I'm sorry, but a well polished panel does *not* sheet water quickly. I went through a very thorough stripping process in the past week. I used Adam's Strip Wash, then Black and Plasticoat Iron remover, then Optimum Power Clean (1:3), then claying with Meguiar's professional fine clay (Mirror Glaze line from Japan) with Meguiar's Final Inspection as lube. After a wash I used Prep-All, then Sonax Perfect Finish, then Prep-All again. I finished run Jescar's new autowash as a replacement for Carpro Reset. My paint is brilliant and will be sealed today. But that last wash was surprisingly hard to dry because the water stuck to the paint. My leaf blower worked very hard to push some water off. I used a towel and *still* ended up with some tiny waterspots on a couple of vertical panels.
@theplayernkc4 жыл бұрын
@@skzion2 Sounds like the one step process with the Sonax Perfect Finish wasn't enough to get you the needed smooth clear coat.
@skzion24 жыл бұрын
@@theplayernkc An old comment, but ... The panels already had nothing on them before the Sonax. That series of chemical and physical removal products removed a not-very-tenacious wax from a car wash tunnel that and about a 6 month old application of Car Guys Sealant (I was new to all this). After the Sonax, the surface was great. But it wasn't really bad before. It had minor damage and an occasional swirl. Water does bead on a newly polished panel. But the beads are larger and poorly formed and less regular. And, wiping them off is more of a bother. This makes sense because clear coat is not hydrophobic. Skip the Reset and use Prep-All. Meguiar's Final Inspection can also be used because the boost in gloss highlights paint defects.

Couple things... 1. You are right, CarPro Eraser really isn't needed as an APC can do the same thing, remove polishing oils. 2. I would guess after polishing the right panel, the water was not sheeting well due to the polishing oils clogging the panel. When you used CarPro Eraser, it cleared out the oils so the panel was smoother and therefore could sheet faster. Polished surface plus no oils left behind could equal faster sheeting even without a wax/sealant on it. Great video

I would never use an apc before applying a coating. Who knows what kind of residue it would leave behind
@glumdogtrillionaire5 жыл бұрын
Bro, you gotta start getting into the chemistry behind products, your process will become more refined and the behaviour of the product will begin to make more sense. Eraser, IPA, most panel wipes were brought to be market due to their prepping ability but only down to light oils and fingerprints. Yes, a degreaser or APC will do the same job of removing oils however they leave residue of trace chemicals which means it has to be cleaned with something else before applying a bonding protectant. This is where an IPA based panel wipe comes in. The alcohol helps to emulsify the oils and lift them into your microfiber then flashes (evaporates) without leaving anything behind. The wiping action and clean microfiber is the most important part of that process, akin to not scratching your paint while waterless/rinseless washing, you want a perfectly clean side with each pass. To find out more info about all of this, go speak to a restoration body shop and ask what they use to prep a panel before painting. Their process has to be as perfect as possible otherwise they’re spending more time and money redoing paintwork. You’ll find they use solvent based chemicals that can remove grease and silicone as well as anything lighter. This is the key to true panel prep prior to coating. The above is also the reason I’ve suggested you properly wash a panel in between your chemical destruction tests to ensure you’re only seeing water behaviour based on the bonded protective layer rather than trace chemicals.
@KWW03215 жыл бұрын
100% correct, mineral spirits works great. I'm just surprised he didnt realize why the water was behaving that way and responded to a comment saying water wouldn't sheet that fast if the panel was clean. Water behavior isn't always an indication of what is or isn't on the panel.

Eraser is a safe product, a lot of people myself included don’t necessarily trust the use of IPA nor want to take the time to figure out a proper dilution ratio and there’s all the different percentages. It makes life a little easier, product of convenience more or less. It smells good and it’s easy to use, plus they do claim anti static properties to help repel dust particles. I don’t think there is a wrong or right when it comes to this product, it’s not gonna remove a wax, it will remove polish safely, that’s it.

I make my own IPA spray. 320ML of demonized water + 80ML of 99.9% alcohol. The cost to make 400ML is like 2$. If you need a bit more fighting power to help break grease / oils down add a cap full or half cap of your favorite de-greaser to it.
@barrycook81165 жыл бұрын
Being honest this video on carpro eraser didn’t prove anything. How do we know if it didn’t really remove polishing oils? You based it off how fast it sheets? Plus it prepares the paint after polishing to prepare whatever protection you want to apply. It’s has its place and I use IPA and eraser depending on what I am doing. Furthermore, with ammo skin I have applied it to many customers cars and actually was stripping a couple of car that had it applied and I decon with iron remover and tar X and after did a IPA wipe down after and it still beaded water ever time. One test means nothing. Ammo skin is a good quality sealant IMO and one bottle had gone almost 60 coats.

If carpro eraser contains alcohol & aceton. It will repel water for some time because it will make a compound from polishing material together with alcohol & aceton. This will be working as a light sealant like glass repellant such as Rain-x water repellent. To remove that you need a fair car wash after using carpro or any oil remover. I suggest to use degreaser+any non wax shampoo.

I believe Rupes polishes are water based, so the water would have clung to the surface with water based residue on it.....then eraser removed that residue and left bare polished clear which will sheet water fast. There’s no (or little) imperfections in the surface for the water to cling to. It clings to itself and pulls itself off the panel. Makes sense to me.

It would be a good test to see a panel polished & one side wiped with a panel prep & the other left & then a coating of some sort applied to see if they are in fact removing these oils & how or if it affects the durability of the coating since that’s why most of us use a panel prep. Maybe even comparing a Gyeon or Carpro to something like Dupicolor panel prep which most body shops tend to use
@freshrides99755 жыл бұрын
I think what you should do, is polish each side of your panel and then wipe one side with your prep product then don’t prep the other side. THEN, apply the same protection to each side and see if the non-prepped side fails sooner than the prepped side. That will tell you how truly a prep product works (for the most part). Because theoretically the protection should bond MUCH better to a prepped surface giving it much more durability and longevity. If that’s not the case then what’s the point of prepping a surface before a LSP

You’re still over thinking it. My understanding is that it’s the last step to ensure there’s no finger prints or polishing oils that would weaken the bond of your coating or sealant....thereby improving durability. It provides a “slicker” and less grabby application than a raw IPA/H2O mix in my experience. Your criticism of its price and limited use is fair....but that’s what it’s for, a final panel wipe to help ensure oily spots on the panel don’t accept your last step as well.

This stuff is so slick it’s incredible I tried it next to Adams Ceremic liquid wax. Slicker than that and more hydrophobic. Anyway I have two coats of that on. And two coats of P21S carnauba paste wax. Wow this stuff goes on and comes off so easy. And the ice paste wax is in bed neither. But anyway I put 4oz of purple power vehicle and boat in my foam cannon. Filled it up with nice warm water give it a shake in phoned m filled up with nice warm water able to shake And foamed my car dwell time right at 5 minutes. Rinsed it and nothing not even a small dent in the wax. The wax beaded just like it would have if I just put it on 10 minutes ago absolutely ridiculous I could not believe it did not do one thing. So I repeated the process. Only I went up from 4 ounces to 7 1/2 ounces and the dwell time I increased it to seven minutes. And the same result nothing not a dent nothing at all the water beaded like it was fresh wax. What is going on WTF. Is this wax just that good. I don’t think so. Maybe it is I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong. All comments are welcome thank you.

Down the rabbit hole once again. Observational conclusions can only take one so far. There are too many variables in chemical based substances to draw complete conclusions. Proceed at your own risk. Although interesting and an endless source of videos, “conclusive obervational” results are always suspect due to the lack of science at hand. There are probably four things we can count on, 1. reputable manufacturers produce products to coexist with other products they manufacturer within a given space as spelled out in their literature. 2. No manufacturer worth their salt will guarantee the use of their product A with a differing manufacturers B product. 3. For every mashup that is successful there are probably dozens if not more that are not for one reason or another. 4. There is not a you tube detailer alive who has the equipment to scientifically prove anything they say when it comes to chemical composition/compatability & their performance indicators. KIS Keep It Simple for best results. ps: this is not a rant about Jimbo or his channel (I am a subscriber). My apologies for hijacking your platform to rant a little. Peace Out.
