@@ThemeParkObsessionDD Opening weekendish... Not every theme park can be the HOLY TRINITY that is Universal Studios. Not even the almighty Disney. The last time I did Halloween in SoCal was in 2018 and Knott's Scary Farms blew Universal AND Disney out of the water in my opinion.

All the mazes "not being ready yet" after the event starts is why I stopped going to Magic Mountain 15 years ago. I went to the park once and each coaster I went to was closed and I was told "People didn't show up to work" or "Someone's late to work." This feels like it's a mom-and-pop theme park on someone's land instead of a major tourist attraction.

I was also there yesterday on the 13th and had a blast! it was so much fun, but as for why Trick r Treat had a late opening I believe something happened because I was walking through it when all of the emergency lights came on and we were evacuated. This was around 8pm so it was opened but shut down for some time. I do agree though that there was a lack of some scare actors through the mazes as some had some empty spots where someone clearly should have been but on the other hand it seems that there are more walk around characters around the park compared to past years. Either way I had a good time and hope that anyone who reads this and goes to FFE has fun too!

I love your co-host, so cute and spooky. Does she work HHN with you? Seems like Fright Fest wasn't quite ready yet. I wish they would have waited longer. It seems they are going for lots of houses rather than quality for the opening. Hopefully it gets ironed out as the season goes on.

I visited FF last year and although I enjoyed the decor, the first maze my partner and I went to had an unexpectedly long wait, even though the event had just opened. We managed to go through all the scare zones but only visited 2 or 3 mazes in total due to the long lines. My advice to anyone would be to arrive early, but wait for about an hour after the event starts to avoid the weird waits.

I believe, as an out of towner (seattle) and HUGE coasters fans! Its still worth it for us. HHN is Sooooooo crowed as well. Absolutely KILLS the fun. No pun intended. After wipping the houses at HHN last year with express pass.. there really wasn't many rides open.. let alone their lack of roller coasters. You end up literally waste Deep in people the whole night. Being pushed through the houses like sardines.. they over sell the express passes as well. There were times where the express lines were longer then GA! you feel ripped off! Six flags has the coasters running in the Dark! That alone, makes up for the lack luster houses. So as coaster fans? Its six flags Baby! Tim & Michele (Seattle wa.)

The problem with six flags was they tried to do to much. They should focus on fully staffing and Opening the IP houses first foremost. They need to close some of the older (legacy) original houses for the and utilize the staff from those for the new houses.

Mazes not open or opening late on weekend two shouldn't be a thing. I also feel like keeping the park open then habing the event start may be an issue. Knotts at least closes for an hour and gets things all set up and ready. I dont know about hhn.

In six flags great adventure NJ they have made it a separate ticketed event. Not included in the daily ticket. Park will c!ose at 5pm and reopen at 6pm.

I think it was initially hard ticketed for west coast too, but they got cold feet or made a different call. I’m really excited for Great Adventure’s season, but also if this is what their haunt flagship is bringing… 😬

@@botanicus2921 They had to change this weekend to a preview weekend at the last minute on Friday. Only two of the legacy houses opened up, none of the IPs ready. People who had bought tickets were getting a refund or are allowed to use it another day. They were definitely not ready as usual.

@@powdylips giant bummer. Was gonna go this weekend with the expectation that maybe one or two houses were down, but what a disaster. Changing an active opening weekend to a preview is pretty crazy to me and suggests that they did not think about this. I think people would honestly understand and be okay with phased opening if it was announced at midsummer scream or like a month out (“Fright Fest Opens with Stranger Things, and two weeks later the event goes full steam with the opening of etc etc”). They made a few bad decisions this year, but I think the cedar fair deal is going to totally revamp a ton of these events. They’re gonna want a Knotts Scary Farm in every state, especially in non horror nights competing areas like Jersey, NY, Texas, and Atlanta where they can really bring a defining event and hire from the crazy talented pools of artists already established there. On another note, excited to see what they do with Texas Chainsaw and Army of the Dead. TCM seems all new, while army of the dead will probably be a shortened version of Magic Mountains without the grand aftermath 2 set. Also want to to hit up great escape, as psycho clan creator is now heading entertainment and it sounds like there will be some fun street activations.

dang I got a pass and only $10 would be all I spend besides gas and food visiting for fright fest. Seeing the mazes with issues makes me wonder if spending the $ on gas is worth that alone. Like it might of been the 1st night but usually the 1st night is the same as the last.

also Scarry Farm was around before Universal started 1989 so actually the public is use to it and SCARRY FARM is the bar. Universal usually has 8 mazes at most. I wouldn't set the bar for Horror Nights with 8. Scarry Farm usually has 10 minimum every year and all have a certain minimum number of characters at all times. Seeing 1st weekend videos is really making me worry if this trip is worth it. I don't want to see Willabies again.

I think Knott’s is the best overall package for the money. More mazes, more shows, more rides, more decorations and more fog. HHN is amazing in its own right don’t get me wrong but Knott’s just has a particular feeling that HHN hasn’t been able to match at least here in Hollywood.

No...they need to not do ANYTHING like HHN...they just need to make the mazes better...more detail and try and have more scare actors available. I also wish they would bring back more shows like they used to have, just a couple years ago. They at least decorate their park and have scare zones around the whole park and it has a way better overall vibe then HHN ever has...it actually FEELS like a Halloween Event...Knotts FEELS like a Halloween Event...Hobbs Grove, Winchester Mystery House, Pirates of Emerson, Hearstoppers ALL FEEL like Halloween Events...HHN...outside the VERY FRONT...does not...at all. HHN has had a major lack of creativity and ideas for awhile now, and since 2016 they have gotten more PG...that combined with extremely weak IP choices, no real scare zones outside the front of the park...no decor, no ambience...its all stand in lines, go from one to the other, go to the Plaza, or one of the other food options, stand in long lines to eat and drink...then go back to standing in long lines. All the time and money wasted on Terror Tram...would be better used to add another house or two and some scare zones, decor, ambiance around the park...They need a restructure and to refocus their event majorly

Well look at HHN Orlando, that’s the benchmark if you’re going to make an IP based maze that we have seen before. They have to be at that level if they want to change the crowds perspective.

@@ThemeParkObsessionDD Yeah, I agree that they should shoot for around the level of HHN Orlando's IP mazes for sure. Also the staffing issues at Magic Mountain hurt as well! Just more scare actors can make a weak maze much better in the public eye and guest satisfaction. I mean look at Willoughby's Resurrected...we KNOW they can pull off a nice looking maze and when that thing is up and running with a decent staff...it is still the best maze at Magic Mountain. This year there were several factors that did not help...it was their first year of trying to go big for Halloween...They hired an outside production company to handle all the IP mazes across the chain. That back east company failed to deliver and took on way to many jobs here on the west coast...for Halloween and the Holidays that are effecting several big companies and not just Six Flags! But yeah...its Six Flags, they have a good vibe, they just need to IMPROVE lol

Only wanted to say, that the HHN tickets at Universal are like $300 (on Sundays in October, and Fri/Sat is even more $350) for the Fast Pass this year...so $150 for Six Flags admission plus the haunted fast pass is less $$ than HHN. Im not going to HHN this year because of the price hikes. I'll go do Knott's though, as theyre just $150 as well for the admission and fast pass, so same as Six Flags but sounds like a better experience.

Lack of scareactors is a really noticeable problem at any haunted attraction. I remember one year Knotts had an off year and the lack of scareactors was so noticeable, going through our last haunted house my friend and I actually counted. No lie, we only encountered 4!!!! Knotts has obviously redeemed themselves but here it is 10 years later and I still vividly remember that.

I remember going through Stranger Things the first time they had it at HHN and I thought the same thing: lack of characters. Later it dawned on me, most of the characters in the show (at least back in season 1) were all kids so tough to get try and recreate kid characters with adult scareactors.

These "scare actors" seem like they just got cast and were left to figure out what to do on their own accord. It's kind of embarrassing. USH really fleshes out exactly how to capitalize every startling moment.

@johnsmi213 Actually you're not too far off. The way that they cast scare actors is exactly the same way that they hire the regular cast members during the day. They do have auditions, but it's nothing compared to the same kind of caliber that universal studios puts into their events and their scare actors where they teach them how to act and perform. Six flags ends up putting them in a parking lot and basically saying "okay show me what you got." And they make their decisions based off of who's putting in the most aggressive performance.

@@Hanzolebot Yeah, it comes off that way. It also seems like they just choose a section of the maze and improvise what they'll do to scare someone. That's why they try futile things like doing monologues or hiding behind curtains and just going "Boo."

You know what though? Hopefully now with the knotts/ 6 flags merger, things can start getting better. Maybe knotts can give them some influence with scare school and how to act in a maze and also improve their "scare zones". Give them some street actors in certain areas.. I feel like they have so much potential with how big the park is and they just dont know how to properly handle the potential. Hopefully future years can get better. 💜

I mean Disneyland pushes things beyond Orlando at every level cause we are used to being challenged and pushed to enjoy the more extreme horror side of Halloween being local. Still both Universal and Knotts are going to be on top of their game immediately when they open. Six Flags feels like they are trying to push things without the full effort cause money. And the further stories I’ve heard have made me convinced that six flags is lagging even tho they cost as much. Thank you Dylan for the honesty. It matters. You keep an eye on the happenings while taking care of yourself fit wise. The season is doing you well. Good luck on the rest of the season cause you are doing awesome. Halloween Rules
