Maybe German brands do better, but I’m on vacation and stayed in a house where a gravel road leads to which is littered with holes (like three besides each other and that every 20cm-1.5m). I have tried different speeds and tactics to avoid them and have figured out that going fast in 2nd gear (~25-35km/h) and trying to miss as many as possible is smoother and feels less violent than going 10 in 1st gear and trying to miss all. What I’m trying to say is that going faster always makes potholes less significant, and it’s impossible to say for sure what car does better without a direct comparison over long time. And other brands do fine too

However I think the previous owner didn't care about maintenance at all, and this is the result. We were cruising the freeway in the left lane when a 4 X 4 appears up ahead. 70 mph and not a chance in hell of ANY evasive maneuver. No room, too fast, appeared to quickly. So I did what I knew to do: hold the wheel straight, let off the gas and stay AWAY from the brakes. I prepared for "impact" with heart going wild: "Oh crap, this won't be good!" Just a minor "Bump, bump" was all there was. Then I was SURE we'd have two flat left tires. Nope. Got off at the nearest opportunity expecting two dented or damaged wheels. Nope, not a scratch. Car was fine. (Funny though how I happened to forget mentioning nailing a four by four on the freeway when I returned the vehicle... :) Amazing how well auto suspension works. What one would expect would cause major failure and catastrophe was hardly a bump in the road at all. I was impressed.

Here's my immediate attention grabber: I observed the wheels following the contour of the surface of the bump better than when the wheels were spinning. Without the gyroscopic effects of spinning, the static wheels had less inertial resistance to change and moved quicker, thus staying in contact with the road! Cool...

This is an excellent lesson in momentum and moment of inertia. The car body BARELY moves, but the suspension does its job admirably. Low suspended mass moves easily while the rest of the car's body and everything stays almost perfectly still. No helmet, gloves, moto jacket or other PPE while doing this with no doors? You crazy, brah!

Never, ever, use compression fittings on brake lines, they can pop off under the pressures your brake lines see.

Impressed with the suspension on the Mercedes Benz and the fact it didn’t rely on a low brake fluid reservoir to flash the brake warning light. They are good cars. Probably not worth price tag but they are good cars.

Reminds me when driving in Africa, where the"road" is like corrugated sheet.., and you know that you have to drive at more than 50 mph or, you break the car..!! After a certain speed, kinetic energy make you "fly" over the bumps...!! But never decelerate ..!!! Thanks mate.

What's the reason for taking 4Doors, hood. Trunk, pumbers ? that's a lot of weight that would effect suspension and break ? If its for safety, have you thought of replacing them with sand bags or other weights so that the Test really reflect what the car was designed to withstand, just wondering. I love your tests and efforts. I visited Mercedes benz factory in Germany and seen their safety tests with titlted speed roads etc. I love your effort , watched all episodes, Good job. and wish you the best 👍stay safe .
