Great to hear, that you still love the ID4 after 2 years! Tesla supercharger access is (partly) possible in Germany. Is the Tesla charging system very important in the stats? In Germany, Tesla has about 3000 charging points. But there are a lot of other options. Here are the latest numbers I have found: EnBW: 7.904 Charging points E.ON: 4.275 Charging points Tesla: 2.877 Charging points Mercedes: 2.619 Charging points EWE Go: 2.361 Charging points Since two years I own a Peugeot e2008, but I never used a Tesla supercharger.... But maybe I should register to have the opportunity...

Congrats on the new baby!! We are also loving our ID.4 (9 months). We did our first road trip a couple weeks ago and charging was really a non-event for us too. While the chargers may have been de-rated at times, we tend to stop for 45 minutes to an hour anyway to eat and such. It still charged plenty while we waited. 😊 Sad to hear of the service experience. Service providers can sure vary from one to another with any car for sure. We are lucky to have a great dealership near us for service. They take pride on their "It's easier here" motto.

@@BlakeCheck awesome thanks for the reply. I guess I was hearing from some other owners that even with the shade cover closed and the AC on they still feel heat near their head.. but you're saying you don't notice this in Phoenix Arizona where it can be 110- 117° in the summer?
@BlakeCheck
@BlakeCheck 7 күн бұрын
Nope never had that issue! They make aftermarket roof shades for like 50 bucks that you can throw up there, and you could do ceramic tint too. But the main benefit of those is to keep your AC from having to work as hard to keep the cabin cool. Which is good for efficiency. Either way, you’re fine.

There is a guy who sells plans and a kit for making a tray for being able to store some stuff in the front. I got my ID4 in June, and so far no issues. The one thing I have to tell you but I think you know already since you put that storage on top. You are going to run out of room quickly in the rear storage with kids. My kids noticed this right away, which led me to say this car is for Two people, not Four people, (they are grown now). The ID4 was to replace my Toyota Highlander which was perfect for road trips and can carry up to 8. Although we rarely had over 5 in the vehicle, usually just four. And we had plenty of room for storage. When I went to put all my beach stuff for four people into the ID4, it all didn’t fit. I do have a hitch basket I got for the Highlander so it looks like for our big trips or beach trips with 4 people I will have to use that

Please, please, please check your manufacture's installation manual before putting anything between the baby seat and the car. Most do not allow seat protectors because they could slip and slide in an accident and then the seat won't hold the baby safely. A safe install is best. You can also check with a CPST if you want to be sure the seat is installed correctly. Safe car seat use saves lives.

Don't get me wrong I still loved that Ioniq 5 and feel no animosity towards Hyundai, other than they need to get their dealer network EV trained and supportive, but happiness now is a Tesla Model Y! I still have the wonderful 2020 Kia Soul EV limited (Canadian availability only with 64KWH battery) and I traded my original 2019 Soul EV for the Ioniq which they did give me good value for, Kia / Hyundai autogroup do a fine job with their cars although my 2023 Ioniq 5 should have been caught at final factory testing of the charging system where I see Ford for example does to their F 150 Lightnings and possibly other mfg's as well. The first thing I did with my Tesla was run it for a road trip and try the super charger, call me gun shy!

Just out of a curiosity, why did you opt for the phone mount at all? The ID.4 has Apple Car Play. I ordered my 2024 ID.4 a few weeks ago, now waiting impatiently for it to be built. I'm in a similar situation, have a 3yo son, and a dog. I need to replace my aging station wagon, and I need to fit a medium-to-large dog transport box in the trunk with some space to spare, and I decided for this practical family SUV. One thing I'd recommend, though is the back protection of the front seat. In a couple of years from now, you'll have your son in a front facing child seat, and he will kick the back of the seat in front of him, if he's anything like my son. I simply recommend to cover the entire seat underneath the child seat (I was switching my son's child seat from one side to the other recently, and the amount of dirt I found underneath the seat was shocking), plus the back of the seat in front of him.

We've had Teslas since 2016, the supercharger network is an absolute game-changer. If you're considering driving your EV outside the city, the supercharger is required. Now that the supercharger network has been opened to some other EVs, you don't need a Tesla for that reason. But make sure that your car has access to the supercharger network. The Rivian looks great, haven't driven one but I'm positive it's a great car. We've driven from central Texas to San Francisco, New Mexico, Nebraska, and North Carolina. Lots of long-range experience. Of course for in-city driving, you don't need a supercharger. In fact you don't WANT a supercharger (as the slow in-home charging is slightly better for the battery). I drove a 50 mile round trip commute in the Teslas for several years, NEVER used a supercharger for in-city charging.
@nukem384
@nukem384 Жыл бұрын
@@Patrick462 Totally agree. We in particular really don't drive on road trips, like at all. So while having the SC network is nice if you have a Tesla (we also have a Model 3), we don't really utilize it. All I'm saying is that if you're looking at an EV, consider everything, not just Tesla because of the SC network. It's a nice to have, but not required. We bought the Rivian full well knowing that we would have to use EA if we were going somewhere far. But those times are so few and far between, it's not really relevant and we'd just deal with it as a one time thing. Luckily for us, Rivian is going to jump on the SC network this coming spring. So we get the benefits of having the proper size car we wanted with no compromises and have the convenience of using the SC network for those few times. As you mentioned, home charging is where it's at. We love having a private gas station in the garage :D.
@BlakeCheck
@BlakeCheck Жыл бұрын
I personally haven’t encountered issues with the CCS network but that should come with a caveat that I’ve only used them less than 10 times in our 6 months of ownership. I know it’s possible to road trip on the CCS network, but that it’s much more likely that you’ll encounter issues and longer wait times. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would dispute that much less try to compare EAs network to Teslas SC network. I like our ID.4 and love having some variety in the garage (helps me stay unbiased and gives me more perspective on the market) but we def would’ve bought a Model Y had we known prices were gonna come down a month after we got the ID.4. I’ll be first in line to buy an adapter if VW and Tesla come to an agreement on switching to NACS.

I test drove a 2023 ID.4 a month ago, the AC sucked and wondered why. Did they tell you what they did/replaced? I’ve been considering the ID.4 or waiting for the new Tesla 3 Highland
@BlakeCheck
@BlakeCheck Жыл бұрын
There were not one but two hoses that were leaking, they said. That replaced those and it’s been fine since then. Really strange. Haven’t heard anyone rose say they’ve had that issue. The drive modes also alter the AC performance for some reason. In eco mode, the AC cooling is limited. So that might be what you were encountering during your test drive. I think you’re making the right call waiting for the model 3 tbh. Especially if you don’t NEED an SUV.

Nice review, and a very cute baby!. iD4's are great cars, and you don't have to be concerned about participating in a cult. Two years of charging at home has produced a cost of only $.02 per mile, which is only 10% of the cost of fuel for a second vehicle that averages 23 mpg. We have found that moving the rear cargo floor to the lower level provides much more efficient space and control over the items in back. Incidentally, interior volume/cargo volume/trunk volume are 130/64/30 cubic feet respectively. The Model 3 is 97/43/23 . . . which is considerably smaller. Rear seating in the Model 3 is decidedly cramped, while the iD4 is very comfortable and roomy for adults. Enjoy your car!
@BlakeCheck

The iD.4 has great rear leg room considering the overall size of the car. We love it. Made pregnancy and these early infant days so much more convenient and comfortable for my wife and son. But how do those numbers compare to the Model Y, taking into account the frunk space. Much better comparison than an SUV to a sports sedan. There are definitely some crazy Tesla fans out there but the majority of us just love these cars and are excited to be around other people who love theirs. My model 3 performance is so awesome. It’s my dream car. The ID.4 is great but it just doesn’t evoke the same emotion for me personally.

@@BlakeCheckwe need cargo space for Costco runs so only the model y would do. I think it’s $10k or more expensive than our short list types. Cost for a run about BEV is a big factor. In about 5 years, when battery technology has improved and the road trip charging experience is much improved, we will get a road cruising BEV to do like you have and no more direct fossil fuel consumption. Then we will look seriously at Tesla vs other fast charging comfortable road cruising BEVs.

With our 2 kids, we do supplement with a minivan because you’re limited to 4 seats in the VW. By the time grandparent, family, or friend tags along the ID4 can shrink fast. For everyday it’s so comfortable to drive and the EA charge network with the 3yr free charging is awesome. I check ppl when they say that the ID.4 sucks, that’s far from true, but I also gotta check you on that one bud: model y is a better all around car, hands down.
@JimSpence
@JimSpence Жыл бұрын
Haha nooooo way! I’ve had the 3, Y, too and now ID.4. The Tesla tech is better no doubt. The VW app absolutely blows. VW makes a better car for driving. Sunshade? Not in Tesla. Cornering lights, not in Tesla. Massaging seats, not in Tesla. Heated windshield, not in Tesla. Rear cargo cover, not in Tesla. Rear window wiper, not in Tesla. Free charging for 3 years, not in Tesla anymore. Drive modes, ambient lights, quiet hvac w/ normal vents, Normal windshield wipers that don’t go 100mph in misting rain, not in Tesla lol. And THEN you get into build quality and Tesla is still learning how to make cars.
@BlakeCheck
@BlakeCheck Жыл бұрын
Yeah we’re gonna disagree. Teslas do in fact have heated windshield (and a literal defrost mode in the app) and a cargo cover…the other stuff, a better drivers car does not make. If we were to sit here and every feature that Teslas have that the ID.4 does not have, we’d be here all day and frankly I don’t feel it’s necessary to do that: the market speaks for itself I think. It’s okay to like your ID.4: we like ours. But you don’t need to discredit Teslas to justify liking it lol. You gotta be more objective dude. On that note, I don’t either of us are gonna benefit from this exchange anymore so I’m gonna leave you to your thoughts. Glad you like your ID.4!

I can also say the VW service is a problem. I also had a AC issue that took 5 trips to finally get fixed. The issue is that VW dealership is 90 miles away from me. and there is only one other dealership and its as far away too

@@BlakeCheck well to get it fixed yes. Scheduled an appointment to get it looked at and no tech was there even though I scheduled appointment, went again and thought they properly diagnosed the issue and they ordered the part. When I got it in to repair they took it in and then hours later get a call saying they had the wrong part. I was pissed. Took a day off work for that. Finally up there was going to take 4-6 hours but there weren’t able to finish that night so got an atlas for the night then it was done but no communication from dealership on if it was finished. It was frustrating but other than that my id4 has been great.

Nice ID.4 man. Sounds like VW service is just as bad for their EV’s as it is for their gas/diesel powered vehicles. I have a TDI Passat at the moment. Love the car but the couple times I’ve had to take it into the dealer for warranty work has been an absolute nightmare. Weeks to get in, no loaners available, have to haggle with them and VWoA about coverage, etc. It’s really a shame, the cars are so great! Service is just terrible.

Long range pack but single motor rwd variant that was discontinued late 2019. It was actually slightly more efficient than the dual motor variant bc it weighed less. Tesla stopped selling it bc more margin on dual motor and to simplify production.

Got rid of my ID4. Don't buy this crap! It is like a train without railroads!!! And take a Tesla Y for a day from Herz - you'll see what I'm saying. Here's the story: I had always been a fan of Germans, until I bought this shame of German car making. Germany has winter, but it is somehow not prepared for winter AT ALL: 1) we put winter tires from official dealership (Michelin tires mind you), and Anti-slip system started to engage whenever I am trying to accelerate. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A TRUCK WHEN MERGING to a highway - the car DID NOT ACCELERATE!!!!! THIS IS INSANE!!! the dealership was trying to "dial in" some settings, they invited a VW rep - NO CHANGE. I ended up swapping my tires back to mid season. 2) and now, after the "dialing in" experiment the range at 100% battery load shows 210 miles. I brought it back to the dealership - they can do nothing about it. 3) no heat pump - goodbye range in the winter 4) charging is slow - max charging speed I saw when charging was 65 - 70 kW 5) finding a decent charger is a good luck experience - you have to drive off the highway and there is no guarantee there'll be an available stall that works... AWFUL. We are driving between Boston and NY often - a couple of times we merely made it back home even with a pit stop to recharge... Result: Picked up my TY in March 2024. ID4 has been such a waste of money. We paid 36K+ for a certified used ID4 a year ago and now trading in for 20K (VW offers me 19K and tries to sell a newer ID 4 - guess my reaction). DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY, IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK! Tesla has a super reliable charging - it shows you how long to stay at what charger - and the network is SUPER RELIABLE!!!! After driving my TY for just 4 weeks - I forgot about ALL THE CARS I HAD PREVIOUSLY OWNED!!!

We have had our 2023 iD.4 for a little over a year and it’s been great. We love it. Have driven every version of the model Y and it’s great too. Those are not mutually exclusive truths. Peak charge rate for 2023 with SK On cells is 170kW which is good (and I believe the new 2024 might be even better than that). I live in Phoenix so cold weather isn’t a factor. I’m sorry to hear you had a bad experience and I’m glad you enjoy your model Y. I love my model 3, so I can understand your passion.
