The reasons why today’s Anime games don’t have English voices because Bandai dropped out the R1 anime distribution industry years ago, which is where they pulled in most of their voices for the video games division. Overly critical, Game was and is awesome. I still play it to this day. I own all of the SAO games except for infinity moment and enjoyed all of them. Lost Song being the least. As for the “Dating Sim” as you call it there are good reasons to level up your intimacy between everyone mainly to have the ability to give your party mates better weapons and gear. I know a bunch of people that enjoyed and enjoy this game that don’t even watch the anime. If you do watch and enjoy the anime you’ll more than likely enjoy this game if not love it.

What would have been better, is if they made Kirito a separate character and your custom character, a silent person that joins up with Kirito. Kirito takes the backseat in this story as your character takes point. Or even, Kirito takes point, but constantly asks for advice from you, creating sort of a leader-tactician relationship.

The reason why they “cut corners” for the visual is because they also made this game for the much less powerful PS Vita. Multiplayform games released on Vita tend to not look great even on PS4 and PC (not counting mods) I have Gal*Gun Double peace on both PS4 and Vita, and while the PS4 version runs way better, it still look disgurting for a PS4 game.

You should have also mentioned the shoddy shop system: You can preview what an item's effect are on the main character (Kirito) but there's no way to do the same for other characters (if you want to buy equipment for them). I have the PS4 version and I'm glad I only spent 15 bucks on it in the current PSN sale. SAO: Hollow Fragment seems to be so much better from what I've seen so far (only got past the first mission), I guess I'll play that one, even though Hollow Realization has better graphics. I also have SAO: Lost Song but I haven't played it much yet (the flight mechanics seemed cool though, AFAIR). If you like the SAO theme, also have a look at the .hack series, which brought up this idea much earlier. I have .hack//G.U. on the PS4 and played a good deal through it, and even though the MMORPG's locations are often terribly boring (using the same kind of level design over and over), the game is more interesting in that when you log out, you get to some kind of computer desktop where you can send e-mail, watch news, and so on, so you have an offline existence there too. :)

I'm debating on getting a refund for this game. On one hand I bought it during the sale so it was only 20 dollars instead of 50 dollars, and I am looking for a more or less mindless smack 'em up (plus I can use a greatsword). I got this game in hopes to tide over my MMO itch because, while I can afford 15 bucks a month for FFXIV, I'm not sure I actually have time for an mmo atm due to my job not exactly having consistent scheduling. I heard good things about this game, but one thing I wasn't expecting, which was one of the first things you mentioned, is the fact that you might be your own original character in terms of making the actual character.. but in terms of plot, Kirito has consumed your soul and will forever be the mc in your heart, whether you like it or not, which is a massive turn off for me because it's horribly immersion breaking. I would have honestly preferred it if I was on my own adventure and then suddenly Kirito happened to steal the limelight. It bugs me because this is so close to what I wanted that it physically hurts me. I am wondering how prevalent you being Kirito and not your own character is. I did turn off kirito's voice actor, so that's step one covered at least. Just need to know how... relevant it is that you are indeed Kirito and not some random person, especially in the later dlc stuff. Edit: I refunded the game. Was also wrong about the sizes. The height difference isn't that different one to one. It's probably around 1 inch or less per slide over, so if you're small you still won't actually be that short. Same with tall.

That's a fair point actually. I just kept the default settings because I feared that what you mentioned about the main plot might be the case, so I was able to overlook this flaw. But it makes you wonder why they even build in a character creator, if they don't utilize it they might as well just leave it out and not raise false expectations. Thankfully Fatal bullet has fixed the issue.

Dude you totally glossed over the main antagonist. A good chunk of the story revolved around Genesis and everyone's view of him. And he's one of the most interesting antagonists in SAO to date. That alone is worth bumping up the story grade up to at least 3 stars.

Note the games start with Hollow Fragment which is a story where the characters have to play through the last 25 floors of aincrad. This is to say the games aren't a sequel to the anime, but rather their own story. The sao games in order of story go Hollow Fragment, then Lost Song, then Hollow Realization, then Fatal Bullet. Another game is coming out in May titled Alicization Lycoris and it appears to also be in the game timeline. There are 2 other games but, Infinity Moments' story is told in Hollow Fragment and Accel World vs Sword Art Online isn't cannon. So for story purposes you don't need to play them, I hope this answers your question.

I honestly disagree with this review. It just felt so bare bones. Not much details on switches, ssc chaining, skill tree, multiple different weapons, buffs, gear, level design, enemy variety, so on. The game does have online coop you can roam the map with friends, collect boxes, kill all the enemies, and still face off bosses/ mini bosses. Dlc provides pvp online. This is not just a singleplayer game. You can play the solo, take or take 3 ai companions with you( thr main cast and random npc) Actual issues the game has: sometimes they won't indicate where you need to go next, online guide, dlc has a huge difficulty spike, online has some people using modded weapons. You defeat monsters for materials. Upgrade weapons and clothes. If you like sao this game for you. If you're into games like: Monster hunter, Toukiden, God eater, freedom wars, dauntless, ect this game plays very similar combat wise. KZbinr that will actually show you what this game has to offer is KuykeyKoy.

Considering that in about 2 weeks a new SAO game (based on alicization) releases, maybe you shouldn't. Though I have of course no idea how good or bad that new game might be. Hollow realization wasn't that great of a game, but it was the best SAO game out there when I made my review.If that is no longer the case with the new one then it has nothing really going for it.

Well, I can see the problems you have with this game, but I just will say this, who the heck plays/watches Sao cuz of story? Sure it got better recently cuz of alicization, but in all honesty, this is a game about people playing a game, so, the story should be about that, and while boring, that is what it is. And as for gameplay, bosses are really only hp sponges of you don't understand the really in depth battle mechanics, you can be lvl 50 against a level 45, and it could take longer than a lvl 10 against a lvl 60 that knows how it all works, this game is great because of the ability to skip levels when skill is high enough, heck, my first playthrough, I could not beat the boss on normal difficulty, at lvl 20, multiplayer ups difficulty, I am guessing base is easy, but I just beat a lvl 100 something version of it on nightmare mode in like 10 minutes, yes that is long, but that is faster than I beat it normally the first time. Oh boy I wrote a lot, I guess it comes down to, I love the battle mechanics, and that is what let's me ignore everything else, the game is fun without the useless story, hence why I skip all dialogue scenes, well, that and I have read them already... Edit: Forgot to put in I was lvl 13 when I fought it, and if that means you think the game is bad, then you have never experienced how awesome it is to fell things you technically shouldn't be able to

The game was a bullshit cash grab. They put barely any effort into the voice acting, story or adding basic visual tracking. How the fck do you play when you have to move your hand to reangle the camera

So because she's an AI, she is even younger? That's just stupid. Also ironically games like WoW do have super lame boring ass fetch quests no sane person should be interested in. Yet... still people play. Oh and WoW couldn't be more casual in terms of difficulty. It's a lame experience. The 'most fun' you'll get out of WoW is the playing with friends, literally nothing else.

just tried this game and is it just me that think the one who ported this over for pc is insane?? keyboard n mouse and to use all the keys+mouse at the same time is crazy. example at start w gigant bull. o+w+a+s+d+n+u+x+5 and ontop of this use the mouse at the same time! Have i missed some setting or what(was told this was a good game for keyboard n mouse n i cant see how anybody really thinks this after the 1st few minutes of the game???

After you finish the main story you can keep playing, also there is still the 3 former dlc chapters as post game content. After you finish those there is also an infinite dungeon in witch you can just keep grinding away. However as far as I can tell there is nothing resembling a NG+ , so starting a new file is kinda pointless.
