So Tony's dad Howard discovered the new element but technology wasn't advanced enough to synthesize it yet, thats why he left the blueprint behind for Tony. Tony did have the technology to synthesize the element and finish what his father started

So you are correct, the "light" (reactor port) on Iron Man's chest is usually a circle but it varies depending on which model of suit he is wearing. This time it was to signify that after he developed the new core, he had Jarvis fabricate a new suit(the Mark VI). In the first movie he built and wore Mark I(Afghanistan escape), the Mark II(the silver prototype that Rhodes stole in this movie and turned into War Machine), the Mark III(which is the one he wears to fight Obediah), the Mark IV (the one he wears to kick off the Stark Expo in this movie), the Mark V(the suitcase portable version), and finally the Mark VI(new elemental core). You are going to see a ton more in Iron Man 3.

@@TheOctobersReact Especially in the early movies they don't really come out and say the bad guys names from the comic to try and make it less cheesy, but they will reference them. Iron Monger was the bad guy in Iron Man 1. He mentions it to Tony, "We're Iron Mongers, it's what we do!" The Hulk had 'the Abomination' which is only mentioned by the scientist who gives him the last bit of what turns him into that, "I am just saying the mixture could be an abomination." He turns into 'the leader' when you see his head pulsing... it then gets dropped and you never see him again (at least to date, sounds like that will change). In this one it was Whiplash. Again, never really mentioned here, but that was indeed his name.

Whiplash has always been one of my favorite Iron Man villains in the comics. I loved the fact he was the main villain in this movie. Fun Fact: The young child with the Iron Man mask that Tony saved was retconned by Tom Holland to actually be a young Peter Parker.

I remember how thrilled I was to finally see War Machine in live action after being a fan of the character for so long in the comics and even the 90's animated Iron Man series. Don Cheadle killed it as Rhodey and that epic battle against the drones where both he and Tony just demolish them was so badass on the big screen. Sidenote: The kid wearing the Iron Man mask at 48:03 was later retconned to be a young Peter Parker.

even with Rhodes taking the suit, if you noticed, he takes the arc reactor from them so they can't study it. he keeps it until the suit is ready and needs to be powered up. then and only then does he put the arc into the suit. as pissed as he is at Tony, he won't give the arc to the govt bc he knows Tony doesn't trust the govt with his weapons after what happened in the first movie.

@TheOctobersReact yeah when they pull it out n start talking about it, Rhodes goes "this isn't a science experiment" n takes the Arc away from the soldier. He knows Tony no longer trusts the govt with his tech. He kept Tonys proprietary tech safe. Also, Rhodes was able to enter into Tony's lab because Tony has codes for 2 other people: Virginia and Rhodes. That's also why he didn't steal the suit n why Tony wasn't rushing to get it back. Tony coded his suits to fit Rhodes n Virginia just in case they needed protecting, especially from things he might've caused.

The shield actually appeared in the first movie. It was just something the set decorators stuck in a corner of Tony’s lab. Eagle eyed fans saw it and freaked out about it so they brought it back, just so Tony could use it as a shim. (It’s not the *real* Captain America shield. It’s someone’s attempt to recreate it.)

The Iron Man suit in the briefcase is a shout out to the Iron Man comics of the late 60's and 70's, where Tony kept collapsed pieces of his armor in a briefcase he carried with him. He had to wear the chestplate at all times, because of the shrapnel near his heart.

It’s still hard to believe that they included Randy’s Donuts in this film. I just wish they still sold those muffins with filling. Those were my favorites years ago. My favorite part of the whole film was seeing Tony and Rhodey (Iron Man and War Machine) destroying robots together. Also, we can’t go wrong with their comedy.

Peter and his parents made a appearance in the first avengers movie but that got cut out so I think Kevin feige redcon him losing his parents during the Stark expo. That also would explain how Tony knew about Peter's power his been watching him ever since then. Tony could have gave Peter visitor pass to The avengers Tower and Peter could have got bit by a radioactive spider from Doctor banner's lab and that's what Tony felt so responsible for Peter.

Marvel didn't know if the first Iron Man movie would be a success, so they only signed 1 film contracts for the actors. The actor for Rhodie in the first film wasn't available for this one, so they recast it. Since then they have signed actors to 3-film contracts so that problem doesn't happen again.

@@bryce253 Since we've already covered this it in this film, I should note that Tony is (in the comics) an alcoholic, which was led into that story where Rhodey first becomes Iron Man. I am guessing that RDJ didn't want to portray that aspect of the character (because of his own RL issues), but I thought it was a nice homage to the comics that Rhodey first puts the suit on because Tony is drunk. Similarly, the bit where Happy saves Tony from Vanko at the racetrack by hitting Vanko with the car is a shout out to the comics where Tony meets Happy when Tony crashes his race car and Happy pulls him from the wreck and saves his life.

Nop it was written on the Arc Reactor blueprint.....Antone Venko aka the bad guy's dad and Howard Stark aka Tony's father. They built the huge arc reactor that exploded in the end of Ironman 1. So the bad guy has the blueprint and was able to replicate it.

Re-cast, Colonel James Rhodes (Rhodey as Tony calls him) was recast from Cuba Gooding, Jr. to Don Cheadle but it is the same character. Doesn't matter that he fought him. Force doesn't change stealing to justified taking. I mean, if I fight Mr. October then drive off with his car, I've still stolen his car. Doesn't matter that I fought him first, it's still his car. I'm not sure where you got the idea that Tony is trying to get off this planet. That isn't his goal. I do not believe the shield is Captain America's shield. Tony has a large number of things that belonged to his father, whom we learned in this movie was a founding member of SHIELD. The shield used in this would be a model or mock up for development purposes. It also doesn't appear to be broken as much as incomplete or partially dismantled. Iron Man's central chest component, most of the time in the comics had a circle, but there have been periods where the central piece changed shape in certain generations of the suit.

Pay attention to the end credit scenes, they give context to the next movie in the MCU. If you had watched the end credit scene in the Hulk movie you would have known it was part of the MCU.

I think a film you guys would enjoy is "Tombstone." As for Marvel, the MCU isn't all of it. From Iron Man to Endgame is like one long story, and then the MCU meanders on afterward. Outside the MCU, you've got the 3 Blade movies, 3 Spider-Man movies (Toby), 2 additional Amazing Spider-Man movies (Garfield), 2 Ghost Rider films, and like a dozen X-Men / Wolverine / Deadpool films. There's a few more too, like the Fantastic Four, Venom, the Daredevil and Elektra movies, etc. And on top of that, there's the old Netflix Marvel shows that are now on Disney+, like Daredevil (which is some of the best Marvel has ever produced) and Jessica Jones. So if you wanted to do some Marvel aside from the Monday MCU, there is material that doesn't intersect.

Great reaction! A retrospective origin story in a way for the Vankos, as Anton, who helped Tony's dad Howard with the arc reactor (I believe the blueprints are for the ginormous one we saw at the end of the first Iron Man and not the one Tony made, though Ivan also being a genius physicist can easily adapt the original to a small version like Tony did), dies at the start of this and we learn about Anton's origin story, such as it was, in retrospect as Tony learns. And some about the origin story of Tony's dad Howard too (though we get even more of Howard's origin story in the future). Also, Mickey Roarke was incredible as Ivan Vanko/Whiplash. You didn't comment on it, but at the arrival in Monaco the man at the table Tony met and shook hands with was Elon Musk. Palladium's toxicity is taking its toll on poor Tony. Heck, if I knew I was dying, and fairly quickly, I'd take dumb risks too. And I sure did back when I thought I was dying quickly, so I get the mindset. Still tough. Natalie Rushman/Natasha Romanov is such an awesome character. Gosh, I hope we get to see her in future projects too. (Of course we will.) My gosh, I hate the Justin Hammer character SO MUCH! 😀I spent this whole movie hoping SOMEBODY would just kill him. In cold blood. Off him because he's such a PITA! Royally! Fury's "You haven't tried everything." is such a great step forward for Tony. Love it! Foreshadowing. Much like Fury's apparent throwaway comment about having bigger problems in the southwest region to deal with. 😀 I lost my dad to cancer this past year, so seeing Howard's heartfelt message to Tony on the old films still makes me tear up, even more than it did when I first saw it. They did such a great job with these early films! Coulson: "I've been reassigned to New Mexico." See previous comment about Fury's bigger problems. Also, Coulson is fricking awesome, period. "I'll taze you and watch Supernanny while you drool into the carpet." Priceless! 😀 I think it is an old prototype mockup of Iron Man's shield that was part of Howard's stuff. Maybe foreshadowing that there's a Cap movie coming up? Hmmm. 😛 Ivan doesn't know about the new element, but, luckily, his arc reactor is external instead of connected to his body to keep him alive. Palladium doesn't bother Ivan as much. And, frankly, even if it would kill him, he wouldn't care so long as he destroyed Tony in the process. That battle scene was great. The first movie was better to me, but it was an origin story and I like those. The end credit scenes tend to call out to the next movie, so now you know, in this instance, that the Thor movie is next. And it also explains Fury and Coulson's foreshadowing mentioned above. 🙂

They replaced Howard with Cheadle because they were trying to underpay Howard. Howard was actually the one that convinced the studio to consider Downey, so this was truly a slap in the face. While Cheadle is my distant relative, I think Howard was better in the role of Rhodes.

I'm really curious as to why Kate Mara(the woman who gave Tony the summons)was randomly in one scene in this one, just seems odd they would use a well known actress for one scene where she only had around 30ish seconds of screentime. Don Cheadle takes over the role of Rhodey from here on in the MCU(Terrence Howard wanted more money but an agreement couldn't be reached). Also, Peter Parker makes a small appearance in this one(he's the kid in the Iron Man mask that Tony Saves). This is also the MCU debut of Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanov aka Black Widow. Fun fact: the reporter from Vanity Fair(she's seen with Justin Hammer in this one) is Leslie Bibb, who has been dating Sam Rockwell since 2007.

These first couple of MCU movies were produced by Universal Not Disney ,, hence the violence.. Disney did not really come into thr picture till around the First Avengers movie .. And Iron Man 3

That end credit scene for thor's hammer and the scene of tony meeting General Ross from Hulk is all part of the same week. I believe its called "Fury's Big Week". Marvel released a limited run comic series on it that is an official tie-in to the MCU. Fury got busy.

It's really great that you guys are enjoying the MCU ... yeh this movie was great (they're all great, honestly, except for one or two out of the whole 23) If you're interested, they're making a movie now for Rhodey's War Machine called Armor Wars, should be out next year. He's a great character, too. Vastly under-used in the MCU. But yeh, good stuff. Looking forward to you discovering even more movies later. :)

He's definitely part of Marvel, but technically not MCU.. Incase no one has said anything, Spidy (everything villains all likeness etc.) were sold to Sony when Marvel was still just a comic book, trying to stay afloat. There are Toby McGuire /Andrew Garfield /Tom Holland Spidys, so watch them all as well. They might be worth having some background on. 👍👍

@@TheOctobersReact miles (I believe) is still Sony. Sony has been playing fair since fox was messing around with the x-men and Disney just straight bought fox and now the x-men are home. If Sony fs around too much the mouse might come for them too. If you notice most if not all the Spider-Man games are only on Playstations as well, cause Sony. I would also recommend the Venom movies as well so you understand symbiotes. They had them in Toby's Spider-Man 3 but not very well.

Now that you've seen "Iron Man 2", you can watch the "Marvel One-Shots". These are short videos that add a little more to the stories you've already seen. The first is "The Consultant", which takes place after the events of "Incredible Hulk" and "Iron Man 2". The next is "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer", which, like the title suggests, happens just before "Thor", and can be viewed either before or after "Thor". "Item 47" was released next and should be viewed after (definitely not before) "The Avengers". "Agent Carter" was released as an extra on the "Iron Man 3" dvd / blu-ray, but can be viewed after "Captain America: The First Avenger". And finally, "All Hail The King" was a follow-up to the events of "Iron Man 3". I believe you can watch all of these one-shots on youtube. Just be advised, look for the ones with the longest run times, as some of the videos with the same name are actually just scenes from the actual videos.

Please also watch the Spiderman trilogy of Tobey Maguire version. Then The amazing Spiderman and The amazing Spiderman 2 of Andrew Garfield version and then Venom and Venom let there be carnage these two movies. Please do watch all these movies because first of all all are good and secondly it will connect to the MCU later on. Many things are coming across your way just wait and watch 😊. Also react to the Daredevil series.
