I've been screaming about this missing Kiss album for years and years. If you consider what's said in Pauls book about this 1985 timeframe of Kiss it was not a happy time. With Ace's departure and the difficulties finding a solid replacement has to be considered. It was a time when Kiss really didn't want to look back visually and musically the albums since Alive 2 could incorporate a lot of Ace's material as he had a bigger segment in the Unmasked tour. Paul & Gene were both in looking forward mode and the legal issues with material from the Peter, Ace and Vinnie era would have been very difficult to deal with. The Kiss no makeup era is in essence the great second coming of Kiss, amazing songs and Paul's voice at it's career height. Considering the excellent KISS - Off The Soundboard: Live At Donington 1996 Live CD it's hopefully shining a light on how Mr Moneybags Simmons will approach the missing real 1995 Alive 3 Album. Kiss Live At Donington 1996 is exactly how a live album should sound. I'm sure there have been lots of tricks to make it sound amazing. The best aspect to this album is the way Ace plays the songs, it's so incredibly different to what Tommy plays. Ace's live playing is the jem in this live album. It ranks very high on my fav Kiss albums and I'm a very hard marker

For me as a kid, this may as well have been Alive III. I first got into KISS with Lick It Up. My friend recorded this concert off of MTV, and we watched it religiously. When it came out on home video, I saved up the $30 for it for months ($30 was a lot back then, especially for a 13 year old). I watched it so many times, I still remember every note on it today. I’ve owned this on Betamax, VHS, Laserdisc and DVD. I’ve got so many great memories of it.

Here is what would be MY ideal set list for Alive lll if it came out around this time. I’m using songs from Animalize Live Uncensored as well as songs that were performed on the Creatures and Lick It Up tour.. also on Alive ll it included Tomorrow And Tonight, a song they never played on that tour but it was recorded for the record. I will follow that formula and also pick a song not performed but recorded for the album.. Side 1: Creatures Of The Night Fits Like A Glove Heaven’s On Fire Thrills In The Night Side 2: All Hell’s Breaking Loose Under The Gun Young And Wasted Burn Bitch Burn Side 3: I Love It Loud I Still Love You War Machine Lick It Up Side 4: Detroit Rock City Cold Gin Love Gun Black Diamond Rock And Roll All Nite

I loved the Animalize tour. The band had so much energy and the two shows I saw were great. I was thrilled to finally see them on MTV and I remember taping it on the new family VCR - wearing that tape out...and then bought the video when they released it - and preceded to wear tape out. I would have loved an Alive III record because the versions of those songs - while a tad fast - are really really good. In fact, when I play in my bands - and we play Rock n Roll Alnite - of course - I sing it just like Gene sings it on Animalize Live and Uncensored.

As far as I remember the only grumblings I remember hearing about Alive III were possibly the Crazy Nights era, the 1988 Budokan show was professional filmed and recorded. Hot in the Shade would have been perfect except for the fact by then they had dropped a lot of their 80s songs from the set.

There is one interesting thing…KISS had started doing The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” as an encore around this time. They may have added this to the Double Album version, instead of repeating anything from the first two Alive albums. (Alive II was three sides live because they didn’t want to repeat anything from the first Alive! set on the second one.)
@johnpinna24 Жыл бұрын
I thought they started doing "Won't Get Fooled Again" during the Asylum tour.... I saw them on the last show on the Animalize Tour (March 29, 1985, East Rutherford) - and I believe Paul started playing Stairway to Heaven - place was going nuts. He played all the way up to the first vocal line and...stopped - then went into Black Diamond.

you have to remember as well there are albums that arent even mentioned that live material could have been used...dynasty, unmasked, the elder...even killers could have been used so there was more material perforned live that could have been added to alive 3. we are celebrating kiss not necessarily the members of the band, past or current in 1985. bruce and eric could have performed those songs as well to capture the 'live' aspect as they did with kiss alive 2. hard luck woman, tomorrow and tonight, were given live feels...and there was a whole side of studio material. would have been interesting to see what they could have come up with.

At the time it was a common thing of the music industry to keep concerts exclusive for video back when home video was a brand new format for capitalize sales, despite the recording, postproduction and mastering could easily made for a live album. Many bands did it at the time (REO Speedwagon, Def Leppard, Van Halen, WASP, The Cure, Whitesnake, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, just to name a few) so it made sense that Kiss did it too. It wasn't until the 90s that became standarized that official live concerts meant to be released on both video and audio.

All Night Get rid of Asylum and tour for Alive III like they did for Alive II. Not saying that I hate Asylum. It's actually grown to be my second favorite non-era KISS album (Revenge) but by the time Asylum was released, they were barely featuring an album's new songs in their live set. Or, they could've done something completely different and had album one be KISS Alive III, without the two classics, and album two be Asylum. Label mates The Village People released a set like that called "Live and Sleazy". It failed miserably but the world was already sick of them by 1980.

Some really hot metal Kiss stuff in the early-mid 80's, really melodic and rocking. Peter Criss in his official autobiography, says Mark St John was into kiddie porn. Paul Stanley in his autobiography says Bill Aucoin was into underage boys. The core members are clean, but they have been very blind eye turning, not wanting to rock the money boat.

It would have made sense to release it in 1985. I was expecting to see it come out a little sooner, like around 1979 or 80, since there were a two year period between the release of Alive 1 and 2. So I a would assume the The real Alive 3 1993 , would have been Alive 4. Lol
@mikedegarmo32032 жыл бұрын
Well, I think if Paul and Gene were following tradition and Alive III was strictly "newer" material, then that's 5 tracks needed to replace the "classics". However, stylistically KISS had evolved tremendously from 1978 to 1985, so I don't think it would have been out of place to include some classics. That said, I personally what want "I've Had Enough (Into The Fire)" and some of Paul's "Lick it Up" material that was previously played live like "Exciter", and "Gimme More" included.
@samuraidarryl Жыл бұрын
The issue I see is that any set list around the Animalise release will be poor and disrespectful to Alive and Alive 2. In other words it would not be worthy and would not stack up. The up tempo of the shows ruined the classics that were played imo. I feel that when Alive 3 was eventually released it was at a time when the gross 80s KISS was gone and the band was the tightest it had been for ages. Why? Because Gene had his head back in the band. So the timing was right and the new material was back to hard roots style music of KISS. That’s my take and I can say that I find it hard to watch Animalise Live Uncensored. Always have and have stayed away from it for some 20 years. An Alive 3 at the time wasn’t mandatory and the music and the band were not worthy and thankfully someone put a stop to it.

Firstly Kiss wasn't selling out arena's in 1985... the creature's tour a few years earlier was a bust folling 2000 seats in a 10,000 seat venue in America anyways. With typical formula of not putting songs on the album featured on previous live kiss albums it would have been a pretty weak track list. Crazy Nights was a better selling album than what kiss had put out in the 80s so they made the right choice..
@russell_szabados Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was a KISS fanatic from '76-79, but I kept my eye on them all through the 80's while following other bands I liked much more. They were not "selling out" arenas on the Animalize tour, but it was much better than the Creatures era.

Kiss alive 2 craps on Alive, Funny how the both not actual live recordings
@waltzguy14151 Жыл бұрын
Let's save a lot of people a lot of money, shall we? The truth is, there are only 4 Kiss albums you need in your collection (if any) - Alive (which isn't live), Alive II (which isn't live either but has a glorious side IV.. which is mostly Bob Kulick and Anton Fig - gloriously produced by Eddie Kramer) and Ace's solo album and Revenge. The rest of their output is garbage. Let's get real. Everything after Alive is even worse crap than the first 3 albums that preceded it, which are about as crap as the 3 albums that followed it. Destroyer? Overbloated with compression. RnRO? Underbloated and thin sounding. Love Gun? Overbloated again. Double Platinum? Crap. Dynasty? Absolute crap. Unmasked was a parody of a parody that wasn't even Kiss since Anton was playing drums and Ace was absent for the most part. The Elder was the worst thing they could've done. Then they had Creatures which no one is ultimately sure who played what.. but Ace's face was on the cover and he definitely didn't play one note.. but still made the video to I Love It Loud (which is a good rocker for Kiss). Talk about feeling ripped off. Eric Carr gave the band a much needed boost in the rhythm section.. but then they released Elder.. so he boosted some horrible garbage. What do you expect when your producer is a total coke fiend? Then Vinnie came to the band and to me, that was the best band Kiss ever was musically specifically when they played their old material (check out Dr Love live In Rio - Vinnie's solo is ridiculously awesome). But everything on Lick It Up is generic 80's pop hair metal crap. Animalize is even worse. Hot In The Shade and Crazy Nights are more crap pop metal. Revenge was a good step forward.. But in '96, we got to hear the best version of the original line up.. because Peter and Ace weren't completely trashed, so they actually rehearsed and played their best. Then the jackasses that are Stanley and Simmons decided to pay Ace less and then Peter even less than Ace. So we can all appreciate the nostalgia, the fun this band was.. and all the money we spent on Kiss lunchboxes and Kiss posters and Kiss gum and Kiss trading cards and it was worth it because of the excitement we felt when we were kids. KIDS. As adults we have to recognize how stunningly dishonest this band was in their marketing, in their recordings and stop promoting the hype that this band ever got anywhere because of their music. How infinitely petty Simmons and Stanley were. It was the mystique and the crazy stage shows.. and the crazy marketing. Now they're a cover band covering themselves. One can be real and still fondly remember those days when we were kids and didn't know better. We know better now, don't we? Just mho.
