Warp Text Into the Custom Shape in Adobe Illustrator CC

For those who couldn't understand the steps in the video: 1. Type your text. Right click on the text and click on "Create Outlines". 2. Choose and draw the shape you want to use. (Remember, the shape has to be above the text. If it's not, simply right click on the shape, go to "Arrange", then click on "Bring to the front". 3. Now select both the text and the shape. 4. Click "Object" on the menu bar. Go to "Envelope Distort" and click on "Make with Top Object". Ta da! It's done. In the fish example, he simply created custom shape, which is the fish shape, and followed the same steps as above. Since the end result didn't seem that interesting, he cut off the mouth part of the fish, and used the body part as the top shape. I hope that helps!

Very helpful. I'm a little embarrassed. I've been a graphic designer for 15+ years but never got around to using the Envelope Distort. I like the pace because otherwise the video might have been too long with only limited information. Thanks!!

Same thing here. I was asked to do a text logo shaped like a shield today at work. Luckily there's this video. I blame my college professors for not educating me well and solely just basing on Photoshop LOL. Our field of work requires an unlimited desire for learning. Keep on keeping on, my fellow artist. This is a great tutorial - thank you! You do have to have a basic handle on Illustrator to keep up. It does go fast, but I actually appreciate that - the stuff I know gets done and past, and I can stop/practice on the bits new to me. Also, I learned Illustrator from Deke on Lynda, and that guy is monster-fast, so I guess I'm used to starting/stopping. Anyway, thanks again.

subscribed, but like many of the other commenters, I wish you would explain exactly what you're doing with the fish shape, especially when you drag the pen tool over to the tools panel, then separate the fish and the individual text. Even subtitles would've been a big help.

(2) in "Slicex" you could create New Drum Loops and softs in any order from different slices. And keep the loop slices playing in and

Rewind make you learn better

Hover over the video, go to "Settings" and then "Speed." Adjust to .25, .5, or .75 speed. That might help!
