Vogelsong doesn’t know jack? Ha he pitched around the world, fell below the surface and came back to the surface and planted the flag on top of the Himalayas being the WS. He probably can give pretty good advice. Crap on Dave Reghetti than. He was just a pitcher. Then became a coach. Screw Bochy, he was just a player. Screw Flannery. I’ll leave it at that. I was side struck by this one tonight. Ok so scouts that have never made it to MLB but they’re damn good. They learned right? This was a massive hypocritical show talking out both sides of the mouth Dieter and I like your content and enjoy basically all the stuff you do. Tonight, no sense literally at all. It was odd.

I don’t think this interview is going to age well. I don’t think history will look kindly on its accuracy. This point about Posey having no experience is growing old, fast. How good was Dieter at writing before he ever tried it? Oh, not very good? Soo, we should never have given him a pencil and encouraged him to start writing for the first time? NO pobo has ever done it, until they have. Farhan apparently had some “experience” coming from another front office… and how did he work out? Experience doesn’t guarantee anything. Nor does intelligence. We keep hearing how brilliant Farhan was, and that even he failed at the job. Being a pobo takes more than simple “intelligence.” I believe Posey’s intelligence and his demeanor are WAY better suited for the job than Farhan ever was. Who’s smarter, Farhan or Ned Colletti? Aaand who was more successful at the job? Academic intelligence isn’t everything. In fact it’s not even the main thing. Posey will likely hire the right people and surround himself with people who excel at his weaknesses. Because he’s smart enough to know what he doesn’t know. THAT’S real intelligence. What if he hires Sabean to be his Co-#1 …. 1 hire and everything Dieter said is basically immediate hot garbage. (And don’t tell me he won’t be interested in a Co-#1 GM position because right now he’s merely an ADVISOR to the Yankees GM’s…. I think he’d be pumped to reunite with his fellow WS-winning, franchise favorite player to Co-GM the sfg and work together to get this ship sailing in the same direction as the wind again). It’s certainly no guarantee that Posey will succeed. There’s a long way to go to turn this team around. But all this outrage that he has no experience and therefore is doomed to fail… doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. And worst case scenario, if he doesn’t work out, but because quite literally ANYTHING is going to be better than FZ, he goes back to just being an owner after his 3 years, and in that time as he hands it off to someone else more “qualified,” he will have corrected and improved some things about the team because it literally couldn’t be ANY worse than the last 6 years just were. That’s part of the reason FZ had to be fired immediately, even if there is no plan in place yet as Dieter is claiming. The cancer had to be cut out immediately. The plan can begin its formation after that. This is BY FAR the best decision ownership has made in at least SIX years. No matter the outcome (which I think will actually more likely than not work out well). Could be wrong, definitely.. but I don’t think this video is going to age well in a year or two.

Part of leadership is having the best people around you with the shared desire to perform and excel and keeping everyone on board. What someone brings to the table can't be measured by a resume on its own. Overall, a great counterpoint to a negative take. Only time will tell but at least fans are excited about the Giants and are looking forward to what's next.

If someone hasn’t done something before, I’d imagine that it’s in their best interest to not try it at the highest level. I’ve never snowboarded a day in my life, but that doesn’t mean I should try it out for the first time at the x games.

Predictably, some got the wrong idea about Dieter over the summer. He's never been a friend of conventional baseball methods and heavily leans towards advanced metrics. He merely realized he couldn't be on the wrong side of history in specific regards to the "Farhan Question" (a wise decision, to be sure). Zaidi was an objectively awful lead executive, regardless of philosophy. I know if I were emotionally invested in the "analytics movement", I would have also been horrified/embarrassed by FZ's performance, if only for the mere fact that his example will serve as the perfect justification to resurrect old school gatekeeping. Which leads me to the reason why the Buster Posey coronation was actually a righteous one, even if it's a bold risk in a traditional pass/fail sense: Baseball operations ought to be gatekept. When left with the very real and binary choice between the "Good Ol' Boys" and the Burger King Kids Club, I'll gladly select the former. The two factions simply cannot coexist. The more "progressive" and "analytical" front offices cannot be trusted with basic tasks such as mistake prevention and situational awareness (fundamentals). That is the kiss of death in baseball, no matter how occasionally decent your prediction models are. Front office structure matters.

Finally! Someone with an informed take on just how foolish an idea this could potentially be. This is on ownership first and foremost. As long as this group is in charge, we will continue to be an irrelevant franchise. Greg Johnson is a fool who was just lucky to be born to the Johnson family because he is a royal moron. We have the WORST farm system in baseball right now, how on earth are we supposed to be perianal playoff contenders when we desperately need high end talent and no one will take our money!? Trade? No one wants our failed rejects! Without Zaidi's "min-maxing" we are going to collapse! PLAYOFF!? We need to rebuild! Fools out there think LORD POSEY is going to come and save us. HOW!? We are never going back to how things USED TO BE. We can and should learn from the past, but we desperately need to iterate and find a new formula for success and that is going to take planning and a lot of pain. We fans are no better than lizards, we absolutely refuse to do anything painful but want everything even though this franchise has done NOTHING to deserve it. I hope this is wrong and Lord Posey proves me wrong, but I highly doubt it.

At least someone spoke up about the negatives with the Buster Posey hire. The sports landscape is littered with great players who were terrible in an office role. Myself, I probably would have wanted someone with experience.

Really interesting when he said GMs manipulate the models to make the prospects seem better then they really are. Which is a great way to trade prospects for star players. Dodgers seem to trade alot of prospects that never seem to be good once they make it to the show.

Dieter way over his skis with these takes . all speculation . He was one of the last people to jump ship on Zaidi so his baseball takes have no weight as far as im concerned. Posey will be making him eat crow I guarantee it. Also I thought it was pretty cheap at the end to attack Buster's intelligence by the college he went to.

The Chapman contract goes well if he continues to win gold gloves, becomes our new pence, has some all star years and has at least 4 more years like he had this year and we reach the promise land within the first 4 years

Obviously DK’s take is not popular, but it’s spot on and I agree with it. It goes beyond FZ & BP. Fire FZ & install BP, but its ownership & the ownership board that’s the bigger issue. Like FZ, those in charge are NOT baseball people, running this organization to win championships. Johnson & the board are money people looking to make more money. Winning championships is not the objective of this group. Factor in the mediocre roster and a non productive farm system, and you’ve got a perfect recipe for long & dark drought for the SFG for a long time to come. Sadly, Buster is not the savior of this organization.

Dieter has always been tedious on the air - a reason I stopped listening to him when he was on KNBR. I get that his shtick is to always be a naysayer, and there are a bunch of folks out there who always want to take/listen to the negative take - but the act gets tired. Not that it all needs to be sunshine and rainbows, but when your MO is to always point out what you think is wrong, it's a drag. Will Buster be successful? Who knows? But the fact that he wants to surround himself with quality folks with experience and perspective to cover the facets that he's not an expert in, and he's humble enough to not always need to be the smartest guy in the room makes me optimistic that there's a shot at this working. I know there are people who just want baseball to be nothing more than a live strat-o-matic game, but there are a lot of other fans of the game who want to be entertained by a roster of talented players they can get familiar with and root for, who come together as a team and provide thrilling athletic moments to enjoy as they develop the day to day story of getting to a championship each season. The folks who are only interested in stats and probabilities and just see baseball as a numbers game where you plug in a formula to play the odds seem like the kind of people who would profess to love music, but only read sheet music and never actually listen to music. Different streaks for different freaks, but not every fan wants to see baseball turn into poker.
