War Stories with Mark Felton

Күн бұрын

In October 1943, 600 prisoners forced to assist the extermination process at Sobibor Camp in Poland rose in revolt against the SS. Carefully planned and executed, it was one of the most significant revolts that occurred in the concentration camp system and has been the subject of several films. But what is the true story?
Dr. Mark Felton is a well-known British historian, the author of 22 non-fiction books, including bestsellers 'Zero Night' and 'Castle of the Eagles', both currently being developed into movies in Hollywood. In addition to writing, Mark also appears regularly in television documentaries around the world, including on The History Channel, Netflix, National Geographic, Quest, American Heroes Channel and RMC Decouverte. His books have formed the background to several TV and radio documentaries. More information about Mark can be found at: en.wikipedia.o...

Just wanted to add my appreciation for the excellent historical content and a brief story...was in a store last week that aquires items from businesses that have closed. Sadly, many items were from independent bookstores. Being an avid reader, of course I sorted through and recognized one author immediately. I have mixed emotions as I bought several of Dr. Felton's work immediately. What a find... would highly recommend his titles and maybe support bookstores as well. Again, I enjoy all of the format...

10:58 “and it gave us something to live for.” I think I’m a glass half empty type of guy on that one. I think i would have been past the thought of survival, and my quote would have been, “revenge was finally becoming possible and that was something to die for.” Of course i didn’t live or experience the horror that they did and i have all this information that they didn’t have until it was too late. Most only found out the truth when they realized it wasn’t water coming out of the shower heads. Sitting back in my heated house Monday quarter backing, id hope that i would have had a “good” death where i took at least one SS to eternity of nothingness.

Taking a moment to recommend the "Escape from Sobibor" TV movie from 1987 that Mark used as the thumbnail. A bit sanitized and with some TV-movie trappings of the era, it's nonetheless very well done and the best representation of the event on film. It's also fairly accurate, it being based on first hand accounts and with survivors (including Thomas Blatt) advising the production.
