Get your history straight. Just because Nigeria did not officially come together as happened in 1914, doesn't mean, the Nigerian region was not already an entity, that was working together intermediated by the British. Look Calabar was not just the first capital of the area known as Nigeria but was the capital of the Bight of Biafra including 4 countries-Cameroon, Gabon, Equitorial Guinea and the South of Nigeria from the 17th century. It continued until the period of transition into colonialism. There was never anytime the British left Nigeria from the slave trade era culminating in the colonial times. During that time until the period, the British representatives of Nigeria were seeking for a permanent capital, Calabar was the administrative headquarters of not just the South, as that headquarters enabled the white leaders to coordinate the North, West and South East. That has happened from the 1800s after slavery ended as well as long before colonialism and the official merging of the North and South regions in 1914. Washington D.C. was the capital of America after New york from declaration of independence when they were only 13 States. They were other independent regions like Texas, who were not part of that Union but later joined. But did that stop New York from being America's 1st capital after the constitution was ratified?

The regions that you describe does not appear to represent the Nigeria that we have today. What of the 'Nothern regions' that are in the South and are ancetrally the land of the ethnic groups in the south?

This is how you fail history because you can't comprehend it that there was nothing called Nigeria before 1914. Northern and southern protectorates are having different capitals while Lagos was a colony of Britain on its own . Lagos joined southern protectorate in 1906 and capital of southern protectorate was moved from Calabar to Lagos in 1906 and there was still nothing called Nigeria. Nigeria was created in 1914 when Northern and southern protectorate was merged together and called Nigeria.
