In today's game, Williams could've done pretty well. He could fit in seamlessly as a starting 4, and develop into a multi-position defender. Interesting point about him leaving too early, let him start after May left and have him develop his post moves and ball handling. But at the end of the day, it's always going to be about who the Hawks didn't pick, when they had a huge gaping hole at point guard and Paul and Deron Williams were available. Since the Hawks drafted 4 or 5 forwards in a row, they had no reason to pick him and put him in a logjam. If you want to meme Matt Millen for drafting wide receivers, you can meme Billy Knight for drafting forwards.
@RandyBaker872 жыл бұрын

Marvin Williams was a good role player, but not worthy of being a top 3 ever. His draft stock was overblown in lieu of his college season from UNC, much like JJ Redick a year later. Solid career, but he was a bust. I feel like I’m most situations, top 3 guys are eventually supposed to be best players on the team eventually. I say most because there are situations like Wiseman with the Warriors where they’re never gonna be that because you have all-time grays in their primes on the team. There’s an alternate universe where the Hawks took Cp3 and let him conduct that team, playing off of Joe’s iso’s, letting Childress and Joe run off screens, PnR with Jsmoove and Harrington, all the while playing all-defensive team-level defense….. it could’ve been beautiful. (Also that next they picked Sheldon Williams[at least he got to marry Candace Parker]. Passing up on Brandon Roy, Rondo, and Kyle Lowry)
