I was born in 1957 so this was over when i was a child, but one time I was in a department store with my mom and a woman next to us reached over and her sleeve went up and there was a tattoo on her arm. I was alarmed because I never saw a tattoo or knew what one was and in shock, I asked my mom (right infront of this lady, I was only a small child) why that woman has a mark on her like that. my mom got really embarrassed and said because your dad volunteered to go to Germany, he rescued people with this mark their arms from Germany. That woman looked like she felt bad, but she understood I was a child, and I just felt like I said something wrong. Then my mom smiled at her and we walked away, and this was in Gary, Indiana.

And this habit has gotten into even modern crime reporting. You see someone who mass short kids in a school and on TV they blur the images.
