Thanks for this. Looking forward to your finished project

Andy, the fall colors are gorgeous! They sort of remind me too of colors of the southwest. I can't wait to see the finished rug my friend!

Andy, I can't wait to see the finished rug. Even though I could never do what you do, I think Dorothy would be good at it. She's been into quilting, knitting and things like that. That stuff where you have to count things drives me crazy. But I sure do love to see the process and the end product! Looking forward to the next installment.

I really love how you use those dowels to add extra tension. I'm a new weaver and I think that will really help me!
@curmudgeon668 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think they help, although having another person hold the warp, like if they were driving an old fashioned wagon and a team of horses, is still the best way to control tension, IMHO.

Could you do a video of starting the heavy weft for the first time. I’m a little confused about how to do that and can’t find anywhere online that talks about it. Thanks! Love your videos!

Sorry it's been a while. I had to get ready for Spinzilla. Fiber had to be pre-drafted and I had to get enough fiber to spin. Will be out the whole week as I spin as much fiber as I can. Spinzilla is over on Sunday at 11:59pm.

Hi again Barbara, as you know I am not a spinner, but I know a bunch of spinners who are all doing spinzilla this week. Makes perfect sense to me that you would concentrate on that right now. I'm sure Mr Putney won't be too jealous of your time a way from him.

I do like the look of warp rep. It goes on my loom "to do" list. It looks easy...but then, I said that about renovating the Putney Mountain loom!

Hello Andy, I am not a weaver, though it greatly intrigues me, so please forgive me my ignorance. This is a bit off topic for this video but I was thinking about your double weave blanket and made me wonder, is it possible to do a triple or even a quad weave? Would it be limited by the number of heddles and/or shafts you have? In my mind, when you were doing the double weave the thread was moving in a "C" shape and back again. So why not continue on and make an "S" shape for a triple weave and then even once more, adding a "C" to the bottom of the "S" for a quad weave? Anyhow, I was just wondering. Thanks for sharing with us your craftsmanship, your works are truly amazing and beautiful.

Yeah you can do an S.or triple weave, though, I don't know anyone doing it. Your limited by how bulky it gets on the front beam

Im very nervous about it falling apart on me lol. I haven't attempted it yet, but once I watch more videos, I think I can do it.
@curmudgeon668 жыл бұрын
Amber, understandable concern, but I suggest that you think first decide if your loom is appropriate for B2F warping. As I said, my Ashford table loom just seems to work better for me doing F2B. But if you do decide to try B2F, then do a smaller sample weave the first time, maybe just a scarf that is not too wide, that way you get to try it with out too many threads. And take it slow and easy, I am sure you will get the hang of it. And yes, there are more videos on YT that can help you with warping in either direction.

What size carpet warp are you using Andy
@curmudgeon668 жыл бұрын
8/4 carpet warp, 1600 yards per pound. Don't have any idea what that might be in metric size.

I'm still having a hard time trying to figure out how to warp from back to front. It seriously just blows my mind.

Get a hold of: Warping Your Loom & Tying On New Warps (Peggy Osterkamp's New Guide to Weaving, Number 2) from AbeBooks.co.uk. It's outstanding.

I had a hard time switching from F2B warping to the B2F that you see me doing here. I had never done B2F on my other looms, and still don't on those looms. I think different looms prefer to be warped different ways. But the Louet seems to like B2F. And when I got the loom, I also received a DVD with it that showed a Jane Stafford video of how to warp the loom B2F, I watched that a couple times, and followed what it said to do, and seems now that for this loom I do B2F. But on my Ashford table loom I always go F2B. Do what ever works best for you.

Perhaps if you tell us what in particular is challenging about the back to front process we can help.

Hi Andy, I absolutely love your weaving videos. They have been a huge help. I am intrigued by warp rep, but am having trouble finding a video that shows how to wind the warp on a warping board. Do you have such a video, or do you know of anyone who does? I bought the book by Joanne Tallarovic, "Rep Weave and Beyond" that you said you found helpful, but I found it confusing. I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thank you!

Hi Linda, go back through my videos to find one called "putting on a warp, part 1", see if that helps you.
@lindabonora79656 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, I found your "putting on a warp, part 1" video, and now wish my loom had a raddle that sits on the top as yours does. :-) What I am looking for is a video that talks about warping for rep warp, specifically. I think warping at the cross is confusing as the patterns I've seen call for 2 different colors of warp and it looks like a person needs to twist or turn the threads over when you get to the cross. Thank you!

Did you make your loom?

Not the one in this video. See my video of the alpaca rug, that was on a loom that I made. The loom in this video is from LOUET looms in The Netherlands.
