I didn't know the story beforehand and it was definitely surprising and brutal to watch. It seemed more like an accident but I think it fits the theme of the show, because like Lucerys death, it happened almost accidental (or more like it wasn't supposed to happen). From what you say the bookversion makes more sense though and I agree it makes it too easy to choose sides and hate the greens. And the Dialogue during the Scene was a little disappointing, seems cooler in the books as you said the "iconic lines".

I think it makes sense that Daemon wanted Aemon dead. Killing a baby does nothing for a grieving mother or their position in the was besides making such a strategy in the future. Killing Aemond will leave the largest dragon without a rider and will likely fly back to dragon stone awaiting a new Black rider. Aemond is a competent fighter and strategist, and a better heir regent than the Jaehaerys is being heir to Aegon. Aegon is also incompetent drunkard so assisting him would really only give Aemond or Otto more power. Aemond is the perfect target of an assassination. Moreover Aemond is the one who famously kinslayed Daemon’s wife’s son. Why would him or Rhaenyra want to kill Aemond brothers son? Kill a pretender kings child heir? Kin slaying the baby nephew only weakens Rhaenyras position and lose sympathy for her cause. However, kin slaying Usurper strongest supporter and likely regent after Aegon, Kin-slayer, and messenger-killer Aemond will be seen as justice and fair, it would make Rhaenyra look strong and competent. She lost looking like a true queen, sympathy, revenge, and power at the death of Jaehaerys.

Not comparable to the red wedding. The red wedding had characters killed off with strong character arcs developed already. Maybe it will ultimately make a bigger difference if the show runners want it to, but doesn’t seem so yet.

Not that i would enjoy the book version . But it would be better if they followed the books. It will gain more sympathy for teams green. Instead they made team green look evil and put alicent and Cole in bed
