I wouldn’t say Green Lantern is a bad film, it’s watchable enough and there are worse DC films out there (Superman 4 and Batman and Robin). People are saying this is the worst film because Ryan Reynolds had a terrible experience with it.

Dc movies are pretty hit or miss as is. For every The Suicide Squad there is, there is a Suicide Squad For every Wonder Woman, there is a Wonder Woman 1984 And for every Aqua Man, there is a Aqua Man And The Lost Kingdom Funny enough, the animated and LEGO movies have a pretty good track record

220 million isn't something to sniff at. They went too heavy on the budget. I was on board with the Hal Jordan story arc. They needed to half that budget and the movie would have been a middling success, at least enough for a sequel.

My only issue is they felt the need to change Hal's arc to be about overcoming fear. Hal is devoid of fear because of trauma, it's why the ring chooses him. A better arc would be him realizing his brashness and reckless tactics can sometimes yield collateral damage or put others at risk and learn to wield his abilities in a more controlled manner. He is after all, the greatest of the green lanterns, to quote the comics.

Green lantern was awsome. I love it to this day. I dont understand why all the media said it was bad. The movie was very comic accurate, the colora where great. The cast was perfect. Sinestro looks exactly like he did in the comics.

This movie suffers heavily from DC Movies’ biggest krypton it’s- trying to rush to a big story or threat that needs time to develop! Parallax is one of Hal’s biggest challenges in his lifetime- not the starting point of his origin. So much potential I’d wasted. Hal’s training within the corps and his relationship with Sinestro should have been the focus. The story should have ended with Hal learning to be a Green Lantern and facing off against his partner/mentor/Sinistetro. DC Movies are in a rush to showcase Death of Superman, Doomsday, Darkseid, etc. These are great moments and characters, but they need build up and layers which one movie alone cannot give them. It’s the writing that hurts these film stories.

Story was rushed. They wanted Jordan to be the greatest of all time within 2hrs. Luke Skywalker had 3 movies to defeat Darth Vader, Jordan defeated Parallax in 1. That’s too soon.

I always thought Green Lantern tried too hard to be a super hero movie. It tried to be an origin movie with a powerful villain in Hector Hammond, which, let's face it, isn't one of GL's best villains It tried to set up his arch nemesis in Sinestro becoming a Yellow Lantern at the end AND it threw in a mega villain in the form of Parallax If you did this over three movies, it would have been SO much better You forgot Ryan Reynalds OTHER superhero outing as Hannibal King in Blad: Trinity

The predominantly male audience of action hero movies (you know, the movies that tell a man who he's supposed to be, a protector, a lover, a worst-case-scenario solver, a hero) are not getting their role model quota. Instead they're getting "no no, women can be heroes too, so We're going to focus on women" And don't get me wrong, strong female characters are great like Leia Organa or Ripley, when they're still female at heart. When "strong female characters" are STRONG female characters, ie mary sues, it's unbelievable, unproductive, and factually harmful. I'll let someone else make those arguements, as they already have.

X-Men Origins Wolverine wasn’t Reynolds first superhero movie… he played Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity in 2005.

Geoff Johns - writer of Green Lantern - said that Ryan WAS Hal Jordan. I compared Hal from the book and then looked at Ryan and said to myself "No." Saw the film and that confirmed it. Ryan also said the character was very Han Solo. Again, no. And his performance confirmed that. All the film confirmed was that a writer didn't know bad acting from good acting and an actor didn't know the difference between any characters. Now, the animated series got it largely right with a rather Kirk-style Hal Jordan.

I loved this movie when it came out. Ryan Reynolds was perfect as Hal Jordan. It was a very good origin story for Green Lantern. Why people hated it so much I never understood. This was a fun movie and I love the director's cut even more. Maybe I'm just too much of a comic freak to be wondering about nonsensical things, but I wish this movie had more love than hate.

I agree, this movie is 100% watchable today(I watched it again last year). Ryan Reynold's eye color change and CGI mask are the biggest off-putting things, with his suit coming in second. I don't care if it's part of the comics or whatever, seeing a person you've seen in a bunch of movies as a basically regular person but with different color eyes is always the worst. If you wanna make the whites glow or whatever, fine but don't mess with the iris color. P.S. Corps is pronounced like "core" not "corpse", the ps is silent.

There were several key parts that either should've been explored more or cut altogether from it. imho 1)WTH was the "Parallax" cloud? (Obviously ripped from/seen previously in FF:ROTSS as the Smogalactus {Galactus} space cloud! 🤦) Knowing that in the story arc, Hal himself became Parallax, after having a mental breakdown, then eliminating alot of GL Corps members and taking their rings, he renamed himself Parallax (which is what 'a parallax view' of a stellar or planetary orbit as seen from Earth is!), because "I saw both sides of the problem, between the Guardians of OA and the GL Corps!" and took it upon himself to remedy that. 2) Why didn't they have Sinestro flip somewhere in the middle of the movie (like have Hal upstage him several times, after learning from the other GL Corps members and this enrages him to revenge), with earlier subtle hints at his eventual change, and could've also been the real reason (inadvertently) that Abin Sur was forced to crash on earth, then later (thus not needing the end credit scene as no sequel was explored) to become the Yellow ringbearer and main GL villain we all know, instead of the goofy Tim Robbins scientist son character, as Parallax rep on earth? 3) could've had Guy Gardiner (next GL after Hal in comics), Alan Scott (Golden Age GL before Hal), John Stewart next GL after Guy) and Kyle Rayner (last GL after 'Parallax" story arc) name drops or people Hal knew (perhaps at the gala, where Hal used the ring against the errant copter) in the movie, just to keep a sort of comics continuity. 🤷 4) Biggest one is: Why wasnt GL in the Justice League movie??? He had a solo movie, before both Aquaman and the Flush...uh I mean The Flash. Lol Yeah, he wasn't a regular due to being in space mostly, and not doing much with Darkseid and his group, but he was there in several iterations of the animated Superfriends, and alot of his comic dealings away from the Corps took place on earth! Just a few things I thought about. 🤷

Technically GL was his third superhero outing. Yall always forgot the Blade trinity movie. Green Lantern are more like the Nova Core, instead of the Guardian of the Galaxy. They should've uses practical effects instead of complete green screen CGI, esp the suit. Slso the villain were trash and the story was not streamlined, the story was all over the place. Lacking action is a no no in superhero movie. Ryan and Blake kill it in movies, but this movie script was dumpster fire.

I think this movie wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it at the time. I've read some of the comics. I would have considered it un-filmable. Considering how much worse it could have been. This was actually (relatively)good. I never got the hate for it.

I say its not super hero fatigue. Its bad writing and cheap cgi fatigue. This movie was ok for me until the the hot wheels track scene. Was just silly. I actually loved the cgi suit. Now he mentioned Cat Woman. Cat Woman was ok too but the cgi was horrible. Good writing, editing, acting and cgi make a great movie.

I think the big problem was the Hal Jordan written lacked character he was a bland golden age hero, I suspect if they went with a more intersting Lantern character such as John Stewart or even Guy Gsrdner would have made a more intersting story

I will maintain forever that Green Lantern still deserves cinematic redemption. I’ve always been a fan, and the series was firing on all cylinders in the years right before this movie dropped. Look up the Geoff Johns run sometime, you’ll see why they rolled the dice on this movie in the first place.

Green Lantern must either be in space or it must be on Earth. An excellent example of this are the two animated movies Justice League New Frontier and Green Lantern First Flight. The former has his origin and then an Earth adventure, and the latter has his origin and then the adventure is in space. This movie gives you whiplash going back and forth.

Me and my wife have always enjoyed this movie. We loved Ryan as a young, irresponsible Hal as he learns about responsibility, the action scenes, the rest of the cast and we even loved the Green Lantern uniform. What did we expect, green spandex?

I am not a huge fan of the "Super-Hero" films, but I did enjoy the Green Lantern as a stand alone film. Perhaps if I was a follower of the comic books and other Marvel films, I would think less of the film, but I really did enjoy it. And if they made $220,000,000, a lot of other people saw the film too, so maybe a sequel with a new director and better villain would be a lot better and make the big bucks that they were looking for?????? The scenes on Oa with the Green Lantern Corps were good. The rest of the movie was an eye sore. Frankly, Green Lantern: First Flight should have been the reference material for the movie.

This mic somehow makes it so much more intimate and personable. Keep it maybe. at least for a lil' bit and YES! Fight back against that whole generation of KZbinrs that convinced people that talking about stuff they didn't enjoy was a better use of time than sharing things they do. Engagement farming changed people in a lame manner, and I find that sad.

I been collecting comics since 1970s..my personal opinion is.the,as always WB screwed up as usual.for one since there's not to many people that no comic heroes,other than like Superman.they pushed to much tofast at the general public.like the corp ,whole planet of green lanterns,parallax,hector hammond,and more .they should have just stuck with . learning who GL is,getting his ring from abin sur.and maybe sinestro maybe looking for Sur to kill him before he reaches earth.let people learn who gl is.then if theres a movie two.then add and explain his history..i liked the movie

I remember going to see GL in 3-D at the cinema and being very disappointed upon watching the film,very disappointed.TOO much cgi,too many holes in the plot/storyline,Hal Jordan was never a screw-up-EVER-he was a top-gun pilot.But,I have a copy of the GL movie next to me and will give it another look,thanks to your video,which was well done.

It wasn't the worst, but it was made for the fans, and they were the ones most letdown. I didn’t follow Green Lantern, so I found myself wondering what was going on. If they had taken the time to develop an interesting back story, I would have definitely found it more engaging. Like I said, it wasn't the worst. Hell, I even rewatched Wolverine Origins recently. I'm still not impressed, so maybe this DOES deserve a rewatch (eventually)🙂.

I didn't think this movie was that bad. The Green Lantern CGI looks fine, especially during the My big fight scenes. PARALLAX was a dull villain and Sinestro should've been it. At least Ryan found Blake Lively in the movie.

The GL Corps is more analogous to the Nova Corps, not so much the Guardians of the Galaxy. I wouldn't say this movie is awful, and there are definitely worse superhero films of the past 20 years...but overall it's a pretty big swing and miss. Very little world building on Oa and with the corps in general, a pretty uninspiring villain, and rushed character arcs, especially for Sinestro.

Parallax was a dumb inclusion, and Sinestro should have been fleshed-out more, as he is a much deeper character than was explored...but, Ryan's Hal Jordan was well done, and his "creations of will" were straight out of the comic books. I've watched this movie a few times now and still don't understand all the hate it gets. Is it a GREAT superhero movie? No. But, it's not an utter horror, either. It kind of reminds me of Spider-Man 3...trying to cram too much into one movie, to make too much happen, too quickly. Studios need to learn that "patience is a virtue"...
