I've always found it amazing how the Joker can range anywhere from ridiculous and child like clown, to a legit murderous, and dangerous psychopath.
@kmaximusconnor36652 жыл бұрын
Same, I think the fact that every actor who has played the Joker has essentially played a different character while all still being the Joker really speaks to that range.
@themadtitan76032 жыл бұрын
I'd personally reserve calling Keoghan's Joker great or not until he appears in a future movie with a bigger role, for now I'm liking The Man Who Laughs and Elephant Man influences on his Joker, taking him back to his original 1940s days. I think the PERFECT Joker to me would be a combination of all the ones you mentioned, because that's who Joker is, he's not just one thing and I feel only Mark Hamill's portrayal in the DCAU and Arkham series got that right about Joker. He's a narcissistic and mischievous prankster in addition to being a gangster, agent of chaos, sadisitic killer and former failed comedian and all the other traits assocaited with the contemporary depictions of the character.

I appreciate the fact you were respectful and fair towards Letos joker seeing how most ppl blindly hate on him for no reason. You were on point about how he loves the luxurious life and doesn't care about his actions, but the prison tats are actually criminal milestones if you will. A lot of them represent battles he's had with Batman over 20 plus years. Something I find interesting is that in SS he's very much a gangsta, the king of Gotham, but in the Snyder cut he's made out to be like a horror movie villain something reminiscent of the nun with the white make up, lip stick and white rags. I just find the evolution interesting since in a post apocalyptic world there's no criminal underworld to rule over so Leto's joker brings out his more animalistic and brutal nature.

People don't hate the performance as much as they hate Leto. Jared Leto is a giant tool and a prick and the weirdo shit he was doing like sending used condoms and dead animals to cast members under the guise of "method acting" is completely ridiculous. There have been numerous actors who have used method acting to their advantages and churned our great results. Heath ledger even locked himself in a hotel in total isolation as well. But none of them did anything like that. And quite frankly the way in which it was being built up to be an amazing take that's gonna blow your socks off following heath ledger's ground breaking performance was ridiculous coming from an egotistical actor that gave one really good performance in Dallas buyers club and then never gave much more since then. And then to see the movie and have him show up for less time then it took to comb my hair was very strange. Suicide squads marketing, combined with other cast member testimonials, rumored sleeping with under age girls, the weird cult thing he does, and general prickery at his concerts adds up to a feeling that his performance was less of an attempt to reinvent his own version of the character and more of egotistical spotlight that followed after a much more talented actor gave one of the best performances in film history before having his life cut short. It seems from the consumer perspective down right disrespectful.

Not true, there are several villains, comic-book or otherwise, that are just as complex and can be reinvented in many ways by default because each filmmaker, writer, artist and/or game developer would interpret them in their own way.

Honestly, what an amazing video! Like, you brought up basically how every joker in live action form is and what makes them unique. The Barry keoghan part of the joker was just very sad and disturbing, but also fascinating. Also little detail that I don't think anyone but me and spider dash have noticed about keoghan's joker, is that if you rewatch the joker deleted scene, when batman has the file, it has paper clips, but when joker hands it back to him, the paper clips are gone, meaning this shows how smart he is and the fact that he might be escaping, very, very soon.....
@DA11AZ2 жыл бұрын
The Barry Keoghan part of the video really got to me and was by far the best part. I absolutely cannot wait for his time to shine in the future. And the way you described it makes me feel like a joker movie for him would be way more interesting than Phoenix's. I'm not saying I would like this to happen or anything but I just love the idea. a R rated joker story for Keoghan showing his life with his disease and everything that's happened to him. All the trauma. All the horror. All the murder. Just absolutely everything. And showing the absolute most psychotic transformation. A horror story more than anything.

Probably one of the only Jokers who I’d look at and go “yeah I can see why people would join this guys gang/cult” he embodied the charisma of the character.
@thomaskilroy45732 жыл бұрын
Biggest problem with Monaghan’s version that everyone seems to forget when they praise him is the lack of originality. EVERY actor who has played the character has at least done something different. Monaghan didn’t do that. He’s basically just a highlight reel of past versions. He’s doing a combined impression of Ledger, Nicholson and Hamill. But he NEVER does something new.

This video has done the best job of explaining why I see the potential of Barry Keoghan's Joker. Whereas the others explored their own distinct and varied angles to the character, Barry Keoghan's has the potential to give us a truly twisted and evil side of the character that even the comics barely touched

Thank you for covering and giving love to the more obscure Joker performances as well. It’s nice to see some of the fringe parts of the character’s history like the OnStar commercials get covered as well as recognition given to actors such as Cameron Monaghan who despite never actually being a mainstream Joker did a damn good job bringing the characters charisma to life. The Joker is a character who is far too overused to the point where when he made his cameo in The Batman I and a few other people in the theater audibly groaned. Upon seeing more of this version though he’s grown on me, he’s different enough that as long as they keep him out of the spotlight for a good while I think he has potential. You nailed it with the title, overused but versatile is the perfect way to describe the characters at this point but as long as the Joker continues to evolve and take different forms throughout these series I don’t mind him sticking around. As long as he doesn’t overshadowed other characters that is. Great analysis of these characters, you earned a sub.

You know, the way you put it in the video, i kinda like the concept of Leto's Joker. Not the execution, but the idea of a genius, homicidal monster without regard for any human life, whether bad or good, hiding behind the facade of just another violant, narcissistic gangster. Like these two sides of the character, mad clown and ruthless gangster, being really seperated and even the second one being used to hide the first. Like he's almost unwilling to let this side out because hes smart enough to know he'll get chased after by everyone, police and gangster alike, but ultimately knows he can't, so he tries to mask it with another, similar way of life. This way, the people of Gotham, the police and even other superheroes won't recognize him that much as the dangerous monster he is, but more likely see him as another part of crime in this hellhole of a city. So he uses that aspect of the city to camouflage his nefarious deeds until it's too late for everyone to see the bigger picture... except for Batman, the only one who can see through the outer evil shell to see the pitch black deep core because he's the only one to deal with him 1 on 1 and maybe he is the only one Joker reveals that side to fully. The side we also see once society crumbles in the nightmare in JL. So to put it simply, everyone knows Joker is to be feared, but only Batman knows hes worth despising and killing, but he doesnt. I kinda love that. Unfortunately it kinda messes with the whole "wants to be seen & explosive character" side of the character but hey, Ledger wasnt really campy either was he? Also, the execution sucked either way, with almost no screen time to see this Joker evolve so....whatever i guess.
