The Golden State Warriors won 67 games during the regular season. They finished in the top 10 of all-time highest point differentials (they seemed headed for a top 5 or 6 finish but lost some steam down the stretch). Steve Kerr didn’t win Coach of the Year (hats off to Coach Bud), but 67 wins (including a 39-2 home record) is very impressive, especially for a rookie coach.
This may or may not be common knowledge but Steve Kerr won 4 straight NBA titles from 1996-1999. He’s also worked with some impressive coaches in Lenny Wilkens, Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich & Mike D’Antoni (as the GM in Phoenix). That’s just Steve. That’s not even including the impressive resumes of his coaching staff (Alvin Gentry, Ron Adams, Luke Walton, Jarron Collins) or any of the myriad of ex-players and coaches he worked with as a broadcaster.
Point being, he’s has a wealth of experience to draw from having been on or around so many great teams. One thing that those teams surely have in common is ball movement. The willingness to share the rock and become better than just five guys on a court. To become a whole, greater than the sum of its parts. With players moving in relative unison, and the ball swinging and zipping all over the court, it seems hard to stop this team. Mike D’Antoni used to say “the ball finds energy,” and when the ball moves around like Kerr and his crew want it to, the energy is practically unstoppable. Plus you get to see the weave (multiple dribble handoffs out on top) a whole bunch. Who doesn't love the weave?
I should note, none of these plays are from the playoffs, so all this fun is from the 82 game run.
