Featuring amateur archaeologist, enthusiast and multi-award winning investigative filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici, The Naked Archaeologist is an irreverent, entertaining and eye-opening journey into the fascinating archaeology of the ancient world. Along the way, new discoveries are made, lost treasures revealed, and ancient mysteries uncovered.
King Solomon has been the source of great debate in recent years: Was he, or wasn't he, a real historical figure? Taking clues from the Bible, the Naked Archaeologist attempts to separate fact from fiction and figure out what legacy King Solomon left behind.

The Queen of Sheba tomb has been found in Yemen and amazingly what was found in her tomb matches what she gave Solomon as gifts as described in the Bible. Really amazing. The stuff in her tomb matches what the Bible says she gave to Solomon.

@@TheStellarmanCo. The Bible says Solomon built 3 cities and improved the walls of Jerusalem. Those 3 cities have the 'same' city gates and Jerusalem's is bigger but similar. These 3 cities gates are called the Solomon's gates. The Bible also says Solomon built the walls in a special style using lumber between the layers of rock - these are found in the 3 cities. There is no doubt that King Hezekiah of the house of David existed -- we have his bulla seal and the water tunnel that the Bible says he built. So we have direct archaeological for King David, we have direct evidence for the Queen of Sheba, we have the Solomonic city gates, and we have King Hezekiah tracing his lineage through David and Solomon. At least to me that is conclusive that Solomon actually existed.

The cities where the Bible says Solomon, have Solomonic gates including the one in Jerusalem also they have a unique architecture where the walls were build with layers of timber just as the Bible describes. This was a technique that was only used during Solomon's time. I think this is pretty convincing evidence that Solomon actually existed.

That archaeologist said about the building technique that in 10th BCE they don't used that. Did she mean in Israel or all region? What about egypt? I mean Salomo was Pharaoh's son in law, what if he had the knowledge of the technique from egypt? Or from other nations that he had diplomacy with?

If you paid attention when they started you heard her say she knows that area and what was happening there in the times in question, so yes, it was "they didn't do this here at that timeframe." So yes, it might have been in use elsewhere, but it wasn't used in the region the show is filming in, and so the rock is from a different timeframe or a different place. Since the rock appears (at least outwardly without scientific testing) to be from the area, it remains that the technique has to be from another timeframe.

Christ said, “Truly I tell you, not a single stone will be standing upon another.” So the temple could not possibly have stood where the Dome on the Rock stands. It’s too far from the Gehon Springs. Those old Jews had to wash themselves seven times before they could enter the temple.

That is correct, however, the Al Aqsa Mosque does stand in the courtyard of the Outer Court which was the court of the Gentiles. The Inner Court is where the Holy of Holies is located and where the 3rd Temple will be restored. This discovery has been made recently and is in the final stages of being proven. Too many people have been mistaking the Temple of Solomon was the one destroyed but really is the Temple of Zurrubabel and Nehemiah. This would be the one that was rebuilt when the Hebrews returned from Persia through king Darius. This temple would have been the one that was destroyed in the time after Jesus was resurrected and torn down in 70 AD.

If Solomon used mud brick, then thats why it was easy to be destroyed..easier than stone..so when they rebuilt the gates that Solomon had fortified..they used the techniques of the time it was rebuilt on the same place that had been fortified earlier..it is in no way compelling to rule out Solomon and by no means conclusive to say the Jews changed the story She talks about the Chicago people having a bias..well dang..she sure as hell has a big glaring one

The mud bricks actually make sense to me. What happened when bricks became a common building material in England? Country houses, palaces, all built in brick and showing off different styles of laying, patterns, brick and stone types, then filled with glitz and glam of fashion and fame. Today we see these buildings and marvel at the glitter and finery, often glossing over the fact that the buildings are made with bricks.

If you're referring to Shalmenasar III (Assyrian), yes he was real. Shalmenasar III lived at the time King Solomon was supposed to be alive and was considered a wise and honorable king. BTW the term "sar" is an ancient word meaning king. Hence, we have king Shalmen or king Solomon. We see the term sar in many different cultures (e.g. Ausar [Egyptian Osiris], Caesar [Latin, Roman], and Kaisar [German]).

Alex Holub, Actually, you're way off. Shalmaneser is a combination of the Assyrian words, _Salmānu-ašarēd._ Salmānu, is an Assyrian deity, but also means, "the friendly one," and ašarēd, is "the foremost;" so, "Salmānu is the closest, or the best, or most important." _Sar_ isn't even a title, and has nothing to do with Caesar. But Caesar, on the other hand, is the actual inspiration for Kaiser, and Czar.

NO!!! The first baby between David and Bathsheba, was NOT Solomon. Bathsheba was the wife of a soldier, dedicated to David. So in order for David to have Bathsheba legitimately, her husband had to either divorce her, or die... So David put the man on the front lines of battle, between the enemy and his troops, where in time, he was killed! Then, he took Bathsheba as his wife. But the child they had first, before Solomon, "DIED!" The baby died shortly after birth... It is apparent, that the Ethiopian stories, are in no way connected to the Tanach, "Old Testament." And NO ONE in Israel, from a king down, would have ever let the Ark of the Covenant, just walk away! The Ark was the central reason the Temple was constructed. The Temple was the home, the resting place FOR THE ARK! In addition... Solomon erected 2 stone columns, one on each side of the "Yom Suf," known as the "Red Sea," or "Sea of Reeds," on the Eastern side of the Sinai peninsula. The columns were set up, as a memorial, to the crossing of the Red Sea, by Israel, as they fled Egypt, and entered Median, which is now the Median Oilfields, in Saudi Arabia. These columns bear several words, in Hebrew, which bears the Name of Solomon! The issue with depending on archeology, to verify the Bible, is the influx of those, who are there solely to "disprove," Israeli history, "by any means necessary." Like the woman, saying that Solomon built with mud brick!, Instead of using what is most commonly known as "Jerusalem Stone," the common limestone found all over the land, especially in the Jerusalem area. "Mud brick was what was being produced in Egypt, at the time of Moses! Surely Israel would not have used such a material, which would have become a symbol of Egyptian slavery, to construct not only their own homes, but the Temple, the "Home of God!" Okay, maybe after a couple hundred years, such ideology would have died down, with several generations. And maybe common structures, like stables, for livestock may have been built from mud brick. Maybe some homes of the poor, may have been mud brick. But in a land full of stone, inportant buildings, like the Temple, the palace of the Kings, and other structures, would have been stone. But then, if anything was constructed of mud brick, there would really be no way to attach Solomon to it, unless someone found a royal seal in the brick, with Solomon's name in it. But then... Wouldn't that be proof that Solomon was real!?

12:25 - “They came here with pre-conceived ideas.” says the snooty archaeologist. As if archaeologists don’t do that ALL OF THE TIME! I’ve never heard of an accredited archaeologist deciding where to dig for something by donning a blindfold and putting a pin on a map. This isn’t an experiment which requires a double-blind protocol for Pete’s sake. Where were they SUPPOSED to dig for evidence of Solomon, Arizona? 🤦‍♂️

I'm pretty sure the Temple Mount was built on top of Solomon's temple. It's quite typical for the "victor's" after a battle to do. Especially Islam, as if it does not pertain to Islam, any type of building is subject to be ruined, destroyed, or built on top of in an attempt to erase its historical significance. Sure wouldn't be the first time.

How I hate being crazy (head injury years ago), but, piecing together stuff isn't easy for me xxx What i did think was that with the big romance in amongst 1000 wives, there is such a love divine that there is a chance that messengers traveled to and fro, and as there was a sweep of The Word traveling swiftly through continents, then many ideas traveled, too xxx Guess that's the thing about knowing archaelogical stuff xxx One can piece stuff together xxx anyways, all very interesting xxx I read a story once and I hope I have it all in good strength: years ago a ship wrecked off the coast of southern Africa and there was one survivor - a little Baby called Beth xxx She was cared for and raised by a tribe xxx And that's what I remember from the book I read xxx There was also an illustration in the book showing the architecture of the Tribe xxx And the artist's impression of Beth taken from his talking to the Tribe xxx The artist was a Missionary xxx It's a very interesting story and thus far, I haven't been able to brush up my memory by finding the story on the internet xxx

He has tremendous understanding of the laws of physics that he created symphonies which you still use and take pride in his genuine work. He was on the same personal heights where humans with self control take initiatives and remain unhinged on. Reading the Bible I’ve noted an important part. Able is blessed by God, the second son. Abraham fathers Ishmael, but Gods Blessing goes to Isaac, the second son. Then Isaac has two sons, the youngest gets Gods blessing and becomes Israel. Israel’s forth son is Judah, and the next to the youngest saves the children of Israel by making a place for them in Egypt to become a nation. Moses the younger son leads the Israelites to freedom. Many of the judges were younger sons called on to lead in times of trouble. Then comes David, the youngest son of Jessie. David becomes king, but the elder sons of David go bad. Solomon the younger son becomes king. After that we don’t get stories of younger sons being important. We enter the age of the prophets and their place in the family is ignored. Just reading the Bible we get a story of a younger king justifying his position as king even though youngest, that ceases to be important after his death. Was there a Solomon? Yes and through him the Bible as we know it started to be written down. Not just the story of Gods interaction with mankind but also a political statement on the legitimacy of Solomon’s kingship.

If it still matters, I've raised two daughters and the first had the poorest example of parenting given to draw from and while she's doing well and incorporating her difficulties into successful ways forward, my second daughter has a deeper and more comforting acceptance of her being and could be termed "better adjusted". Edit: Even with God close at hand, we seem to mess up and do get better with experience. The foundations of our children are most enduring.

Jerusalem and the city of david. To say that Palestinian Jerusalem, sacred to Jews, Christians and Moslems alike, is not really the place most people think it is,seems an impudent assertion, bound to inflame the hearts of all true believers of theses three great religions. I do not deny, of course, that the city of Jerusalem as the world knows it deserves its reputation as the Holy City, I do suggest, however, that there was another Jerusalem in West Arabia, whose existance predates that of the one in Palestine , and that the history of ' Jerusalem' rightly begins there. The Hebrew Bible tells us that the Kingdom of 'all Israel' in the days of King Solomon stretched 'from Dan event to Beersheba' ( Kings 4:25). It has commonly been assumed that Beersheba is actually the present town of Bir Sab' in southern Palestine, while Dan has been identified as having been on the same site as the ruins of Tall al Qadi, near the headwaters of the Jordan river, mainly on the grounds that the word qadi in Arabic means 'judge' (Hebrew dn). However, as I have already demonstrated in chapter 4, Beersheba is more likely to have been on the same site as the present village of Shaba'ah in the highlands of Asir, near the town of Khamis Mushait. As for the Biblical Dan, this probably survives in West Arabia by name as the village of Danadinah (Arabic plural of dn), in the Zahran lowlands, south of Wadi Adam, as I will demonstrate further in chapter 10 and 14. Solomans capital, Jerusalem, must have been situated somewhere between these two settlements, more likely at what is today an obscure village called Al Sharim ('l srym), near the town of Nimas, along the crest of the West Arabian Sarat. Alternatively, it could have been several kilometres further south in the vicinity of Tanumah. 'Jerusalem' may survive there in the name of the village of Arwa ('rw), identified in relationship to the neighbouring village of Al Salam (slm), which would yield the compound name Arwa-Salam ('rw slm;cf. the Biblical yrwslym, for Jerusalem). After the death of Solomon, his kingdom of 'All Israel' was divided among his descendants, who continued to reign in Al Sharim as kings of 'Judah'; another succession of rulers evidently called themselves kings of 'Israel'. Eventually the latter established their capital in Samaria (Biblical Shomeron, or smrwn), which I have identified as the village of Shimran (smrn), in the lowlands of the Qunfudhah region, downhill from the Sarat. from their capital ,the kings of Israel controlled a territory which dovetailed into the northern parts of the territory of 'Judah',as far as the region of Taif. For the time being, however, my main concern is Jerusalem; the more complicated question of the placement of 'Judah' and 'Israel' will be dealt with in the following chapter. the hebrew Bible tells us that David captured Jerusalem and the 'stronghold' of Zion from the Jebusites, moving his capital there from Hebron during the eighth year of his reign as king over Judah (2 Samuel 5:5-10). Of the five Hebrons (hbrwn) which survive by Khirban (hrbn by metthesis) on the maritime slopes of Asir, I would suggest that David's first capital was most probably the Khirban of the \majarida region, which had once been the Hebron of Abram,or Abraham ( see chapter 13). Certainly, David's Hebron could hardly have been in Palestine, where no such place appears to exist. True, Jews and Christians have traditionally located Biblical Hebron in the town of al Khalil, in the hill country south of Palestine jerusalem. Moreover, because the place is associated with the career of Abraham, who is described in the Koran (4: 125) as the friend( Arabic hlyl, vocalised halil.or Khalil ) of God, Moslems have also accepted the Jewish and Christian identification of al Khalil with Abraham's Hebron. Nevertheless, it is unlikely that the place-name, al Khalil, means 'friend' at all. Probably, it is an Arabicised form of an earlier Semitic place-name, hlyl ( from hll in Hebrew, 'hollow out',cf. Arabic hll, 'pierce, get inside') meaning 'cave'. This being so, thePalestinian town must surely have derived its name from a well known cave in the visinity ( mentioned by Arab geographers), which was cosecrated by later tradition as the tomb-shrine of Abraham. In Asir, however, we find further corroboration that the Khirban of the Majarida region, in the Qunfudhah hinterland, was the first capital of David, because we find there several place-names which are associated with it. These are Gibeon (gb'wn), today Al Jib'an (gb'n) and Helkath-hazzurim (hlqt h-srym, today Al Halq (hlq) and al Siram (srm), all of which lie in the same general are (see Samuel 2:16)All these identifications neatly support my belief that Jerusalem must have been Al Sharim, which is located some distance from Khirban, uphill to the east, in the heights of Nimas, just across the Asir escarpment. As for the Jebusites (h-ybwsy, genitive of ybws), who originally held the town, they are likely to have been one of the many tribes of folk who inhabited West Arabia in antiquity (see chapter 15) Three places there, among others, continue clearly to carry their name: the village of Yabasah (ybsh), in Wadi Adam, the valley of Wadi Yabs (ybs) or Yubays (ybys), on the maritime side of the Ghamid region; and the village of Yabs (ybs), in the Qunfudhah region. From the book by Kamal Salibi" The Bible came from Arabia"

The theory that all the wives were diplomatic deals sounds bogus. Currently there are about 195 nations in the World...a World far far far larger is scope than what was known to have existed at the time of Solomon. At the time there must have been no more than 50 nations and small tribes who could have had contact with ancient Israel, and it is highly doubtful that all of them would have sent women to marry Solomon. After all, Ancient Egypt and the Hittite kingdoms were the big powerhouses at the time and neither of them had anywhere near the number of wives married to their leaders.
