Maritime restricting to 52 (or lower, I've driven for them) in a futile gesture to save diesel, is just killing the truck slowly. Or quickly, if, like myself, drove a DAF fitted with a high speed coach diff... result is being dragged off the Woodhead pass near Tintwhistle after the diff blew itself up.

Well done to the police for making our roads safer. As a driver myself for nearly 40 years, I have seen most things. Now I cannot stand driving trucks because the amount of stupid ediots driving in the UK, its not only people using mobile phones, but it's other drivers' reckless behaviour and a disregard of safety and thus putting lives at risk. Years ago, we occasionally saw a driver doing a stupid thing, but now it's almost every minute. The roads are safe, but its the people who use them that are not. What gets me a gunman shoots some people, and it's all over the news, but a family of 4 gets killed in an RTC its just another road accident. Just have a look at road related deaths from accidents, deaths, and serious injuries. When I used to drive hgv (LGV) vehicles we had a lot of respect but sadly to say nowadays you get abuse from drivers that don't understand the skills involved with driving trucks and coming back home and not being killed by the idiots. Thank you again to all our emergency services because you do a fantastic job. For those brave men and women that put their lives on the line to save our loved ones' lives every second of the day and night. The laws need to change for the offence if you're seen using a device then it is an instant ban.
