In actual Norse Mythology Thor is described having long RED hair and a RED beard and his hammer Mjölnir is described having the potential to destroy a whole mountain in one swing and Thor needs special gloves and a belt to hold it because the hammer is immensely heavy.

In the comics, Odin sometimes goes into the “Odin Sleep”. He is so powerful that sometimes, he has to “recharge”. By the time of this film, it’s been so long since the last time he recharged. The “Odin Sleep” was created in Marvel Comics, not the actual Norse Mythology to give an excuse so Odin isn’t always there to help Thor.

In Norse myth, Loki is actually Thor's uncle, not his brother, and is responsible for the creation of many artifacts that the Aesir (the high gods) use (mostly because of pranks that he then had to make up for). You can always count on Loki to be on Loki's side, whether that's for good or for ill.

As a Danish person, I've grown up with vikingness, learning the stories of dozens of famous vikings, learning about Nordic mythology (like the stories of Thor), once a year lived a whole weekend as the vikings did (Danish version of "summer camp"), and even learned to read and write Futhark, the writing of our ancestors. This is the custom of most school in Denmark, something that's just a part of our childhood. This is genuinely the first time I've seen adults watch something related to my culture, and you don't know anything about it. It feels strange, as I'm used to talk to people who just... *knows* this as their second nature. Very interesting reaction to this movie.

"So they act like Vikings?" Thor, Loki, Odin, Asgard is all based in Norse Mythology...these are the Gods the real life Vikings worshipped. Marvel just took a loose adaption and made him a superhero. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla has done the same thing (though the Asgard stuff in that game is more accurate to the source than Marvel's is) as that game takes place during the Viking time period. The current God of War games also have their own adaption of it right now.

Yup! Back in the day, Stan Lee wanted more superheroes. So he turned to mythology - Thor from the Norse Gods. Hercules from the Greek Gods, etc. So in the MCU and the comics, Asgard (Norse), Mount Olympus (Greek), are all real, just different planets, spaces, etc. It was a great way to expand the Marvel Comics Universe and tap into lots of ancient cultures different mythologies. Best of all, no copyrights to worry about "absorbing" their characters/gods into the MCU.

Pecos Bill Rides a Tornado! I had that book when I was a kid. I have a soft spot for Loki. He was lied to for his entire life. He was made to believe that if he could prove he was more worthy than Thor that he could be King, but this was yet another lie. When he found out the truth, he didn't know who he was anymore. I think he wanted to destroy Jotunheim to prove to Odin that he wasn't a Frost Giant at heart. He wanted to be Asgardian. He wanted to be who he always thought he was. Yes, he went about it all wrong, but Odin taking away all of Loki's hope when he was literally hanging on for his life was a really crappy thing to do.

He was lied to all of his life by his so called father Odin, even when Frigga asked for him to tell Loki the truth. Thor allowed for his friends to mock Loki’s magical abilities, he even did too. Where was the love?? Frigga was the ONLY one who genuinely loved Loki and believed in him. The rest treated Loki awfully in comparison to how Thor was treated. The Warriors Three & Lady Sif gave Thor blind loyalty even at the expense of their own lives, Heimdall too. Where was that for Loki even though his intentions were in the right place for Asgard? Nowhere to be found. They all went against him. But these are the same people who went with Thor even when Thor’s intentions weren’t entirely good, but they still supported him anyway. @vegaxgomez Please..when was Loki exactly mocked for his magic by his friends in the Thor movie? moreover Thor achieved his praise and status bc, wait for it, he earned it in countless battles. The fact is Thor excelled in combat and Loki didn't which is why he turned to being a magic user..that's what's happened and Loki being jealous of it isn't Thors fault. Dont we tell ppl to be the best you can be, well Thor excelled in a world that greatly value battle and phy ability..both you and Loki need to get over it...Loki was salty and using this as a bo-hoo for me and that was long before he knew about his birth origins ( it's the reason he tried to spoil Thors ceremony) And once again I will restate, Loki grew up in luxury in place where he would never know want...I would bet many would give anything to be in Loki shoes growing up esp when Odin could have LEFT HIM TO DIE AS A BABY. Loki needed to stop crying and show some gratitude. Guy should have died a baby but grew up a prince and still complains.

@@shootingreal5945 there’s multiple deleted scenes that actually show just how much Loki’s achievements are discredited by Thor, his friends and even Odin. Before Thor’s coronation when he walks out to the crowd. Him and Loki have a conversation, and there was a discussion about a battle in Nornheim. Thor acted as if he was the one who helped them escape and win, and Loki corrected him by saying that he was the one who veiled them all in smoke so they could escape. Thor allowed even the servants to laugh at Loki’s magical abilities and was laughing himself, Loki was bothered by it. Then before they stormed to Jotunheim, Loki tried to take initiative with Heimdall which was shut down by Thor stepping in and got the free pass pretty much straight away. Volstagg walks past Loki saying “what happened? Silver tongue turn to lead?” And was laughing at him. Mocking Loki for his efforts, again. A lot of Loki’s efforts got either mocked or discredited, others took all of the credit and didn’t even bother to give him credit where it’s due. Even though, Loki deserved the praise and status for saving their lives twice through his quick thinking and magical powers, those times where Thor was the one who put their lives in massive danger in the first place. But no, Thor gets the credit? Thor gets the praise and status? Thor gets the loyalty? Yeah Loki might’ve had the financial stability, but that was about it. There was neglect and also a very chaotic environment that is bound to have an effect on mental health and emotional development. He didn’t have friends of his own, they all chose Thor. His father? Emotionally neglectful and a major narcissist. Frigga was the only solid good person in his life. In the deleted scenes, it also shows that Frigga gave Loki the throne, not Loki stealing it or just taking it, he got it from the orders of Frigga. Deleted scenes show all of this. But for some reason, y’all refuse to hold anybody around Loki accountable for their actions and wonder why Loki became the way he did in the end.

Thor and Asgard and all associated concepts are in public domain. Anybody can use them, even Assassins Creed. (A comic company that split from Marvel in the early 1990s had its own Thor.). The specific costume used by Thor here is Marvel property and some of the Asgardian characters in this movie are Stan Lee creations (the Warriors Three, the Destroyer), but Thor is as much in the public domain as is Thursday, which is named for him. (Wednesday is named for Odin, who was spelled Wotan back in the day, and Friday is named for Frygga [Thor's mother]. 43% of our week is named for this family. No wonder Loki feels left out. According to the naming convention... Thor Odinson is equivalent to Thor, son of Odin. Loki Laufeyson, Loki son of Laufey. Phil Coulson, Phil son of Coul...😅 So in Norse mythology there are nine linked realms. Linked together by Ygdrassil the World Tree. The nine realms are Asgard (Asgardians), Vanaheim (Vanir), Jotunheim (Frost Giants), Alfheim (Light Elves), Svartalfheim (Dark Elves), Midgard (Earth - Humans), Muspelheim (Fire Demons), Niflheim (no living creatures) and Helheim (Abode of Hela, goddess of death). 😮 Heimdall is the Guardian of the Nine Realms and possesses the ability to see anything within the Nine Realms. Lifting Thor's enchanted hammer Mjolnir isn't a matter of strength. You have to be worthy. "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor". - Odin Loki is the god of Mischief, a trickster. Known for his powerful illusions and use of deception. He would backstab you in a heartbeat in order to gain his ambitions. The Destroyer armor. This is not in Norse Mythology but is in Marvel Comics Asgardian lore. The armor was created by Odin as a failsafe to protect Asgard from its many enemies. Possessed of supernatural strength, supernatural endurance, supernatural durability and energy blasts that could cut a skyscraper in half. Since it is an empty suit of armor it requires an Asgardian soul to animate it and direct its will. 😮

If you guys haven’t seen any Star Wars movies, you might want to watch the OG trilogy from the late 70’s early 80’s before diving into any of Kevin Smith’s films, it is not a requirement to understand Kevin’s movies, it just helps enhance the jokes and references. “Clerks” from 1994 is Kevin’s first film and a great place to start in the View Askewniverse!!!

The thing with the Hulk is sort of that he grows in strength to meet the obstacle or danger, so unless you can beat him quickly he is "unbeatable"; there's a comic where tony stark puts him in a lab to test his strength and changes the pressure in the chamber to mimic outer space and other worlds with heavier gravity, and tony sees new muscles and bones rapidly growing inside the hulk with his scanners, and when he decides to crank it up to knock him out so he can turn back into bruce banner, he realizes he had waited too long and the hulk was adapting faster than he could turn the machine up, and he ultimately breaks out and goes on a rampage destroying the lab. Thor is probably naturally stronger at his base level and can do things Hulk can't do, but with time the Hulk grows stronger than anyone (or at least in theory).

End credit scenes are usually a clue to the next film in the series. Background: Asgard isn't a natural planet. It is flat instead of round like normal planets and uses artificial gravity. Asgardians are also not a natural race. They are all much stronger than humans, and some have extra powers like Heimdall, Thor and Odin. They also have very long lifespans, about 5000 years. All of this was set up with advanced technology to bring peace to an unruly region of space. The battle with the Frost Giants was in 932 A.D., and Odin was telling the story to his young sons not long afterwards. The battle and other visits by Asgardians was also supposed to be the origin of Norse mythology. That mythology is a real historical thing: Four of our days are named after them: Tiw (Tuesday) god of war, Woden/Odin (Wednesday) god of heroes and knowledge, Thor (Thursday) god of thunder, lightning, and storms, and Freya (Friday) wife of Odin and mother of Thor. Loki historically is a trickster god of mischief. He's that in the MCU too, but born a Frost Giant rather a Norse god. He was taught magic by his mother, who in turn was raised by witches. His special abilities include illusion/shapeshifting and mind-reading/control. In the end credit he used his "secret path" to Earth, invisibility illusion, and mental influence on Selvig to get him to work on the blue glowing cube.

I only found your channel today. I'm working my way through your MCU reactions. Based on how it's going so far, you're probably going to have a sub from me by the time I get to your most recent reaction available today. Thor was the Norse god of Thunder, the character of Thor in Marvel is a "version" of why the Norse believed in their deities. As presented in Marvel they are a race from another world, and were perceived as "gods" by the humans of Earth. (And watching what they can do, you can see why people would perceive these beings as gods. Asgard in Norse Mythology was the "home of the gods", and Assassin's Creed borrowed from the same Norse legends, thus there would be parallels. Think of it about 2 novels written about the same series of events, told from the knowledge of different 'witnesses' to an event. If you are both witness to an event, but separately tell your story of what happened, there will be a log of agreement in what you recount, but there will be differences as well, because you are 2 different people telling the events. 6:55-7:05 "That looked like a Tony Stark suit" Funny you should say that... 10:00 King Kong is not Nintendo... Donkey Kong is. (easy mistake, both are apes, both named Kong. But I will say there's a _little bit_ of a size difference. 12:00-12:15 Loki was the Norse god of Mischief. Most mythologies have one. A mischief maker, a trickster, a deceiver. Before the kill of the huge beast, Thor had called for the bridge to be opened so they could retreat. Now they have been fighting, their escape route is cut off, and they have a few warriors to fight an entire world of Frost Giants. That's what the dramatic moment at 13:56-14:06 is. That realization moment, of "we are greatly outnumbered, and we have no way out, because the enemy knows we're here and they are about to pounce en masse." 16:24-16:36 There was no time travel involved. Remember in the opening, Odin mentions they (Asgard) have faded into to the myths and legends of humanity. These are the same "people" who came to Earth centuries ago creating the mythology by their intervention on Earth. Or more properly, as would be explained in Doctor Who (Not a Marvel movie/series, but an entirely unrelated TV series, the Asgardians reached from the world shown in the recap to the present, "via the slow path" they lived through all that time. Odin wasn't young when the battle was on Earth with the Frost Giants. Thor and Loki were barely babies, This should give you an idea how long they live -- Translation, they live many centuries) 23:40-23"42 "They do that in Asgard, they act like vikings?" Since the Norse mythos originated among Vikings, this should come as no surprise. But it makes one ask, did the Vikings teach Asgard, or did Asgard teach the Vikings this particular behavior? Look at Doctor Eric Selvig, Eric/Erik/Erick is a traditional name in Scandinavia, Selvig is very likely Scandinavian family name, or at least from that region. He mentions the :"stories growing up" which would be part of the history in that region of the world, whether anyone still believed them or just thought of them as stories, like Hercules/Heraclese of Greek mythology, which would include Zeus and Poseidon, Hades and many more (I did a bit of study of various historical mythologies when I was young) Although it won't replace her research, at least Agent Coulson handed her a check in compensation for what they were taking. Normally a seizure like that would be "we're here, we're taking your stuff. See if a court will order us to return it. Bye." I believe, Thor recognized, that when his father stripped him of his power, is when he took the hammer, Mjolnir. When he heard the description of it, he knew it had been sent through, as a means to return, but Thor was unaware that Odin had linked Mjolnir to being "worthy" So, in Thor's mind, it was "I get to my hammer, I have my power back, thus his "I'm going to fly out" He knows he doesn't have his powers as he goes into the site, but expects to have them once he reaches Mjolnir. (and as an Asgardian, he's still much stronger than the humans in his way) 35:50-35:54 "How does he know how to dress, and Thors..." Loki, being a mischief maker, adjusts his appearance or makes himself appear to be in other places. It is simple to blend in by observing a few people's wardrobe and 'magically' changing your appearance. It's a lot harder to blend in, when you actually need the physical clothing to wear. 41:20-41:26 Remember, Loki, in the position of king, commanded Heimdall to "Open the bifrost to no one" [The bifrost being the Ranbow Bridge] Loki failed to command "Do not let anyone access the bridge" Heimdall cannot open the bridge for them without disobeying a king's command. Walking away and leaving it unlocked doesn't violate the command. 44:21 [Please refer back to my comment about 6:55-7:05 ] 55:12-55:19 Thor is breaking the bridge, because it's the only way to keep it from destroying the realm of the Frost Giants. Now that you've met Thor and Loki, I'm sure you can appreciate all the time I just had to hold back a comment when you would say something like "He's low key sus."
