i've ever experienced frission (chills) from someone simply explaining an audio concept before now. just five minutes in and you've sucked me into this little microcosom of percussion. excellent video so far, will edit with my thoughts as the video goes on.

10:26 it's doing that because it generates peaks for both pressing and releasing the key. not sure why that's on by default, i don't really like it either

I saw AE in 2015 in LA, and can’t really describe it either. I’m glad I went but I’m not sure if I actually enjoyed it all that much. And I say that with AE being one of my favorite groups. I think I was so busy worrying my friends who were with me would appreciate it, I didn’t focus enough on the music. I also feel AE’s music improves with repeated listens, so the surprising nature of a live set I’d never heard before was a little overwhelming. All that being said I’d see them again in a heart beat if they come within a few hrs drive of me.

One almost need to pick out tracks and listen to them in isolation for a while to appreciate them. If one puts on a random autechre playlist, then it turns into a big mush

This is proving to be pretty hard to replicate in logic...
@TheFellowPassenger
@TheFellowPassenger 6 ай бұрын
I am not a logic user, but I wonder if this might work. 1. Set up a return track. 2. Add a standard delay to the return track and set Feedback to 0, but add a bit of delaytime. 3. immediately after the delay, put some sort of pitchshifter, shift the signal a bit. 4. Set the return track to feed into itself if possible. 5. Send some sounds to that return channel

@@TheFellowPassenger Unfortunately Logic doesn't let you put parameter modulation envelopes/LFOs on a bus send unless you draw it in. I was able to make slightly similar sounds using a drum track with "Glitchshifter" by Airwindows at the end of the chain being modulated by the Logic Stock "Modulator". The Logic stock modulator doesn't let you do custom wave shapes though so I'm experimenting with Free LFO tools at the moment. Thanks for the general nod though you've inspired me! Might have to get Ableton.

One of my greatest idols, SOPHIE, looked up to Autechre more than any other artist, but I never succeeded in appreciating Autechre's music as much as she did. I could totally see how her music resembles some of Autechre's best elements combined with SOPHIE's charismatic and often times melodic sound design, but as much as I forced myself to listen to AE in different moods and states of mind, I aways end up being bored of it and wanting something more

Good work, thanks for your contribution. Curious about what you felt on seeing Autechre?

I realise i never responded. I'm glad to have sort of seen them, well it was all in the dark. I like both the Barbican, I like Autechre and I like that I could add to my vinyl collection.. it also feels like a thing to have done. At the same time, I'm not sure sitting in the dark in a concert hall is the best Autechre listening experience.

Hey man another great video here! I've been thinking for years how I could create these Auterche-ish "evolving" or "transforming" whatever beats so this approach is really interesting. Ofcourse the frequency spectrum of a sound like this is a bit of a challenge to mix if you add many more channels but what I keep is the liberating feeling of this movement away from the usual static beats. At kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZWWYXesYtWnY5Y around 29:00 minute you inserted as parallel processing Ableton's "Spectral Time" and "Reverb" but you didn't have at least one of them at 100% wet. Although it sounds ok was this on purpose? By the way having all these project files for reverse engineering is great way of experimenting. Take care mate!

I can't quite recall, but I assume the effects where a bit overpowering and I adjusted tham to compensate. As these where different paths in a chain, I could possibly have adjusted that between the chain volumes too.
