When rewatching season 1 this is one of the episodes that just makes me really sad. Like it was the first time I actually felt bad for Damon. He trusted Stefan and Elena, which he never trusts anyone, and they basically betrayed him like it meant nothing. It’s not as if he’s been trying to free Katherine from the tomb for 150 years

you misunderstand the vampire's abilities on here. they are fast but clearly not as fast as you think. also they don't have unlimited stamina. when Stefan tried out for the football team he clearly got tired from all the exorcise he was doing in the tryouts. so thats one benefit of riding a horse. another thing is that there super speed is more of a sprint. they can't maintain that speed indefinitely. if they could than all of there fights would look like how the flash fights
