WARTBURG 1967 2 stroke 3 cyl COLD START !! FAIL !!!

@dutchurbanminer right but the 353 was designed in 1967 and built until 1990.That couldnt work because the whole car was outdated. But they are realy nice cars and I love the 2-Stroke sound much mor then modern 4-strokes.

That looks quite bizarre under the hood. It's unusual seeing the cooling fan facing the other direction.

This car has the same 1940's DKW engine. It worked well, was cheap to build. But has only a "little problem": the dark blue exhaust smoke. Greetings from San Juan, Argentina.

That blue smoke is the problem , our goverment doesn't like your car to smoke , so no papers for further road-use , greetz from The Netherlands , Europe.

DKW cars were made under license in Argentina and Brazil. But the production was stopped during the 1960's. East Germany continued with the 2-stroke cars (Trabant and Wartburg) until 1990.

The pump takes all day to prime the carburettor from empty. An electric pump is a useful accessory if a Wartburg is used infrequently.

I had a Wartburg that sometimes used to fail to start for no apparent reason.

@MZTrail96 You're right , its watercooled , maybe they put the engine forward to get more weight on the nose , a 2 stroke engine is much lighter than a 4 stroke.

I HAD ONE IN UK AND THE RINGS WERE SHOT, IT WAS A PAIN TO START.OOPS CAPS.

Mine used to do that, but it would do it when I had already driven it down town with no problems, and then when I wanted to come home again... no start...

Should have given it a shot of ether spray in the carb. That started it right up on my 2-stroke SAAB.

Yes I bought a 1966 Wartburg in 1966 with 6000 miles on it £6000 from a dealer in Salibury UK they were just starting to sell Toyotas and had a new Corrola there.

If you know the carburator of the wartburg, you can see, that the choke isn't operatet! This two stroke engine will never start in cold condition without choke!

You're right , somebody here forgot to use the choke and... the gasoline.

It was about the same cost as a 1966 MINI,As you know that was a much smaller car.The (Toymotor) Corrola was even more at that time.
